The World Leader in Football FieldTurf is the choice of football around the globe. It is the choice of top clubs such as FC Barcelona, Ajax, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham United, Paris Saint Germain, Olympique FieldTurf is Football Lyonnais, Werder Bremen, and Seattle Sounders. Why is FieldTurf the #1 choice for football? Independent studies show that FieldTurf has grass-like playability. FieldTurf is ideal for football because of its fibre technology (ball roll and performance), heavyweight infill system (energy restitution and shock absorption), and wide gauge tufting (playability and safety). “Their turf is good! It’s different from any other turf you play in the league. That’s an amazing one.” Thierry Henry Forward, New York Red Bulls and former French National Team member commenting on Jeld-Wen’s FieldTurf field. FIFA Preferred FieldTurf is a select member of the FIFA Preferred Producer Program, having met the rigid obligations and reporting requirements. A FIFA Preferred Producer goes beyond the traditional supplier / installer scenario by continually improving the quality of their product and assuming responsibility for the production, installation and maintenance of the turf from inception to completion. I N T E R N A T I O N A L S K A T I N G U N I O N HEADQUARTERS ADDRESS: AVENUE JUSTE-OLIVIER17 CH 1006 LAUSANNE SWITZERLAND TELEPHONE (+41) 21 612 66 66 TELEFAX (+41) 21 612 66 77 E-MAIL: [email protected] March 18, 2017 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2017 Ice Dance, Free Dance The ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2017 continued in Taipei, Chinese Taipei, Saturday with the Free Dance. Rachel Parsons/Michael Parsons (USA) dance off with gold USA’s Rachel Parsons/Michael Parsons danced off with the gold medal, edging out Alla Loboda/Pavel Drozd of Russia by 0.55 points. Christina Carreira/Anthony Ponomarenko (USA) rose from sixth to claim the bronze medal in their debut at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships. Parsons/Parsons dance to a new arrangement of “Singing In the Rain” included five level-four elements, while the diagonal step sequence was rated a level three. The only glitch in the otherwise smooth performance was a somewhat wobbly rotational lift. Nevertheless, the 2016 World Junior silver medalists posted a new personal best of 97.54 points and totaled 164.82 points to overtake the leading Loboda/Drozd. “It feels incredible for us. Michael and I had a really good season so far and this is just the perfect way to cap off our junior career. We couldn’t be more happy”, Rachel Parsons said. “I think everybody has really improved since last year. Everybody has been working really hard and it was a much closer competition since last year.

  • The Russia You Never Met
The Russia You Never Met MATT BIVENS AND JONAS BERNSTEIN fter staggering to reelection in summer 1996, President Boris Yeltsin A announced what had long been obvious: that he had a bad heart and needed surgery. Then he disappeared from view, leaving his prime minister, Viktor Cher- nomyrdin, and his chief of staff, Anatoly Chubais, to mind the Kremlin. For the next few months, Russians would tune in the morning news to learn if the presi- dent was still alive. Evenings they would tune in Chubais and Chernomyrdin to hear about a national emergency—no one was paying their taxes. Summer turned to autumn, but as Yeltsin’s by-pass operation approached, strange things began to happen. Chubais and Chernomyrdin suddenly announced the creation of a new body, the Cheka, to help the government collect taxes. In Lenin’s day, the Cheka was the secret police force—the forerunner of the KGB— that, among other things, forcibly wrested food and money from the peasantry and drove some of them into collective farms or concentration camps. Chubais made no apologies, saying that he had chosen such a historically weighted name to communicate the seriousness of the tax emergency.1 Western governments nod- ded their collective heads in solemn agreement. The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank both confirmed that Russia was experiencing a tax collec- tion emergency and insisted that serious steps be taken.2 Never mind that the Russian government had been granting enormous tax breaks to the politically connected, including billions to Chernomyrdin’s favorite, Gazprom, the natural gas monopoly,3 and around $1 billion to Chubais’s favorite, Uneximbank,4 never mind the horrendous corruption that had been bleeding the treasury dry for years, or the nihilistic and pointless (and expensive) destruction of Chechnya.

Since the festival’s first edition in 2002, TIMF has been striving to assemble highly qualified musicians in order to build its own ensemble. In 2011, then Alexander Liebreich initiated a collaboration of musicians from Ensemble TIMF with the Munich Chamber Orchestra, thus for the first time building a truly international Festival Orchestra. From then on, the group was assembled annually, performing at home and abroad. At the opening of the new Tongyeong Concert Hall in 2014, TFO was again led by Alexander Liebreich and included musicians from Ensemble TIMF, Polish National Radio Orchestra of Katowice, and from major international symphony orchestras, such as NDR Hamburg, Munich Philharmonic, Kremerata Baltica, Osaka Philharmonic, Melbourne Symphony and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, TFO truly became a musical centerpiece of the Tongyeong International Music Festival. Following the festival theme „Voyages“, the orchestra went abroad to play in Japan and China. Performing together with violinist Gidon Kremer and German conductor Christoph Poppen, the orchestra consisted of musicians mainly from Korea, Japan and China to create a musical bridge between the three countries.

The Society was founded in 1926 and, during the past 92 years, has undergone a number of permutations which were the result of the many political and social shifts over the 20th Century. Originally, the Society exclusively helped children of Russian decent outside of Russia who were victims of the Russian Revolution and World Wars I & II. Eventually Europe, followed by South America, became self-sufficient and the Society refocused its efforts on helping children in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. For the past two decades, the Society has devoted all of its aid to Russia. The Society’s primary activities include: pediatric maxillofacial surgery in partnership with the Russian Aid Foundation; a successful college scholarship program currently supporting 157 students; assisting vetted orphanages; and hosting an an- nual Christmas “Yelka” party where over 1,000 orphans from across Russia celebrate an unforgettable day in Moscow.
