Related Club Policies

1. The Committee has agreed a Privacy Notice and Data Regulation Policy in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018 which is available on the Club Web-site or on request. If any member has any concerns about the way personal data is processed, please contact the Club Secretary. Membership information held by the Club will not be passed on to any 3rd parties.

2. The Club’s Child Protection Policy is available on the WDAC web-site. A copy can also be provided on request from the Club’s Secretary. The Welfare Officer (see details on page 3) has responsibility for responding to any allegations, concerns or child protection incidents, passing information to the appropriate National Governing Body Lead Child Protection Officer and informing the appropriate Club Committee members in respect of matters under its control.

Constitution

1. Name and Headquarters – The Club is called Wimborne and District Angling Club (WDAC) and its headquarters shall be the Royal British Legion, Corfe Mullen, or any other place as may be decided by the Committee.

2. Aim – The aim of the Club is to obtain waters for its members to fish and to promote the interests of freshwater angling generally.

3. Membership.

a. Membership shall be open to all persons.

b. The number of members to be reviewed from time to time by the Committee and adjusted as they think fit.

c. Membership is non-transferable.

d. Minor members (being under 16) will pay a reduced subscription rate and must be accompanied by an adult member or adult non-fishing associate member when visiting Club waters. Minor members will be issued with a membership book and a complementary adult associate membership.

e. Junior members (being 16 years and over, but under 18 years) will pay a reduced subscription rate and may visit/use most of the Club waters unaccompanied.

f. For the purposes of concessionary subscriptions an Old Age Pensioner is defined as a person over the age of 65 years. A Disabled Person shall normally be expected to meet the definition in the Equality Act 2010 of having a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term effect on health. [For practical purposes a ‘blue-badge’ holder will be regarded as meeting these criteria. In other cases appropriate evidence shall be submitted, if required, to the Club’s Committee in relation to such applications for membership].

g. Associate non-fishing membership is available to relatives of members including junior and minor members, or helpers to the less able wishing to accompany a member whilst they are fishing.

h. Membership without subscription shall be available to the President, Vice-Presidents, all active Members of the Committee and

Club Bailiffs. This benefit shall be awarded twelve months retrospectively so it is for services rendered. Annual free memberships shall similarly be rewarded retrospectively and exceptionally by the Club’s Committee for services rendered to the Club. A list of all free Memberships shall be available for Member inspection upon request to the Membership Secretary.

i. An award of Life Membership will be exceptional and will only be as a result of an item being put forward in writing by the proposer to the Club’s Committee for preliminary consideration and, if supported, thence upon a vote of those attending an Annual General Meeting. The last date annually, therefore for such a proposition will be the last Monday in January.

• That each year in November the annual gift of free membership is tabled as a Committee item. • The list of free memberships shall be available for Member scrutiny upon demand.

4. Condition of Membership.

a. It is a condition of membership that all members aged 12 and above are in possession of a current Environment Agency Licence suitable for the fishing being undertaken. Children under 12 do not need a licence. Licences for children aged between 12 and 16 are free.

b. This rule book is the property of Wimborne and District Angling Club and must be returned to the Secretary upon request or when the member resigns.

c. The Club shall not be dissolved except by a General Meeting convened for that purpose, and then only by a majority vote of not less than two-thirds of those members present.

d. A member enters land, in the control of the Club entirely at his/her own risk and only for the purposes of fishing or maintenance of the fisheries.

e. Members must be responsible for familiarising themselves with the written rules of the Club as set out in the current Rules, Regulations and Fishing Permit book and then complying with same.

f. Any member accompanied by a guest must be responsible for the guest’s behaviour and compliance with Club rules. Any transgression of Club rules by a guest may lead to a sanction against the guest but such 7

transgression will also be considered as a breach of the rules by relevant Members in the context of Discipline (see section 10)

5. Officers and Committee.

a. The Club Management Team shall consist of a Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Secretary, Match Secretary, Game Secretary, Press Officer, Safeguarding Officer, Head Bailiff and a Committee of seven, all of whom shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which shall be held annually during March.

b. All Officers and Committee Members have the power to vote with the exception of the Chairman who can only vote in the event of a tie either at a Committee or at the AGM.

