HAVE YOU A STORY THAT SHOULD BE TOLD?

The Manitoba Historical Society has announced that it is again

offering the Margaret McWilliams Medals for historical essays or collections

of historical information.

Purpose of the competition, set up in recognition of Mrs. R.F.

McWilliams' historical work for Manitoba, is to encourage the preservation

of the history of our pioneering ancestors.

In order to attract all available historical material the Society

prefers that entries be in essay form but will accept journals or collections

of interesting letters, or recorded interviews with old-timers.

Eight medals are available this year to be awarded to best entries

from the following districts: northern Manitoba; the federal-electoral

districts of Portage, Neepawa and Dauphin; Brandon, Souris and Marquette;

Selkirk and Springfield; and Lisgar; ; Winnipeg

south; the metropolitan area of Greater Winnipeg, including the city of

St. Boniface.

Essays will be judged at three levels: high school, amateur and

professional. The rules are as follows :

,Each essay must have a definite subject -- a place, period, per-

sonality, etc. -- and source material should be listed.

•Essays should be at least 3,000 words; collections of material

will be judged on their interest value.

•Manuscript essays should be typewritten, or clearly handwritten,

double spaced, and on one side of the sheet only.

.The subject of the essay should appear on each page and the pages

,Name of competitor should not appear on the essay but be attached with the address, age and grade (if a student).

.Notice of intention to compete must be sent to the secretary,

Manitoba Historical Society, 255 Legislative Building, Winnipeg, by July 1,

Entries are not due until September 1, 1958,

All essays become the property of the Manitoba Historical Society

which reserves the right of publication or reproduction. Competitors may reproduce their own work with the permission of the Society,
