C’est curieux. Récemment je pensais à Christian Didier, le déodatien « assassin de Bousquet » qui a été porté en terre mardi. L’histoire est la suivante. Les excellentes « Editions de la Pigne » de l’ami Jean-Marc à Saint-Dié viennent de sortir « Souscription pour l’édification d’un monument au Policier inconnu » de Maurice Rajsfus. Ce nom me disait quelque chose, mais je me trompais…{ moitié. Je croyais me souvenir, { tort, que M. Rajsfus était l’auteur de « L’homme qui tua René Bousquet » (Stock, 2001), qui n’est pas tendre avec Christian Didier. C’est Henri Raczimow qui, grossièrement résumé, se range dans le camp de ceux qui reprochent { Christian Didier de priver la France et les victimes d’un procès de René Bousquet [assassiné par Ch. Didier le 8 juin 1993] Maurice Rajsfus alors ? On y revient parce qu’il est lui l’auteur d’un papier fameux dans Libération [2 novembre 1995] où, à la veille de son procès, il défend Christian Didier. Il est dans le groupe de ceux qui estiment qu’attendre un procès de Bousquet était illusoire. Ne ressentant nul besoin de « consulter », je n’ai pas eu l’occasion de feuilleter « Paris Match » [23 avril 2015] en salle d’attente. Christian Didier y réclame une « réhabilitation » [il avait été condamné à 10 ans] en soutenant l’idée que le procès de Bousquet n’aurait jamais eu lieu mais que son procès en réhabilitation en…tiendrait lieu.

Mais à peine était-elle portée sur les fonts baptismaux que les élections municipales de mars 2014 lui donnaient une nouvelle gouvernance emmenée par Nicolas Daragon, maire de Valence. Ce dernier avait clairement émis le souhait de scinder cette toute nouvelle agglomération en séparant les bassins de vie de Valence et de Romans/Bourg-de-Péage. Mais les services de l’Etat, à travers le préfet et la direction générale des collectivités locales, n’y ont pas été favorables. L’Etat souhaite en effet des communautés d’agglomérations fortes afin de pouvoir leur transférer certaines de ses compétences, c’est le cas par exemple de l’urbanisme. Les élus de notre grande agglomération doivent donc maintenant construire son avenir, forte de ses 51 communes et de ses 212 000 habitants, elle est la 4ème agglomération de la région Rhône-Alpes. Dans les prochaines semaines, avec les 110 délégués, nous allons élaborer le projet de territoire et choisir les compétences qui lui seront attribuées. Tout en veillant aux intérêts de Génissieux, je vais travailler, avec mes collègues Maires, au dynamisme de notre territoire et à l’amélioration des services rendus à nos concitoyens. Witnesses described a scene of dreadful car­ nage as Pakistani "peacekeepers," firing from sand­ bagged bunkers, sprayed the peacefully protesting crowd with machine-gun fire, leaving scores of dead and wounded writhing in the streets. The day before, Pakistani troops wearing UN blue helmets had fired on Somalis demonstrating in front of a military compound, killing at least four and wound­ ing another 20. The demonstrators were marching on the former U.S. embassy to protest the pre-dawn attack by American AC-130H gunships and Cobra attack helicopters. A massive barrage of computer-guided artil­ lery shells was unleashed, supposedly against local strongman General Aidid's "weapons storage centers" located in a heavily populated residential area. To cover their racist crime, the imperialists lie shame­ lessly. Clinton's UN delegate Madeleine Albright said she "can understand" the reaction of the soldiers who were "not able to defend themselves"! The troops sup­ posedly had itchy trigger fingers because the rules of engagement only allowed them to fire in self-defense. While silence has been the focus of trauma-centered texts in recent decades, I bring in the theoretical frameworks of affect theory, cultural translation, and new media as possible ways out of narrative rupture. These ways out of literary silence lead me to propose new mechanisms of empathy between victims, perpetrators, and their descendants in novels, films, and graphic novels depicting the aftermath of the Second World War, the Algerian War of Independence, or migration crises in France and Algeria.     The Trials and Significance of Nazi War Criminals and Collaborators in France By: Gabrielle Marshall Following the trials of Nazi war criminals and collaborators that transpired immediately after World War II, decades passed before the trials of Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie and French collaborators Rene Bousquet and Maurice Papon. While the reason for the delayed trials differed, the shared relevance of the trials was their allowance for the resurrected testimony of survivors of German occupation and the subsequent Holocaust. Klaus Barbie, otherwise known as the ‘Butcher of Lyon,’ was convicted of war crimes and sentenced to death in 1952 but with the help of the American government was able to evade capture until 1983. While Barbie’s defence lawyer Jacques Verges attempted to deflect his client’s crimes by arguing for the immorality of French military actions in Algeria, it was the testimony of Barbie’s victims and Holocaust survivors that remained the most prominent and significant aspect of the proceedings. Barbie’s trial served as a reminder of the incalculable suffering inflicted by the Nazi regime even by lower level officials and allowed for the humanization of wartime statistics that took on a deeper significance when compiled with the testimony of its victims. At the same time, the indictments of French collaborators Rene Bousquet and Maurice Papon served as a reminder to the French population of the role of the Vichy government in the execution of Nazi policy as they collaborated in the deportation and systematic killing of the Jewish population. In 1949, Bousquet, the General Secretary of the Police, was tried and convicted of national unworthiness and sentenced to five years in prison but had his sentence commuted because of his last-minute aid of a group of Resistance fighters destined for execution.