c. The Committee has the power to co-opt members to fill vacancies or for any other special purpose.

d. Any Committee member not attending three consecutive meetings without adequate written reasons will be replaced.

e. Committee meetings are to be held monthly or more frequently if the Committee resolve it is necessary.

f. No Officer or Committee member to hold office in any other freshwater angling clubs.

g. No member of the Club shall be eligible for election to the Committee until he/she has completed two years of membership of the Club.

h. A President or Vice-President shall serve for a term of two years from the date of election and may seek re-election for a further term of office at the appropriate AGM.

i. The Committee may exercise all powers that may be exercised by the Club and do anything that may be done by the Club, except where under these articles or any statute for the time being in force the power must be exercised or the thing to be done by the Club in General meeting.

j. The work of the key officers of the Club shall be explained in Job Descriptions which shall be regularly reviewed (a minimum of once every two years) in concert with the relevant officer, the Chairman and the President of the Club. An officer knowingly refusing to carry out

work in accordance with the job description will be the subject of disciplinary procedure (see section 10)

6. Competitions Committee – From the Club membership, three members to be elected to form a Competitions Committee. They are to carry out all duties regarding Competitions, both Club and Inter-Club. All arrangements to be reported to the Committee.

7. Club Funds and Ticket Prices.

a. The Treasurer shall be responsible for the management of Club funds and shall be the Club’s officer with access to the Club’s banking accounts. All monies due to be paid by the Club shall either be paid by cheque or electronic banking except for small sums which may be paid from petty cash held by the Treasurer. All cheques payable by the Club from its bank account shall be counter signed by two of the following: Chairman, Secretary or Treasurer. No withdrawals other than for petty cash and routine payments for leases or licences of Club waters shall be made by the Club’s Treasurer without the prior approval of the Committee.

b. The Club’s Treasurer will keep an income and expenditure account up-to-date and shall provide a summary position for each meeting of the Club’s Committee and advise on forthcoming committed expenditure.

c. The Club’s financial year end shall coincide with the end of the calendar year and the Treasurer shall be the responsible officer for obtaining an independent audit of the accounts for that year at the earliest reasonable opportunity. Such accounts to be available in due course for any member of the Club upon request.

d. The Committee may review and set subscription rates for all classes of membership and ticket prices when required and shall keep these prices under review.

e. The Game Secretary in consultation with the Committee may exercise all powers with regard to setting the price of trout tickets having regard to the agreed stocking policy.

f. Please see the Club’s website for membership subscription rates and ticket prices or contact the relevant officer. The Club’s outlets, see page 93, also hold up to date price information.

8. Trustees.

a. The property of the Club shall be vested in four trustees appointed by the Committee.

b. The Trustees must deal with the property as the Committee from time to time directs by resolution (of which an entry in the minute book is to be conclusive evidence).

c. The Trustees may be indemnified against risk and expense out of the Club property.

d. The Trustees will hold office until death or resignation or until removal from office by the Committee.

e. Where by reason of death, resignation or removal it is necessary for a new Trustee or Trustees to be appointed, the Committee must nominate the person or persons to be appointed.

f. For the purpose of giving effect to such nomination, the President of the Club is nominated as the person to appoint new Trustees of the Club within the meaning of the Trustees Act 1925, section 36 and he must by deed appoint the person or persons nominated by the Committee.

9. Amendments to Rules.

a. These rules shall not be altered except at a General Meeting, or at a meeting specially convened for that purpose. Such a meeting may be called at any time by the Committee.

b. Any individual members, having a proposition, or a nomination for Officer or Committee to submit to a General Meeting, must supply the Secretary with the same in writing 14 days before the date of the said meeting.

c. Members must attend the meeting in person to support their proposal. The Secretary to notify all members of the time and date of such meeting at least 21 days before the meeting takes place.

d. Should any case arise in which the rules are not considered to be sufficiently binding, the decision of the Committee shall be final.

