Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association - April 18 & 19, 2020 - 3 AKC National Owner-Handled Series (Remember to check the box near the bottom of the entry form) The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers. Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry on the entry form. Dogs entered in the Amateur-Owner-Handler class will automatically be marked as eligible to compete in the NOHS. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the judge’s book, steward’s book & the catalog.Dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owner. Professional handlers*, household members and current assistants** to professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any NOHS competition during the entire show. Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are eligible to compete in the Best of Breed competition including Winners Dog, Winners Bitch and winners of the non-regular classes. • If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is Owner-Handled competition eligible, it will automatically be Owner- Handled Best of Breed/Variety and be eligible to compete in both the regular as well as the Owner-Handled group. • If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is not eligible for Owner-Handled competition and the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety is eligible, the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety will compete against the eligible exhibits of the other sex to determine Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety. • If neither the Best of Breed nor the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety are Owner-Handled competition eligible and Select Dog & Select Bitch are both eligible, the judge is to choose Best Owner- Handled exhibit from the Selects and eligible Winners Dog or Winners Bitch. • If one of the Selects is eligible, excuse all Champions and non-regular class winners of the same sex and then choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the remaining dogs of the opposite sex including the eligible Winners. • If Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog & Select Bitch are not eligible, the judge may choose any eligible dog remaining in the ring including Winners Dog or Winners Bitch as Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety. • If the Best of Winners is eligible, the other Winner is ineligible since it was defeated. • No class dogs other than the Winners Dog & Winners Bitch are eligible to return to the ring. The breed will not be represented in the Owner-Handled Group if there is no eligible dog competing in the Best of Breed or in Best of Winners competition. *Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers’ organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. **A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or assisting a professional handler at the show or any time during the cluster/weekend. Attention Exhibitors Free Under-Cover Grooming Space with Electrical Hookups available on a first-come, first-served basis as a courtesy to our exhibitors. Equipment and dogs may be left in the grooming barn overnight. No saving of grooming space is allowed. Bathing Stations (cold water) available in grooming area. No long term crating will be allowed in the Conformation Indoor area. Please remove crates as soon as judging of your breed is completed. There is ample long term crating and grooming space in the arena in designated areas. No electricity is available in the arena area. Equipment but no dogs may be left in the arena, grooming areas, or exhibit halls overnight. Please, no parking other than unloading is allowed inside the covered arena area. Arena gates will be locked immediately after Best in Show each day. No ex-pens or flexi leads are allowed inside any Exhibit Hall. Baby Strollers are not allowed in the Show or Commercial Exhibit Buildings. Space is limited and dogs are moving in and out of the show area. This restriction is for the safety of babies and small children. There are NO shower facilities at this site. Dogs not entered in these events may not be in the show area at any time. Event site must be vacated by 6:00 P.M. Sunday. Neither the show superintendent nor the Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association will be responsible for the loss, damage or injury sustained by exhibitors, handlers, spectators, dogs or property. Parents/guardians assume sole responsibility for the conduct & safety of their children. All persons attending these dog events hereby waive any claim for damages against the Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association or its members in the event that a motor vehicle must be entered to rescue a dog from overheating or suffocation due to improper ventilation.

A judge requesting the use of a ramp must give notice to the show superintendent/show secretary prior to judging. AKC approval is not required. The entire entry in a breed is to be examined in the same manner (ground, table, or ramp). At the discretion of the judge, the following breeds may be judged on the ground or on a ramp through all levels of competition including Group and Best in Show judging: Lagotti Romagnoli, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, American Water Spaniels, Clumber Spaniels, English Springer Spaniels, Field Spaniels, Welsh Springer Spaniels, Cirnechi dell'Etna, Grand Basset Griffon Vendeens, Standard Schnauzers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Irish Terriers, Kerry Blue Terriers, Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Finnish Spitz, Keeshonden, Entlebucher Mountain Dogs, Finnish Lapphunds, Icelandic Sheepdogs, Norwegian Buhunds, Polish Lowland Sheepdogs, Spanish Water Dogs and Norrbottenspets (Misc.). At the discretion of the judge, the following breed may be judged on the table or a ramp through all levels of competition including Group and Best in Show judging: Mudik (Misc.) At the discretion of the judge through all levels of competition including Group and Best in Show judging, the following breeds may be judged on the ground, a ramp, or on a table: Boykin Spaniels and Whippets. The following breeds must be judged on a ramp through all levels of conformation competition: Sussex Spaniels, Basset Hounds, Bulldogs, Chinese Shar-Pei and Chow Chows. This extends to all conformation competition at AKC conformation dog shows and any AKC event where a conformation title may be earned. This policy includes Group, BIS, Junior Showmanship, the 4–6 Month Beginner Puppy Competition, the AKC National Owner-Handled Series (NOHS), and all other special attractions that offer Group and BIS competitions. Ramps can be used in emergency situations to judge any breed. In an emergency situation, where use of a ramp is not indicated in the premium list, an exhibitor has the option of withdrawing their entry and receiving a refund. For the judging of juniors the ramp may be used at the discretion of the judge for the ramp optional breeds.

Designated parking will be available for Obedience & Rally exhibitors near the Obedience/Rally building. Parking fees are payable at the gate: $5.00 per day. RV Parking: The event site includes space for 40-50 RVs near the exhibit halls & arena. There are NO electrical or water hookups. RVs which have no reserved space may be parked a significant distance from exhibit halls. Overnight Parking will be $25.00 per night with NO HOOKUPS for advance reservations made with the RV Chairperson, without advance reservations $30.00 per night. All sites will be assigned by the RV Chairperson. Cash only for those with no reservations. Spaces are limited. As a courtesy to all campers, WCDFA requires the use of generator exhaust “snorkels” in the camper areas. A Limited Number of Handicapped Spaces (4-6), with hookups, are available at a cost of $40.00/night. Please note “Handicapped” on your reservation form. The Parking Chairperson may change space assignments on the day of arrival. Parking regulations will be strictly enforced. Parking areas will be considered part of the event site & any infraction will be referred to the Event Committee for action. All setups must be within your assigned space. Trailers or towed vehicles and the tow vehicle are considered together as one unit. Total length of tow vehicle plus towed vehicle cannot exceed 50 feet. Each Owner and Agent listed on the entry form and/or individual responsible for the dog at a show is bound by the Certification and Agreement on the front and back of the entry form regardless of who may have completed & submitted the entry form. This information is also subject to publication in other media. Dogs May Arrive any time prior to their scheduled time of judging. Dogs not required for further judging will be excused. Judges Will Not Wait for Any Dog Holding Up a Class. Owners or agents alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging ring when their classes are called to be judged. All Dogs Present must be held on leash or confined to their crates except when being judged or when in the exercising ring. Class Cash Prizes will be paid in the ring to the person showing the dog. Claims for prize money must be made in the ring before the judging of that breed is over, and the Superintendent’s Office advised at once. The Superintendents and show- giving Club disclaim any liability for cash prizes after the judging of the breed is over. No gasoline or diesel generators are permitted inside any building or within 100 feet of any tent in which this dog show is conducted.
