Intro: = My messenger. Contrary to the belief of some the message of Malachi is not tithing.

1) God’s for his covenant people / :2-5 / Romans 9:13 - Hated = to love less or renounce one choice in favor of another - Response: Malachi 1:2 NASB / Malachi 1:2-5 - “How have you loved us?” - Ex. - Judges 6:6-16; 23, 24 - Jehovah Shalom = harmonious relationship - “I have understood the Word of the Lord. I will draw upon my Covenant Partner and we will appropriate the victory He has promised.” 2 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV/NASB

2) God’s love is stable, but the people’s love for God has cooled. This is seen in their pattern of neglect of God. - Priest/people offering of blemished animals - Malachi 1:6-14 - Approaching God with His best / Hebrews 9:13, 14 / Hebrews 10:14 / New Covenant offering - Hebrews 13:15

4) The people’s disregard for God’s covenant and refusal to walk in agreement with it - Malachi 2:10-16 - Intermarriage with pagan nations; easy divorces some obtain as their wives were getting older are manifestations of un-faithfulness to one’s covenant relationship with God - “When people become unfaithful in their relationship with God, breakdown of relationships with one another will inevitably follow.” -Jack Hayford

5) Perverted word of the people / 5:20, 21 - Where is the God of justice? / Malachi 2:17 NKJV/NASB - Because the people do not see an immediate and dramatic intervention from God in their affairs they begin to doubt His presence (WOW!!!) :1-5

6) God does not change and urges His people to return unto Him - Malachi 3:6, 7 / Lamentations 3:23 v. 22 / Acts 7:39

7) How shall we return? / Malachi 3:8-10 - In the New Covenant the only way a believer can walk in a curse is to believe they can be cursed / Galatians 3:10-14 - Ex. - Luke 16:9-12

Summary: The was written to a back slidden old covenant priesthood who were lethargic in their relationship with God and as a result were neglecting their ministry from God unto the people. / Revelation 2:1-7

However, there are many relational lessons we can apply to our walk