10. Discipline.

a. The Committee shall discipline any member for conduct which is in their opinion injurious to the interests of the Club, or its objectives, or of its members or angling, but before making any decision about disciplining a member the Committee shall inquire into the conduct of the individual who will be given reasonable opportunity to defend themselves either in writing or by appearance before the Committee. The Committee’s power to discipline, including expulsion shall be on a majority vote of those present at the inquiry.

b. An expelled member shall forfeit all rights and privileges of membership immediately upon expulsion, but shall remain liable for any debts or dues to the Club which become payable or were incurred before the date of expulsion. The expelled member shall forfeit all claims to prizes etc. and any other claim upon the Club.

c. The Committee may, in order to protect fishing rights and/or fish stocks utilise closed circuit TV equipment and in so doing will comply with the Data Protection Act(s) and the ICO CCTV Code of Practice with regard to any recordings obtained.

11. Guest Tickets.

a. The Club allows accompanied guests only. Strictly no unaccompanied guests. The member must purchase the ticket for his/her guest/s. Only the holder of the ticket is allowed on the water. A full member may purchase a guest ticket for a junior/minor angler (under 18 years of age). Junior/minor members cannot purchase guest tickets.

b. For the purposes of this constitution a guest is a Member for the length of time he or she is on property controlled by the Club. It therefore follows that the guest is there at his/her own risk and for the purposes set out in 4(e) of this constitution. It is the responsibility of the member purchasing the guest ticket to make the guest aware of the Club’s constitution, the general rules of fishing and particular rules affecting the venue to be fished.

c. Guest tickets may be purchased from local outlets and on-line, which may be found on the page dealing with membership fees and prices.

d. There is no night fishing for guests.

e. A guest may only attend any Club water on a maximum of three occasions in one calendar year, unless he/she is under the age of 12 years. f. A member may invite and purchase tickets for no more than two guests on any day. g. The Club has exchange arrangements with Blandford Angling Club so that members may fish its waters free of charge. Permits must be collected before fishing from the outlet shown on the page dealing with membership fees and prices. The exchange books can be retained for one day only, and must be returned after use (same day or early next day).

Ensure you read and follow the rules.

General Rules of Fishing

1. No fish are to be taken away from the Club’s waters, unless authorised by the Committee except:

a. Trout from the Club’s catch and take lakes (please see the section on trout fishing)

b. Small fish for live baits are limited to six per angler on any one day and must be used on water from which they were taken. No fish are to be taken and killed/frozen for later use as dead baits.

2. Between the 15th March and 15th June (inclusive) the National coarse fish close season applies to the river stretches. From the 1st April trout fishing is available as is sea trout fishing from the 15 April, but please check the individual details for each water, which varies due to different terms agreed with landowners. When game fishing anglers are strictly limited to fly fishing and spinning with appropriate lures (spinning after the 15th May only to comply with local byelaws). The use of any baits or ground baits is strictly prohibited as is the use of floats including pilot floats during this period. [See also table on page 17]. Grayling are not game fish and are subject to the coarse National close season.

3. Members must carry their membership rule book ‘At All Times’ when on Club land and show same when requested by a Bailiff, Club Official or any Club member. When approaching unknown anglers on Club waters members must request to see their documents and support Bailiffs if requested.

4. Any member wishing to contact the press, either local or national, on matters relating to Club business, Club waters or fish caught on Club waters must do so through the Club Media Officer (please refer to the page on Club Officers and Committee Members).

5. Barbless and micro-barbed hooks only are to be used (except on rivers and trout catch & take waters). Cereal groundbaits may be used on all Club lakes. Keepnets may be used on Club lakes and on river stretches providing they are knotless and at least 2.4m in length. Carp of 4lb and over shall not be held in keepnets, except in matches.

6. All anglers including match anglers to have un-hooking mats available for use when required. Specimen fish are our main asset, please look after them.

7. No litter of any kind is to be left on Club waters and members will be held responsible for any litter in their vicinity at all times. Leaving litter will be regarded as a disciplinary offence warranting dismissal from the Club. Please pick litter up, including any discarded line, whenever you see it. [Apart from keeping our fisheries clean for other users, it may threaten lease renewal].

8. Anglers must close all gates opened by them.

9. Members must not light fires (fires do not include a purpose designed cooking stove but do include throw away barbecues or those fired with charcoal), erect tents (excluding small bankside bivvies’ and umbrellas), bring dogs (except on water where dogs are allowed), play radios, or dig into any bank or meadow for bait. Members must respect owners’ property and conduct themselves in a proper manner to preserve the good name of the Club.

