I liked the Editor’s idea of something special to celebrate snippets of gossip, several pints and various salty snacks (and 500 editions of the Cassington & Worton News. I was hoping to probably due in no small part to Kevin’s expertise), we ended up come up with something relevant. Where to start? 500 years with a publication that seemed to be rather well received. We of Cassington history. Nope. My own knowledge of the village introduced advertising for local businesses (seen as quite radical is ‘so last century’ and that’s exactly where it stops. Filling in at the time but Yarnton and could do it so why not?). the gaps between 1519 and now would involve far too many Back then, the adverts not only paid for the extra pages but visits to the county record offi ce in Cowley, that I soon gave up every now and again we would see there was a surplus of cash on that one. Maybe my favourite 500 things about living in in the kitty and so this would be passed over to village causes. Cassington? Hmmm, now I am probably one of Cassington’s Of course, times move on. 1 welcome Kevin's CAWNer Last month I was challenged by the saying "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always go en" (Anthony Robbins). Mmm! As we reach the 500th edi on, perhaps it is me to do things diff erently... will you join me in the journey? I thought about a new masthead for the magazine and I've trialled an idea – it may not be perfect or quite what I imagined but it is the start of that journey to explore new perspec ves. Your welcome to submit your masthead ideas and we can trial them in future edi ons possibly. I also fi nally have the start of a sports news page where I hope we can celebrate the spor ng achievements of village residents and the teams that call our sports fi eld home. I look forward to receiving your spor ng updates – from short one sentence status updates through to more substan al reports. And fi nally, our thanks to the Parish Council for their fi nancial support. Future edi ons of this magazine were seriously in doubt – just as we reached this 500th milestone. With thanks to all those past and present who together have got us to this point, I look forward to what the future has in store – your news and though ul contribu ons, advertorial support and a record of the journey of the parish of Cassington & Worton and its residents.

Our fi rst meeting of 2019 was a most interesting talk given by Ian Scott on his years as a Footman to the Queen. We were given an insight into the workings of the Royal household and how everything is done with military precision. Our next meeting will be held on 21 February. Our Speaker is Mr John Leighfi eld and his talk is entitled ‘Putting Cassington on the Map’. Many happy times in there. Some remembered more clearly than others......

Who could forget the orange & brown chequered fl oor tiles

I remember only ever being allowed in the games rooms at back and being sent around to get 10p back on a bottle of pop

Games room, there a good memory.

Mr & Mrs. Benson landlord and landlady around the 60s

Used to go to the pigeon racing club round the back with my dad

I remember Jim & Jane Cavilier as Landlords, along with hours waiting at "the hatch" for another Coke with a straw and crisps!!
