This article presents the reservoirs behind the dams constructed on the Dunajec River in the Pieniny Region. The geographical location of the reservoirs as well as their basic morphometric parameters and functions they fulfi l are described. Nomenclature is also discussed and there appears to be signifi cant variation in reservoirs names. A proposal concerning nomenclature is formulated and justifi ed on terminological and linguistic grounds. [email protected] *Author for correspondence Abstract Drábová-Degro M., Krnáčová Z.: Assessment of natural and cultural landscape capacity to pro- posals the ecological model of tourism development (case study for the area of the Zamagurie region). Ekológia (Bratislava), Vol. 36, No. 1, p. 69–87, 2017. Agricultural and industrial conditions are not favourable in the uphill and mountain areas of the Zamagurie region, and tourism is often the only opportunity to create new jobs, develop the habitation areas and avoid the emigration of local inhabitants. The Walachian and Sholtys colo- nization has transformed the landscape and created unique significant spatial landscape elements that are traditionally utilized for agricultural purposes, and create a unique esthetical landscape preserved till the present times. This case study has been aimed at developing and applying the new quantification methods using GIS tools for evaluation of localizing, selective realization and environmental preconditions of the landscape, representing recreational (cultural) services of the landscape ecological systems, based on selected indicators. To evaluate the localizing precondi- tions of the landscape, we referred to the landscape-ecological complex geo-databases (LEC) (The- matic maps - internal ground document of ZB GIS , 2013), completed with the field survey during the period 2013−2014 and identification of secondary landscape structure elements (SLS) and selected morphometric indicators.

• Regional SWOT Analysis for THETRIS Project PP4: Regional Development Agency of the Prešov Self- Governing Region
Regional SWOT analysis for THETRIS project PP4: Regional Development Agency of the Prešov Self- Governing region INTRODUCTION TO PREŠOV REGION: Prešov Region is located in the northeastern part of the Slovak Republic. Its northern boundary is a long state border with Poland. In the East, region adjacent to the Ukrainian Republic. Adjacent on the southern side there is the Košice Region, while adjacent to the west is Žilina and Banská Bystrica region. It is conveniently located, connected to two states and three counties, which may lead to increase in visits by foreign visitors and by domestic visitors from other regions respectively. Prešov region is located in the northern temperate zone. This zone is characterized by changing of four seasons. This is a downside, but the natural potential of the region offers a possibility of recreational use both in summer and winter. Natural environment with high forest cover, water areas and a large number of historical treasures creates diverse possibilities for recreation and relaxation by tourists. Areas like High Tatra mountains national park, national park Pieniny, Domaša water basin, historic city centers of Prešov, Levo ča, Kežmarok, Bardejov are filled with important cultural monuments, sacred objects and others. The Prešov region lies on the main European watershed. There are many picturesque lakes, created by glacial activity in the High Tatras. The other major tourist centers are lakes Popradské pleso and Štrbské pleso. Rafting on a traditional barge on a river Dunajec turns into a tourist attraction in summer. Most attractive tourist season is summer, especially for a variety of water sports on the Domaša water basin.

• Parks, Policies and People Nature Conservation Governance in Post-Socialist EU Countries
Parks, Policies and People and People Policies Parks, Parks, Policies and People Our main goal is to preserve species and habitats in the good condi- Nature Conservation Governance tions and maintain favourable conservation status. (Park administration) in Post-Socialist EU Countries We [the municipality] do not receive taxes or subsidies, so I always wonder how we are supposed to make ends meet and deliver education, Natalya Yakusheva healthcare and reliable public transportation. (Municipality office) Nature conservation and rural development are seen increasingly as interlinked agendas. In practice, however, the local potential for their integration remains limited, and often no strategic vision exists for how to achieve it. Local actors are reluctant to engage in developing more inclusive, transparent, accountable, and participatory policy making, as they have often experienced few positive outcomes from these strategies. This thesis explores key challenges and opportunities for nature con- servation policy and practices at the local level in a context of post- socialist legacies and Europeanization to further understand the ongoing governance changes in Central Eastern Europe. Natalya Yakusheva carries out research in the field of environmental science with a special focus on environmental governance. This is her PhD thesis.