10. No members are allowed to carry firearms or air weapons on Club waters unless authorised by the Committee for a specific purpose.

11. Only 1 rod is allowed when fishing floating bait or fly fishing.

12. Night fishing is available on certain waters and requires the purchase of a night fishing permit. Juniors under the age of 18 must be accompanied when night fishing.

13. To enable the Club to properly manage fish stocks, to avoid hybridisation of pure stock fish and to minimise the transmission of disease, no Member shall transfer fish from any water in the Club’s control to another water, including adjoining lakes in the same complex, or import or export fish from a Club water without first obtaining the agreement of the Club’s Committee and where necessary the appropriate Environment Agency licence.

14. No swimming by members on Club waters.

Specimen Fish

1. Weighing and recording Club Prizes - For the purposes of Club trophies and recording specimen fish, the season shall be deemed to run from the 1 Jan to 31 Dec.

2. Weighing procedure – A specimen claim form is provided within this book. Fish should be unhooked on a mat, weighed on the bank and returned to the water without delay. Evidence of the fish by means of contextual photographs and witnesses will be important if making a claim.

Fishing Etiquette and Guidance

1. Please consider the species and size of fish expected.

2. Always carry a suitable landing net for the expected catch.

3. Make sure your landing net is the first item of tackle set up and the last put away.

4. Carry and use an unhooking mat and take care when handling fish of any size.

5. Spend time to ensure a fish has recovered fully before being released.

6. Ensure your tackle is suited to the conditions and your quarry.

7. Take care when taking photographs of your catch, hold the fish as near to the ground as possible, don’t stand up.

8. Be considerate to other anglers, enjoy your fishing and allow them to enjoy theirs.

9. If you see someone struggling with their fishing they may be new to the sport, offer help and advice.

10. If you are able to help maintain Club waters, contact the Secretary or Game Secretary.

11. Personal property, lost or found – contact the Secretary or Game Secretary.

12. Report incidents such as pollution, fishing out of season and poaching to the EA incident line 0800 807060.

13. Close gates that you open.

14. If you are game fishing and taking trout from one of the Club’s stocked waters please ensure you carry a priest and dispatch fish humanely.

15. Many of our waters are close to residential dwellings. Please be considerate when entering and leaving the fishery. Keep noise and disturbance to a minimum.

About Trout Fishing NB Please check with the Game Section information on the Club’s website, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic has led to different interim rules and advice concerning the use of buildings and signing in at the Club’s lakes.

1. Members are permitted to game fish on any Club water unless otherwise stated. An appropriate and current E.A. rod licence is required and the season dates indicated on that licence (or in the bylaws) must always be observed. 2. In addition to having a current membership, before fishng on the Club’s Lakes at Winterborne Zelston and Rawlsbury it is necessary to purchase a ticket to fish. A ticket purchase may be made either at a local tackle shop (please see list on page 94) or online via the Club’s website. [In this respect a member will need to contact the Game Secretary to obtain a password before making the first purchase].

3. Guest tickets can be purchased for trout fishing on all trout waters. The guest must be accompanied.

4. River Stour – Brown Trout appear naturally in the River Stour notably in shallow gravel runs and weir pools.

5. River Crane, Edmondsham – The River Crane at Edmondsham offers catch and release brown trout fishing to those interested in the challenge of a chalk stream. The River’s course is overgrown in places and wading is a pre-requisite [please take wading staff], but there are areas to target. Please contact the Game Secretary to book a day as the lease limits the occasions on which fishing can take place. Please note you will be fishing in a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Rules on Trout Lakes

1. In addition to Club membership you must have a valid ticket to fish which has been purchased before fishing is commenced.

2. Only fly fishing with single fly, is permitted with a maximum size 8 hook. No tandem or double hooks may be used, and no bait or spinning of any description is allowed.

3. Tickets are not transferrable and may not be used at other than the venue and the member’s name and membership number is to be written on all tickets. Proof of purchase must be available for inspection when fishing either in paper or electronic form [on a mobile phone or other portable device].

4. All guests must be accompanied by a current member.

5. No guest may fish the Club’s waters in total on more than three occasions in any calendar year and for this purpose the Club’s trout waters are also included as part of this total.

