About the position Each year, through the university campaign, the Bank of Canada hires exceptional undergraduates as Research Assistants, to support the important work undertaken at the Bank. Working at the Bank affords the unique opportunity to work with leading-edge tools at the centre of Canada’s economic and financial system. Research Assistants are employed across the economics and financial departments of the Bank.

Depending on the area in which you work, your role could include: Supporting talented researchers on economic and financial research projects Supporting economists and analysts in the development of policy recommendations within the Bank’s areas of responsibility Supporting the execution, reporting, and risk management of the Bank’s activities in financial markets

Typically, our Research Assistants work at the Bank for a duration of one to two years before pursuing further studies. Research Assistants have gained admission to top graduate and professional programs in Economics, , Business, and related areas, with some choosing to return to the Bank as an Economist or Analyst.

Position Requirements All Research Assistants must have the ability to collect, organize, manipulate and analyze economic and financial data. You will use tools such as Excel, Stata, R, SAS, MATLAB, RATS, Eviews, VBA, SQL, C++, C, Java, Python, and Bloomberg. Experience with several of these tools is preferred. Your work supports decisions in the Bank’s critical functions, so accuracy and attention to detail are key to success in the role.

As Research Assistants are typically engaged in several projects concurrently, you also possess the ability to organize your work effectively by setting priorities to ensure follow-through and project completion in a timely manner. As you will work in close collaboration with peers and senior staff, you must have the ability to communicate information clearly.

Eligibility For your candidacy to be considered, the completion date of your Bachelor’s degree must be between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2019.
