DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE HEADQUARTERS UNITED STATES AIR FORCE Air Force Historical Studies Office 28 June 2011 Errata Sheet for the Air Force History and Museum Program publication: With Courage: the United States Army Air Forces in WWII, 1994, by Bernard C. Nalty, John F. Shiner, and George M. Watson. Page 215 Correct: Second Lieutenant Lloyd D. Hughes To: Second Lieutenant Lloyd H. Hughes Page 218 Correct Lieutenant Hughes To: Second Lieutenant Lloyd H. Hughes Page 357 Correct Hughes, Lloyd D., 215, 218 To: Hughes, Lloyd H., 215, 218 Foreword In the last decade of the twentieth century, the United States Air Force commemorates two significant benchmarks in its heritage. The first is the occasion for the publication of this book, a tribute to the men and women who served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War 11. The four years between 1991 and 1995 mark the fiftieth anniversary cycle of events in which the nation raised and trained an air armada and com- mitted it to operations on a scale unknown to that time. With Courage: U.S.Army Air Forces in World War ZZ retells the story of sacrifice, valor, and achievements in air campaigns against tough, determined adversaries. It describes the development of a uniquely American doctrine for the application of air power against an opponent's key industries and centers of national life, a doctrine whose legacy today is the Global Reach - Global Power strategic planning framework of the modern U.S. Air Force. The narrative integrates aspects of strategic intelligence, logistics, technology, and leadership to offer a full yet concise account of the contributions of American air power to victory in that war.

HEINKEL He 111 J-1 DELIVERY PHOTOS The Heinkel He 111 J story. On 7. April 1936 it was declared by the German Government that aircraft with wheel undercarriages were from now on permitted to be operated by the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) as bombers, recce and torpedo bombers. Shortly after an order for 120 He 111 J torpedo bombers was given to Heinkel. In a record timeframe from 4/5-1936 to 4/4-1937 a new factory was built at Oranienburg NW of Berlin with a capacity to complete 32 He 111s a month, but soon 2 aircraft per day were rolling out. The He 111 J was, except for the engines, a He 111F which also incorporated the new wing with straight wing leading and trailing edges. The engines of the F models which were diesel engines were replaced with 2 Daimler-Benz DB 600G with non-retractable coolers. They developed 950HP giving a max. speed of 305 km/h and a march speed of 280 km/h. Endurance was 4 hours with reserves. Armament was the standard German bomber armament of three MG 15’s situated in the nose, fuselage top and underneath the fuselage in a retractable bin (which when lowered reduced the speed of the aircraft by 25 km/h. Four crew manned the aircraft. The 120 German aircraft served mainly on reconnaissance duties in the North and Baltic Seas where the main user unit was the “küstenfliegergruppe 806 which had 3 staffeln with about 33 aircraft at the time. The unit converted to Ju 88 bombers in May 1941.

Scramble Paul Day 2005 Scramble is a bronze maquette model for part of the Battle of Britain Monument in central London. The monument features many scenes relating to military and civilian life during the Battle of Britain. The centre piece, Scramble, shows pilots running toward their aircraft after receiving orders to intercept an incoming air attack. ZONE 1 Defeat in France May – June 1940 Britain and France declared war on Germany on 3 September 1939, two days after the country invaded Poland. Several months later, on 10 May 1940, Germany attacked Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands and France in a rapid ‘Blitzkrieg’ offensive. During a brief, but costly campaign, Britain deployed multiple Royal Air Force (RAF) squadrons to France. The aircraft were sent to support the British Expeditionary Force fighting on the ground and to counter Germany’s powerful air force, the Luftwaffe. Within 6 weeks, France had fallen. The remaining British, French and other Allied troops retreated to the coast, where over half a million were evacuated. The majority departed from the port of Dunkirk. On 22 June, France surrendered to Germany. Britain had lost its main ally and now found itself open to invasion. · 3 September 1939: Britain and France declare war on Germany · 10 May

Received: 30 September 2019; Accepted: 14 November 2019; Published: 22 November 2019 Abstract: Aluminum alloys are very interesting witnesses of industrial and technical development. The first ever developed was Duralumin, a light metal with good mechanical properties. In the 1930s, the rise of nationalism stimulated research and development, generating various aluminum alloys. This work reports the comparison of two versions of aluminum alloys, which were found in collected parts of WWII crashed aircraft from four nations: a Messerschmitt Bf 109 (DE), a Dewoitine D.520 (FR), and a P-51 Mustang (USA) and an Avro Lancaster (United Kingdom). The first version of alloy with magnesium content below or equal to 1 wt.% and the second version with higher magnesium content (1.5 wt.%), were identified as respectively AlCuMg1, AlCuMg2 in Germany; Duralumin, Duralumin F.R. in France; Hiduminium DU Brand, Hiduminium 72 in the UK and 17S, 24S in the USA. This study uses a multiscale approach based on historical research complimented by laboratory analyses of materials directly collected on the crashed aircraft.

  • Courte Description Technique Du He 60 Le Heinkel He 60 Est Un Hydravion À Flotteurs, Biplan À Ailes Décalées, Monomoteur Biplace, De Construction Mixte Bois