6. Ticket holders may not catch another’s fish.

7. Only one rod to be used on the water at a time.

8. No floating device, bubble float, or sight indicator etc is to be added to line or leader except for yarn based indicators (details of which are exhibited at the lake venues)

9. Shooting heads are permitted.

10. All trout from catch and take venues are to be killed except Brown Trout at Winterborne Zelston which are at the discretion of the individual.

11. All Brown trout on the rivers and the trout of whatever species in Viners are to be returned safely and barbless or micro-barbed hooks only are to be used. Preferably please unhook the fish whilst still in the water.

12. Details of all fish caught, including nil returns are to be entered in the returns file in the lodges. (Helpful comments please in the diary). NB during the Coronavirus pandemic all returns are to be made electronically to the Game Secretary [and it is intended that once restrictions are lifted both electronic and paper returns will be made].

13. No gutting of fish at either of the venues is allowed.

14. Leave the fishery and lodge as you would expect to find them.

15. No float tubes.

16. No umbrellas.

Match Fishing – General Rules

1. No competitor shall approach the water before the draw. This does not apply to those ‘pegging’. The draw will commence at least 1hr before the match is due to start. Check list for exact times.

2. Competitors to use 1 rod and hook, to bait same and land his/her own fish. Groundbaiting or loose feeding with a second rod or pole when ledgering is not allowed however, groundbait may be introduced by hand, catapult or throwing stick.

3. No competitor to break water before starting signal except for the wetting of groundbait, plumbing depth or shotting float, or on the direction of the Match Secretary.

4. All fish to be handled carefully and kept alive in a bylaw compliant keepnet (2 keepnets are required on all Club Matches), and carefully returned to the water at the end of the competition.

5. Any competitor leaving his peg must not go to another member’s peg or interfere with another member’s fishing in any way. Any member infringing this rule will be disqualified.

6. Members to remain at their peg to weigh all fish in.

7. All fish count at the weigh in except Game fish and Pike.

8. No wading allowed on still-waters.

9. Club matches are open to all members, except where a team is required to fish the Beaumont Cup and this team will be by selection only.

10. Packhorse Lake to be used as a reserve venue for all matches.

11. No points to be awarded for cancelled matches.

12. All match bookings to be made with the Match Secretary.

13. Booking will not be taken after the Friday evening before the match. In some instances particularly away fixtures, the number of tickets may well be limited, therefore you are advised to book well in advance. 24

14. Sweepstake money will be divided as follows: Winner 50%, Second 30% and third 20%, after section wins have been deducted. If there are 12 or more anglers the match will be divided into at least 2 sections.

15. Any dispute at any Club Competition to be settled by the Competitions Committee, the Match Secretary to report same at the next Committee meeting. Member or members involved have right to appeal to the Club Committee.

16. No more than 60lbs of fish will be held in any keepnet and fish above this limit up to 70lb will not be counted. A competitor found with more than 70lbs of fish in a net will be disqualified.

17. Keepnets will not be placed in the water until directed to do so, this signal is normally 10 minutes before the start of the competition.

When a match has been publicised, the water is closed for the day. However, members may fish a venue listed for a match once the competition has ended and any weighing has been completed. Members may also fish areas outside of the match length provided this has been authorised by the Match Secretary.

Winterborne Zelston Trout Lake

Directions:

• Follow the A31 from Wimborne towards . • Cross the roundabout at junction with the A350. • Pass the long walled estate (Charborough Park) and into the 40mph speed limit. • About half a mile further on, turn right opposite the Botany Bay Inn. • Go down the road to the T junction. • Turn left and then take the first entrance on the right over a small brick bridge. • Follow the track over a railway sleeper bridge into the fishery. • Access is via a locked gate (use Club key).

Facilities:

• On site Portaloo. • On site fisherman’s hut. • Designated disabled jetty.

Fishery Rules:

• Open all year round. • Fishing is one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. • The designated jetty for those with a disability is to be prioritised accordingly and any able-bodied person occupying it must vacate upon request to meet such a need, • This is a catch and take lake, but any brown trout caught by a member may be returned at his or her discertion. • Once a bag limit is reached fishing must stop, unless a further ticket is purchased,

Rawlsbury Trout Lakes

A complex of four trout lakes set in beautiful surroundings between Blandford and Dorchester. The complex offers the additional benefit of catch and release on Viners lake.

