The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV Rises Successfully to a Fresh Challenge in the Streets of Berlin MEDIA INFORMATION FIA Formula E Championship Berlin ePrix (Round 8) The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV rises successfully to a fresh challenge in the streets of Berlin The switch from the abrasive taxiways of the former Tempelhof Airport that Formula E visited in 2015 to the centre of Berlin for the eighth clash of the 2015/2016 calendar provided the championship with a new showcase. The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV rose to the occasion to demonstrate its extraordinary versatility once again in front of a bumper crowd. Formula E’s second Berlin ePrix (Saturday, May 21) – the first to be held in the city’s central Mitte district – took place in beautiful sunny conditions. The 11-turn track, which ran from the Alexanderplatz to Strausberger Platz, was one of the shortest of the calendar at a little less than two kilometres in length, but the two long, relatively wide straights ensured plenty of overtaking opportunities. But while the surface of the city centre’s roads was sufficient for everyday motoring, it featured several portions of repaired asphalt which provided varying levels of grip to keep the Formula E drivers on their toes. Said Serge Grisin, manager of Michelin’s Formula E programme: “The MICHELIN Sport EV has faced many different track configurations since the beginning of the first Formula E Championship but the repeated changes of grip it had to cope with here in Berlin was an entirely new scenario. In theory, the characteristics of the circuit were expected to be similar to those we came across in Paris last month, but the reality was somewhat different. The constant changes of grip meant the drivers had to adapt their driving styles and choose their set-up carefully. There were also lots of tight corners which called for heavy braking, followed by hard acceleration on exit which also had to be taken into account. The drivers were helped in their mission by the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV which is the most versatile tyre to be found in motor racing. Also, the air temperature – which fluctuated between 17 and 25°C over the course of the day – enabled our tyres to get up to their ideal working temperature quickly, which was confirmed by several drivers. It is also important to note that there was little wear here in Berlin, and there was no drop off in performance either, since the fastest race lap was recorded by Bruno Senna in his Mahindra just nine laps from the end.” The 2016 Berlin ePrix was ultimately won by Sébastien Buemi (Renault-e.dams), ahead of Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport’s Daniel Abt and Lucas Du Grassi. Didier Laurent – [email protected] – Phone: +33.6.75.60.50.62 Alessandro Barlozzi – [email protected] – Phone: +33.6.42.23.55.93 The last two races of the 2015/2016 Formula E Championship will take teams to London, England, on July 2-3. After delivering outstanding performance and versatility throughout the first two seasons, the British meeting will be a chance for the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV to conclude the second Formula E championship in style. MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV – technical data Size: Front: 24/64-18 / Rear: 27/68-18 (according to the system employed by Michelin Motorsport, i.e. tread width in centimetres / exterior diameter in centimetres / rim diameter in inches). That’s equivalent to road tyre sizes of 255/40R18 (front) and 305/30R18 (rear), i.e. overall tyre width (mm) / aspect ratio (sidewall-height to tyre-width ratio) / rim diameter (inches). The letter ‘R’ signifies ‘radial’. Because of its tread pattern and size (interior diameter: 18 inches), the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV resembles a road tyre, yet it features technologies that are in the process of being tested before perhaps being used for Michelin’s production tyres in the coming years. Communiqué De Presse 10 JUIN 2017 Mixed emotions for Renault e.dams from Saturday’s Berlin ePrix After poor qualifying results that saw Nico Prost start from ninth on the grid and Séb Buemi fourteenth, Renault e.dams drove a strong first race at the Berlin ePrix doubleheader. Championship leader Séb Buemi took fifth place at the chequered flag, with teammate Nico Prost one place adrift in sixth. Postrace, however, Séb was disqualified for his car failing to comply with the minimum tyre pressure. When the lights went out, both drivers made strong starts but failed to make up any positions on the opening lap. Their mission was then to carve their way through the field, with Séb Buemi first to make progress by overtaking Stéphane Sarrazin on lap 7 to go P12. Nico also saw an opportunity and made a bold move on Maro Engel into Turn 1 to take eighth place. A few laps later, Séb was again on the move and made a manoeuvre stick on the inside of Jérôme d’Ambrosio at Turn 9 and gained another place. Before both drivers made their mandatory car swap, Séb Buemi was in ninth position while Nico Prost was seventh. After a great car change, Prost headed back out on track in sixth. It was not long before Séb was back attacking his rivals and made another confident pass on Daniel Abt for P8. With ten laps to go, the title leader pulled off a superb move on Sam Bird and took P7 before overtaking his teammate for P6.

