Board President’s Message There is something truly magical about a public library! Not only does the library have a tremendous allure of a wide range of literature for all ages, but our East Islip Public Library is housed in a beautiful building and offers all residents a peaceful and tranquil environment in which to appreciate the present, expand one’s mind, and to think and read. There are multitudes of thought provoking and exciting programs regularly scheduled such as the fabulously successful Fifth Annual Comic Con event, which was held this July, with over 330 attendees. It was also wonderful to see how many East Islip students enthusiastically ventured to the library this summer to report on the books they read over the vacation! This year we say goodbye to two of our outstanding and dedicated librarians. Lorraine Simonds, who was employed at the library for over 40 years. She was often seen assisting patrons at the reference desk and was the Adult Program Coordinator. Sybil Rapecis worked in the children’s department offering support to our youngest residents, for over 11 years. We are grateful for their commitment to East Islip and appreciate their contributions to the community. We wish them the very best. On behalf of the entire library staff and the Board of Trustees we invite you to take full advantage of the support and services that our library affords all of our community members. Please keep in mind that there are always interesting, entertaining, and engaging programs for all ages to participate in throughout the year, providing opportunities and learning experiences for everyone at our local library! Thank you, Deborah Y. Smith, Ed.D.
