Hilton Garden Inn Finnieston Quay, Glasgow Planning Report April 2021 Hilton Garden Inn, Finnieston, Glasgow Planning Report Executive Summary This supporting design document has been prepared by Threesixty Architecture to accompany a Planning Application on behalf of DTP Hospitality UK Ltd. The application is to replace the existing Hotel Cladding at the Hilton Garden Inn, Glasgow. The building is compliant with the Technical Standards in place at the time of construction, however the Client wishes to improve the building envelope for both fire performace and appearance. Threesixty Architecture have been working in conjunction with Buro Happold Fire Engineers to develop a strategy for affordable cladding replacement including fire performance enhancements The following pages summarise our proposals for the new facade treatment to create a more attractive asset. 2 Project Details 1 Hilton Garden Inn, Finnieston, Glasgow Planning Report Project Details SSE Hydro Project Location Hilton Garden Inn is a 6 storey, 164 room hotel constructed circa1999. The sleeping accommodation is located on floors 1 to 5 with a plant floor located on the 6th floor. Supporting ancillary accommodation (restaurant / bar / kitchens / meeting rooms, etc) is located on the Ground Floor. A814 The hotel is located in the Finnieston Quay area of Glasgow, close to the Clyde Arc Bridge, Finnieston Crane, Hydro and SEC Centre. The main entrance is from Finnieston Quay to the north via steps with a secondary accessible pedestrian access / escape to the south from the riverside external terrace. The hotel addresses the Clyde River to the south with a private hard landscaped area and steps down to a pontoon. The hotel has a barrier controlled car park to the west with circa 140 spaces and a drop off / pick up lay-by to the north Finneston Quay close to the main entrance. A main cycle route (NR75) is River Clyde located immediately to the north of the hotel and runs east / west along the waterfront. Project objectives • Improvement in fire performance • Improvement to appearance and presence • Improvement of proportions with cladding taken above and below existing lines • Bringing cladding out further to create reveals and add interest and depth to the façade. The cladding replacement also allows the opportunity to improve thermal performance, improve external lightng and enhance / improve the existing signage. Selected Palette We have deliberately avoided introducing ‘flashes’ of colour(s), as colour goes in and out of fashion and can also clash with new branding strategies that may come forward for this Hotel. We feel this palette gives the building a defined character which will stay robust for years to come.