Directions:

• At Milborne St. Andrew take the Milton Abbas road. • After about one mile there is a warning sign for tractors; 150 yds past this sign turn left towards Ansty and Hazelbury Bryan. • After four to five miles enter the village of Higher Ansty; about 200 yds past the sign for Higher Ansty there is a sharp left hand bend with a turning to Pleck on the right. • Using the mirror in front of you (this is a dangerous corner) turn right and after 50 yds turn left into Pleck Lane. • Continue along Pleck Lane to the farm. • In the farm yard buildings, there is a door on the right with the sign ‘Fisherman Sign in Here’; enter your vehicle and occupancy details in the book provided. • Go through the farm and down the track to the bottom of the hill. • Park in the field on the left.

Pinnock Lakes

A venue consisting of two shallow lakes situated on the bank of the River Crane close to the village of Edmondsham. Medleys Lake has been recently dredged and stocked and contains a rapidly growing head of young Tench and Crucian Carp. Julia’s is more challenging proposition, but contains a wider variety of species and a small number of mid-double Carp.

• From Wimborne take the B3078 towards Cranborne. • After approximately 9 miles you will pass a turning sign posted to the heavy horse centre; about half a mile past this sign you will come to a crossroads. • Turn right at the crossroads, signposted to Edmondsham. • Follow this road to the T junction and turn right, drive into the village of Edmondsham and follow the road to the left signposted Cripplestyle. • Drive over the hill and follow the road until a small red brick bridge and the entrance to the fishery is on the left. • Take extreme care when entering and exiting the fishery.

A shallow and heavily weeded venue which is best approached with light lines, small hooks and guile. Prolific weed growth during the summer is to be expected, but for those that take the time and effort to clear a patch are often rewarded with the larger Roach and Rudd.

Longham Lake

A large (25 acre) freshwater reservoir established as a coarse fishery close to the outskirt . The fishery offers outstanding Pleasure and Carp fishing with numerous large fish present. The fishery is managed by Water and up to six members may fish on any one day. A ticket must be collected from the on-site bailiff before commencing fishing.

A complex consisting of two coarse lakes situated within the Creekmoor Estate in Poole. The fishery offers excellent pleasure fishing with easy access.

A mature urban coarse fishery situated within the Nuffield Trading Estate. The fishery offers excellent Carp fishing.

An urban coarse fishing lake situated close to the Rossmore estate. Set within a Site of Special Scientific Interest the fishery offers excellent Pleasure and carp fishing with many large fish present.

A stunning commercial fishery set in beautiful rural Dorset at Cosmore, near Dorchester. The complex boasts toilet facilities and a well- stocked tackle shop.

The fishery has a mill pond, a weir, and both shallow and deep runs. This is a peaceful fishery set in beautiful Dorset countryside offering a wide variety of fishing challenges.

• From Wimborne take the B3082 until you reach Blandford. Turn right and follow the signs to Stourpaine. • Continue along this road to a set of traffic lights. This is almost immediately after Water Lane. • Two parking spaces are available at the Mill for members use (see diagram). Members are requested to leave a note on their windscreen identifying them as WDAC member. • Under no circumstances are members to park at the Mill if the identified spaces are occupied. Instead park at the top of the lane.

River Stour - Charlton Marshall Buggs

Set in beautiful Dorset countryside this fishery provides the roving angler with excellent specimen opportunity.

• Take the A350 from Poole towards Blandford. • As you enter Charlton Marshall, take the third right after the Charlton Inn, Gravel Lane.. • Parking is permitted halfway down the lane on the left hand side. Park sensibly to avoid obstructing. • To access the fishery walk to the end of Gravel Lane. Take the footpath to a drive with a house on the right. Cross the drive and go over the style into the field. There is a small bridge and gate about 150yrds from the style. Cross the bridge and enter the field through the gate. Directly across the field is the fishery.

