The sport car manufacturer developed a solution for this together with the IoT startup PACE Telematics. Afterwards, they are able to complete the payment process within their car. “With cashless fueling, we want to offer comfortable and fast fueling to Porsche customers,” says Sven Maisenbacher, project lead of infotainment development at Porsche, “We’ve shown that the technology works. The next step’s goal is making the solution available to our customers.” Direct connection between car and gas station Through an integrated, digital interface within the car, an automatic connection is formed with the respective gas station system as soon as a Porsche driver stops at a gas station. After the authorization, the fueled gas can simply be payed via the display of the infotainment system. “Our flexible cloud platform is the technological foundation for this system, which can be used within an automobile setting in a straightforward manner thanks to its many programming interfaces. This backend makes a direct communication between Porsche Connect users and cash register systems as well as payment services possible,” says Dr. Martin Kern, founder and managing director of PACE Telematics. -

ABT Sportsline 2021 – Press Release Week 33 70th victory for Team ABT Sportsline in the DTM Kelvin van der Linde has given Team ABT Sportsline its 70th victory in the DTM. Following his victories at Monza and Zolder, the championship leader also won Saturday’s race at the Nürburgring. After the first half of the season, the South African, who lives near Kempten, has a 33-point lead in the drivers’ championship. In the teams’ championship, ABT Sportsline is also at the top of the table after the first half of the 2021 DTM season. Saturday was a picture-perfect day for ABT Sportsline: Kelvin van der Linde secured pole position for the third time this season with a perfect qualifying lap and then celebrated a commanding victory. On the way, he only had to shake twice when late stoppers Timo Glock and Alex Albon put up a massive fight against the ABT driver. The South African stayed cool, grabbed the two opponents and, after crossing the finish line, ordered an ice cream from SAT.1 commentator Eddy Mielke, which was promptly served to him by colleague Andrea Kaiser at the podium ceremony. Walter Kolb accepted the trophy for the winning team. The 73-year-old pensioner from Isny had auctioned a seat at the pit stand of ABT Sportsline for the race at the Nürburgring by donating 6,000 Euros for the victims of the flood disaster in the region. The DTM was the first race event after the flood at the Nürburgring. Before the start of the race, children affected by the flood had visited the ABT Sportsline pit and were even allowed to hold the steering wheel of the eventual winning car in their hands before the race. -

It read as follows: “Johann Baptist Abt takes over blacksmiths and coachworks in Burgstraße, Kempten.” The blacksmith of yore has since developed in ABT Sportsline, the world’s largest automotive aftermarket and performance parts specialist for Audi and VW, one of the most successful international motorsport teams and an innovative electromobility pioneer. The family business is now celebrating its 125th birthday. “Much has changed since the early days – the world, its people, the car, our perspective on things”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. “One thing, however, has remained constant: Our passion for exciting new technologies, adventure and occasional unconventional methods.” The managing partner is the fourth generation, who is in charge of running the company with now 200 employees that has always been based in the heart of the Allgäu region. “An anniversary like always provides the perfect opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you. To my family, our employees all over the world, all of our partners in day-to-day business and motorsport, the fans on the race tracks and of course to our customers, who challenge and inspire us.” The developments are always in tune with the times Sporty cars were not yet on the agenda in 1896, but the “innovative blacksmith” was not short of creative ideas 125 years ago. Johann Baptist Abt developed a skid construction with which horse-drawn vehicles could be optimally converted to “winter operation”. -

We can build on this.” The strong showing at Hockenheim began with a best time set by Nico Müller in the first free practice session on Friday. Accordingly, the Swiss was disappointed when he had to settle for tenth position on the grid in the rain on Saturday and eighth in the first of the two races. “Fortunately, I was able to provide exactly the right response on Sunday and in second place score a podium finish,” said the Swiss. “With three Audi drivers on podium, it was a great day for Audi and a great day for ABT.” Müller pulled off a lightning start on Sunday with which he improved from fourth to second position. Subsequently, he had to let René Rast pass, who drove to victory with a bold two-stop strategy, but Müller decided the duel against BMW driver Philipp Eng for second place in his favor, also thanks to a faster pit stop of his team. -

ABT Sportsline will be running three Audi R8 LMS cars and, together with strong partners, has perfectly positioned itself for the next chapter in the company’s successful DTM history. The race cars of Sophia Flörsch, Kelvin van der Linde and Mike Rockenfeller will be given a striking design that will be instantly recognisable to all of the fans at the track and in front of the television. “We are proud that so many partners are accompanying us on our comeback as a private team in the DTM,” says Harry Unflath, who as Head of Sports Marketing at ABT Sportsline is responsible for marketing all of the motorsport activities of the team from Allgäu. “Together with our partners, engineers, mechanics, drivers and fans, we have a strong package for the DTM. Now, of course, we want to repay the trust placed in us with strong performances and plenty of action off the track as well.” The decision in favour of the Audi R8 LMS as the race car for the DTM entry was a logical one: ABT has been involved in motorsport with the four rings in a wide variety of categories since the early 1990s. “Audi and ABT have a successful history together that has lasted for more than three decades,” says Harry Unflath. “We are now looking forward to the new commitment and support from Audi Sport customer racing.” Most striking is the appearance of automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler, which makes Sophia Flörsch’s entry possible and its colors dominate the design of the 20-year-old German’s Audi R8 LMS. -

The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV rose to the occasion to demonstrate its extraordinary versatility once again in front of a bumper crowd. Formula E’s second Berlin ePrix (Saturday, May 21) – the first to be held in the city’s central Mitte district – took place in beautiful sunny conditions. The 11-turn track, which ran from the Alexanderplatz to Strausberger Platz, was one of the shortest of the calendar at a little less than two kilometres in length, but the two long, relatively wide straights ensured plenty of overtaking opportunities. But while the surface of the city centre’s roads was sufficient for everyday motoring, it featured several portions of repaired asphalt which provided varying levels of grip to keep the Formula E drivers on their toes. Said Serge Grisin, manager of Michelin’s Formula E programme: “The MICHELIN Sport EV has faced many different track configurations since the beginning of the first Formula E Championship but the repeated changes of grip it had to cope with here in Berlin was an entirely new scenario.
