COMMUNITY The town of Middlebury is a picturesque rural town of 8,000 residents, located in Addison County, 35 miles south of Burlington, ’s largest city. Agriculture, diversified industry and educational institutions are the primary sources of employment. Middlebury is a vibrant hub of retail and arts activity and is also home to , with whom we have a longstanding positive relationship.

THE HIGH SCHOOL Middlebury Union High School (MUHS), serving Middlebury and six surrounding towns, offers a comprehensive curriculum with an enrollment of approximately 550 students in grades 9-12. MUHS offers 11 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, as well as a variety of heterogeneously grouped courses. Approximately 29% of the students participate in vocational classes at the neighboring Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center. MUHS operates with an alternating day schedule consisting of eight 83-minute blocks. MUHS offers a broad range of co-curricular activities, including 21varsity athletic teams, and various clubs and groups. MUHS is currently in transition to become an authorized International Baccalaureate World School, offering both the Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP).

PROFESSIONAL STAFF and ACCREDITATION The faculty is comprised of 45 full-time professionals of whom 76% hold a Master’s Degree or higher. Faculty members are active in regional and national educational organizations. Middlebury Union High School is accredited by the Association of Schools and Colleges, neasc.org. In addition, in anticipation of our IB authorization, a majority of the faculty have completed IB training in their course content. Our school adheres to the principles of good practice as prescribed by the New England Association for College Admission Counselors (NEACAC).

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CLASS OF 2020 To earn a diploma, students accumulate a minimum of 23 credits. Students are required to carry a minimum of seven credits per year. Minimum graduation requirements include:

ADVANCED PLACEMENT AND ACADEMIC HONORS For course descriptions, refer to the MUHS Catalog, available online at https://www.acsdvt.org/muhs Middlebury Union High School offers 11 AP courses including, English Literature and Composition, and Culture, and Culture, Calculus AB and BC, Statistics, , Environmental Science, Physics, US History and World History. Additional AP classes are available through Virtual High School, govhs.org. Students may also access courses through Middlebury College, Dual Enrollment with participating colleges with in Vermont and other flexible pathways. Four students in the Class of 2017 were finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition, the designation of AP Scholar was earned by 13 students, AP Scholar with Honor by 9 students, AP Scholar with Distinction by 8 students.

CLASS RANK and GPA Class rank and GPA are weighted to give merit to those students who challenge themselves in Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses. The numerical value for completed AP and Dual Enrollment courses is on a 4.3 scale. All other courses are unweighted on a 4.0 scale. COLLEGE MATRICULATION

There were 168 students in the Class of 2018 at MUHS; 70% are attending four-year colleges and universities, an additional 6.6% are enrolled in one or two-year colleges, of those pursuing higher education, 21 were first generation college bound. Approximately 16.3% of the class sought employment, an apprenticeship or joined the military. Below you will find a matriculation list for the MUHS classes of 2017 and 2018.