  • Understanding the Place-Specific Formation Processes of Sustainable Urban Experiments a Mixed Method Comparative Case Study of Formula E
Master’s thesis - master Innovation Sciences Understanding the place-specific formation processes of sustainable urban experiments A mixed method comparative case study of Formula E July 27, 2021 Author: Marius Roeterdink, BSc Student number: 5673127 Contact: [email protected] Supervisor: Dr. J. Hoekman Second reader: Dr. ir. J.C.L Torrens Master’s Thesis – Master Innovation Sciences GEO4-2239X Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University 0 Place-specific formation processes of sustainable urban experiments Abstract Cities are increasingly recognized as frontrunners in the transition to a more sustainable society due to their assembly of technology, resources, population, culture, and economics. This is, amongst others, visible from a global increase in urban actors collaborating to experiment with new sustainable configurations. These so-called sustainable urban experiments, embedded in a broader niche, are not confined to a specific spatial context but will rather emerge in complex ‘place bundles’, forming a global niche. However, the formation of a global niche is interrelated with local experimentation and is thereby locally rooted. A prime example is sustainable motorsports experiment Formula E. Formula E operates on a global scale with numerous multinational companies involved but is set in urban environments and the local regional context arguably influences the formation of such events. In other words, Formula E is a global sustainable urban experiment which is locally embedded. Considerable variation in the way a sustainable urban experiment is formed locally is likely to exist. The objective of this study was to complement strategic niche management and sustainable transitions literature by understanding the specific place-specific factors under which global sustainable urban experiments are formed.

  • The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV Tyre Takes Malaysian Cauldron in Its Stride
MEDIA INFORMATION FIA FORMULA E CHAMPIONSHIP Putrajaya ePrix The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV tyre takes Malaysian cauldron in its stride Free practice and qualifying for the inaugural Putrajaya ePrix took place in bright, sunny weather before cloud cover moved in for the start of the race itself when the temperature reached 33°C, while Michelin’s technical staff reported a track temperature of 45°C. The track was still damp for the early free practice session which ran from 7:45am to 9am local time, and qualifying followed at 10am. The Formula E qualifying format is based on four 10-minute mini-sessions comprising groups of five cars each and the top of the timesheet changed hands several times. After Q2, the order was topped by Germany’s Daniel ABT (Audi Sport ABT), a mere 0.005s clear of Italian driver/team manager Jarno TRULLI. There were changes at the sharp end in Q3, however, when Nicolas PROST (e.Dams-Renault) came out on top after an exciting duel with Oriol SERVIA (Dragon Racing). The Frenchman held firm to win the day, 0.231s ahead of the Spaniard whose Belgian team-mate Jérôme D’AMBROSIO came third, a further 0.205s adrift. The result of Q4 had no influence on the final top placings. The grid order wasn’t identical to that on the timing screens, though, since Nicolas PROST was relegated to 11th spot because of the 10-place penalty he was awarded following his last-turn tangle with Nick HEIDFELD (Venturi) in the championship’s Chinese opener. Meanwhile, Jérôme D’AMBROSIO was dropped to the back of the grid, which meant that the front row was finally shared by Oriol SERVIA and Sam BIRD (Virgin Racing), with Daniel ABT third.
