You will find therefore a bumper selection of special offer label reductions and box set promotions designed to provide both for presents for lucky others (and oneself!) and also the lengthening nights when extended listening becomes more appealing. November’s highlights include the new much-heralded Bryn Terfel album on DG entitled ‘Bad Boys’, the Alfred Brendel Farewell Concerts on Decca, Joyce DiDonato singing Rossini and the Belcea Quartet performing sublime Schubert on EMI. As always, Hyperion bring variety to their recordings including Schumann with the Takacs Quartet, Stephen Layton’s well regarded Polyphony with Handel’s Messiah, the Stenhammer Piano Concertos with Seta Tanyel and the Bowen Piano Sonatas with Danny Driver - all at specially reduced prices. A real bonus is the re-release, in a bargain 10CD set, of English Polyphony to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of The Sixteen and Harry Christophers. We also have a further Bach release to savour on SDG with Gardiner, along with Imogen Cooper performing more Schubert on the Avie label. A feast indeed!     Bajo el título “La Sombra de Vivaldi” ofrecemos esta mañana de Sábado un recorrido por diferentes países y estilos, un repertorio variado pero con un nexo común : El Concierto Solista y un punto de referencia claro : Venecia y Antonio Vivaldi . En 1712 publica Vivaldi en Amsterdam su Opus 3 “L'Estro Armonico” una de las obras más influyentes de la Historia de la Música, un grupo de 12 conciertos que, gracias al trabajo del editor Estienne Roger, consiguió tener una distribución -podríamos decir -masiva, dentro de las posibilidades del momento. Los Conciertos de Vivaldi llegan pues a gran parte de Europa y, aunque están dedicados a los músicos “ Diletantes” son también interpretados, estudiados, copiados o arreglados por la inmensa mayoría de los compositores, incluyendo a personalidades como Bach , Telemann, Handel, Leclair o Locatelli . Tomando como punto de partida el modelo de los “Concerti Grossi” de Arcangello Corelli, Vivaldi da un paso más y escribe, no solo para el grupo de “Concertino “ formado por dos violines y cello, sino que en 6 de los 12 conciertos que forman la colección, dedica el protagonismo a un único instrumento (en este caso el violín) sentando las bases de una nueva forma que tendrá su apogeo ya bien entrado el Siglo XIX . La primera obra del programa es el “Concerto a 8 “ del compositor alemán Johann David Heinichen. Atención a este nombre porque aunque para muchos puede no resultar familiar estamos ante uno de los compositores más solventes e inspirados de la escena Alemana . Aquí la herencia recibida de Vivaldi es seguramente directa, pues Heinichen pasó varios años en Venecia antes de ser contratado en la corte de Augusto II de Polonia en Dresde .

    ANALYSIS AND PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS OF VÍTĚZSLAVA KAPRÁLOVÁ’S STRING QUARTET, OP. 8 (1935-1936) by MARTA BLALOCK (Under the direction of Clint Taylor) ABSTRACT Vítězslava Kaprálová might have been forgotten due to her untimely death during the World War II, however her music has resurfaced in the past decades and her name is well known in the Czech Republic. With no published edition of Kaprálová’s String Quartet, currently available instrumental parts and recordings vary from the original autograph. This study focuses on historical and theoretical analysis of the work, editorial suggestions, and performance issues. The original autograph is compared to two copyist manuscripts of individual parts as well as two available sound recordings. September startet das Berliner Konzertleben mit dem Musikfest Berlin in die neue Spielzeit 2012/13, veranstaltet von den Ber- liner Festspielen in Kooperation mit der Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker. An 20 Tagen werden in der Phi l harmonie und deren Kammermusiksaal, im Großen Sendesaal des rbb, im Konzerthaus Berlin, in der Akademie der Künste, im Tempodrom, Kühlhaus Berlin und in der Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche 25 Veranstaltungen mit rund 80 Werken von 30 Komponisten präsentiert, aufgeführt von 24 Orchestern, Chören, Instrumental- und Vokalensembles und über 60 Solisten. 2012 ist nicht nur das Jahr der amerikanischen Präsident- schaftswahlen, sondern es jährt sich auch der Geburtstag des gro- ßen, vor zwanzig Jahren verstorbenen amerikanischen Komponis- ten John Cage zum hundertsten Mal. Cage wiederum huldigte 1976 – im Jahr des Bicentennial der Gründung der Vereinigten Staaten – seinem Heimatland mit einer orchestralen Komposition, die er Apartmenthouse 1776 nannte und Seiji Ozawa und dem Boston Sym- phony Orchestra, dem Chicago Symphony und Cleveland Orchest- ra, dem Los Angeles und New York Philharmonic und dem Phi- ladelphia Orchestra widmete. Mit der Widmung von Apartment- house 1776, das die religiösen und musikalischen Prägungen der Gründerjahre Nordamerikas – protestantische, sephardische, indi- anische und afroamerikanische Lieder – versammelt, wurde so die Feier der amerikanischen Gründerzeit zugleich zur Sache der gro- ßen Orchester erklärt. 1976, anlässlich der Bicentennial-Feiern erfolgte auch – in einer Produktion der Houston Grand Opera – erstmals die ungekürzte Aufführung von George Gershwins 1934/35 entstandener Oper Porgy and Bess. »Oh, we’re leavin’ for the Promise’ Lan’, Leavin’ for the Promise’ Lan’«, singt Bess in ihrem Spiritual am Ende des ersten Aktes, den Tod des von Crown erschlagenen Robbins betrauernd.
