Fort Sill Artillery OCS Alumni who have attained the rank of full or above and have not been nominated for or inducted into the Artillery OCS Hall of Fame.

On January 5, 1968, OCS Commandant Colonel (later ) Marlin Camp wrote, “The west room of the Lanyard Lounge (Building 3031) will be the Hall of Fame and now contains pictures of graduates who have attained the rank of full Colonel and above, and graduates who have been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross or Medal of Honor. I now consider this the appropriate time to announce to the public, through Army news media, the establishment of this Hall of Fame to commence a concentrated effort for additional nominees.”

In December 1968, Army Times published the following about the Artillery OCS Hall of Fame: “Fort Sill officials say that many of the school’s distinguished alumni may be missing from the Hall’s roster because class lists from the school’s early days are incomplete and because the Hall was established too recently for an extensive search to have been completed yet. The school is seeking assistance from OCS alumni in tracking down all eligible candidates for the Hall.”

In keeping with MG Camp’s intent for the Hall of Fame, it is our goal to honor every graduate who has attained the rank of Colonel (0-6) or above. Since 1968 every Artillery OCS graduate nominated after achieving the rank of Colonel has been inducted into the Hall of Fame. There are currently 374 retired Colonels or above who are not yet in the Hall of Fame. That is unfortunate. They meet the nomination criteria just like the other 956 who are currently in the Hall of Fame. Nobody ever nominated them, or they did not know about the Hall of Fame, or they may not have known they were eligible for the honor.

Over the years, significant progress has been made to identify, nominate and induct the graduates who meet the Hall of Fame criteria. But we still have a long way to go. Achieving the rank of Colonel after graduating from Officer Candidate School is a significant accomplishment worthy of honor and recognition. One reason the Artillery OCS Hall of Fame was established was to recognize that specific milestone in a military career and it should not be thought of as a perk.

For decades, many of our battlefield heroes seemed to be forgotten. Until 1999, the Hall of Fame only honored two Medal of Honor recipients and 16 Distinguished Service Cross recipients. That is no longer the case – based on our continuing research we are now able to honor three MOH recipients and 87 DSC recipients who graduated from the Artillery OCS at Fort Sill.

Inclusion in the Hall of Fame reflects great credit upon both the individuals and the Artillery Officer Candidate School as an institution. Citizen soldiers who answered the call during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam are part of the Artillery OCS legacy. We have compiled a list of those known to have attained full Colonel rank (0-6) or above and proudly present the list here for all to see. We are looking for any corrections or updates and biographical information on any of these and know there are more names to add to the list. If you can help us in any way to get these graduates the recognition they deserve, we would be grateful.

An unfortunate misconception was that the Hall of Fame was only for Artillery branch (FA or ADA) officers. That was never the case. Graduates from OCS at Fort Sill are eligible for the Hall of Fame, regardless of branch. Regular Army, Reserve, and National Guard officers are all qualified. Self-nominations are accepted for the Artillery OCS Hall of Fame. The graduates listed above are verified to have attained the rank of Colonel or above. They meet the criteria for induction into the Artillery Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame. Many of them were never nominated and for others the nomination process was initiated and not completed. Many of them are deceased, but they still deserve the honor. In keeping with the true spirit of the intent of Hall of Fame recognition we hope to see that every deserving graduate is recognized in the Artillery OCS Hall of Fame. It reflects favorably upon the Artillery Officer Candidate School and contributes to our Legacy.
