Our presenter was Glen Flagler of Replacement Parts Schenectady who made an exciting program of Clean & Service Grills making your own fly rod or casting rod. The public is welcome at a reception for this prolific artist to be held on May 8th from 6 to 8 P.M. Dirolf will give a talk about his work at 7 p.m. Dirolf’s show will include wood engraving, paintings and drawings. He demonstrates his love of nature and realism, spending much time in the Adirondacks for inspiration. Dirolf was a graphic artist before starting a career as a high school art teacher in Bethlehem, NY. Guitarist and singer songwriter John Kribs joined his first working band at the age of 13 and never looked back. He traveled the northeast for years playing to appreciative audiences at colleges, coffeehouses, bars and festivals. Their 1987 INDIE release ‘Johnny and the Triumphs’, featured 9 of John’s songs and reached to the top of the American play charts in France, going to #1 in the cities of Bordeaux and Sens. “Red Belvedere” from that album and written by John has also been featured on NPRs “Car Talk”. He joined The McKrells; a unique blend of Celtic and bluegrass music and voted Best Bluegrass Band by the Northeast Country Music Association in 2000 Post & Beam Homes and 2001. The Tennant family who operated the large Mike Gaggi woodenware mill at the end of Tennantville Rd. had many hired hands. My grandfather Cecil Electrician Edwards was a farm hand at Tennants when he first met my grandmother Chitto Knowlton from Stony Creek who was a hired girl in the Tennant Licensed household. & Insured Scott Robinson had a rather unique situation with his hired man. Mert Rhodes had gotten into some trouble with the law and was required to work off his sentence on Scott’s farm-a 20th Residential century work release program. & The Edwards farm on Tennantville Rd. had its fair share of hired men. Their large herd of cows Commercial provided surplus milk that was sold to a local dairy thus demanding extra help to keep up with Wiring the chores. Bachelors Wal (Wallace) Colson, Mike Dillon and Melvin Wilcox all found lodging at the Edwards farm during the times that they worked Service Calls there. Very sweaty, he stood in a drafty doorway waiting for the rain to stop. He caught a chill, then pneumonia and passed away a few days later. He left behind a twin brother, Will. A second man was usually hired to help during haying season and in the fall during corn harvest time. Sam Greene walked from his home on Tange Rd. to help with the haying and Paul Frasier came down from his home at Tennantville to spend a week grinding corn and filling silo. Erwin Edwards and young Evero Knowlton were other hired men. Evero once experienced quite a shock--electrical, that is. Evero was sitting in the Edwards kitchen during a thunder storm. We volunteered 105 man hours and traveled 281 miles thru the month. Our members made a motion to start up the Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Association.