Becketts

Set in superb Dorset countryside, downstream of Buggs, this fishery offers excellent opportunity for the roving specimen angler. Becketts comprises two short sections. The shallow and weedy areas are difficult in the summer, but produce good Chub and Dace all year round. Fishing is possible from the Island when conditions permit, otherwise keep to the bank.

River Stour – Wimborne Netherwood Mead

An excellent specimen stretch situated close to Wimborne, upstream of Julian’s bridge. Netherwood Mead offers fantastic summer fishing, particularly for the large head of resident Chub: also some good Roach present, with Dace, Bream and some specimen Barbel.

Tricketts and Parsons

A fantastic stretch situated close to Wimborne, downstream of Julian’s bridge. Tricketts and Parsons offers a good mixture of fast shallows and slower deeper swims. It can be quite weedy in summer, especially the shallower areas. An excellent stretch where Roach favour the deeper swims in the lower reaches, particularly in the winter. There are good Dace and Chub , Grayling show with Brown Trout being taken on fly when in season.

Directions

Upstream boundary

• As for Netherwood Mead, park in the lay-by close to Julian’s bridge. • Enter the field alongside the lay-by, using the gate.

Downstream boundary

• Leave the lay-by for the upstream boundary and Drive towards Corfe Mullen. • Cross the roundabout at the junction with the A31, taking the exit towards Corfe Mullen. • Take the first left into Willet Road. • Follow this road until you reach the farm gates and park in the small lay-by on your left. The lay-by can accommodate 3 – 4 vehicles. Do not block access to the fields. • Access by walking through the first gate on the left under the by- pass, turn left along the dirt track and access the fishery by turning right at the end of the woods.

Baileys

A fantastic stretch of the River Stour situated on the southern bank downstream of Canford Bridge. Movement along Baileys is relatively easy using the hardened tow path. Large catches of Roach and Dace are commonplace.

Directions

Upstream entrance

• Leave Wimborne on the A349 Poole Road, passing over Canford Bridge. • Park on the roadside in Oakley Lane.

Downstream entrance

• Proceed to the top of Oakley Hill and turn left into Oakley Lane by the Willett Arms public house. • Park in Oakley Lane just before Canford School. • Walk down the drive then left along the gravel track, past the boathouse and enter the fishery through the gate on the right.

Purchase’s and Chissell’s

Another fantastic stretch of the River Stour situated downstream of Canford Bridge on the Northern Bank below the Council recycling centre. This stretch is renowned for large Pike and a good head of Roach and Dace.

Upstream entrance

• From Wimborne town centre take the B3073 towards the Canford Bottom roundabout. • After approx. 1 mile turn right into Brook Road. • Park in Brook Road. • Walk to the end of Brook Road, beyond the Council recycling centre. • Turn left at the River and walk downstream. • Access to the fishery is through the gate just past the flyover bridge.

Downstream entrance

• Park as for Baileys. • Walk down the drive and cross the suspension bridge. • Turn left and walk upstream to access the fishery.

Canford School

Another fantastic stretch of the River Stour situated downstream of Baileys and Purchase’s & Chissel’s. Canford School includes short stretches on both southern and northern banks. The stretch also includes access to the extremely productive weir pool from the northern bank. Barbel, Chub and Bream are all present to specimen size.

Directions

Southern bank

• Park as for Baileys. • Walk down the drive. • Limit is between boathouse and gatehouse.

Northern bank

• Cross the suspension bridge. • Access to the fishery is downstream up to the Christchurch sign and includes the weir pool.

Longham Water Works

WDAC has two permits which are issued to the Club annually by Bournemouth Water. The stretch is situated upstream of Longham Bridge and includes access to the weir pools. The stretch is shared with Ringwood Angling Club. Many Specimen fish are present on this stretch.

Directions

• From Ferndown follow the Ringwood Road towards Longham. • Just past the Bridge House Hotel and immediately before Longham Bridge turn right at the gates to Water works. • Access through the gates is gained using the swipe card. • Park in the main Car Park.

Fishery Rules

• Closed season enforced 15 Mar – 15 Jun. • Swipe card issued from Wessex Angling. Requires a £20 refundable deposit. • Adults only, no juniors. • Fishing from 07:30 until dusk. • No fishing from footbridge or Island. • No wading. • No spinning.
