BLACKFACE SHEEP BREEDERS ASSOCIATION and Branch Fourth Spring Show Held on Thursday 3rd March, 2011 Within Newton Stewart Mart

The Branch of the Blackface Sheep Breeders Association held another very successful and enjoyable night within Newton Stewart Mart, by kind permission of Craig Wilson Ltd. Their fourth spring show of Blackface Sheep, was hailed as a great success with over 76 sheep forward and a record number of 129 members and friends stockjuding the six first place class winners. The judge for the evening was well known and respected Lanarkshire breeder and Blackface Sheep Breeders Association Honorary President Mr Angus Kennedy , Mitchellhill, Biggar. He had the difficult job of placing one of the biggest and best shows of Blackface sheep in the district, which is now out numbering any summer show. The new class of home bred tup hogg proved a great success with 20 hoggs forward. The Champion was exhibited by Messrs W Ramsay and Sons, Milnmark Farm, Dalry, their ewe which is carrying twins by the £7500 Clanary tup is by a homebred sire Dot.Com which is by a £8000 Clennell tup and her dam is 21K Gass.

The reserve champion was from Mr A Paton, Craig, Straiton, their bought in tup hogg by an £2600 Allanfaulds tup which is shared with Knockeen.

A new trophy for the best Gimmer was kindly donated by life long Blackface sheep enthusiast Mr D Baird, Alcaufar, School Brae, Portpartick, this was won by M/s Burns, Craignell, New Galloway.
