WINTER FEATURE FLIGHT: NEBBIOLO With temperatures dropping, we find ourselves drawn to a glass (or more) of one of our favorite robust, complex and expressive red wines. Nebbiolo, which thrives in Piedmont, Italy (and almost nowhere else on earth), offers more range of expression (tar and roses!) than any other major red. Its layers of flavor are only matched by its layers of structure and texture. These are rich and powerful wines, but intensely dry, with plenty of tannin, acidity, alcohol and body. TASTE GLASS BTL 502. Nebbiolo Blend Castello Conti vino rosso del Alto Piemonte L16 Fresh and vibrant style blend from the volcanic soils of Boca in the Alto 6 14 58 Piemonte. Nebbiolo, Bonarda, Vespolina, Barbera and Uva Rara all organically farmed and made with minimal intervention. Alto Piemonte expressions are some of the most elegant in all of Piedmont. 505. Nebbiolo Elvio Cogno “Montegrilli” Langhe, Piedmont, Italy ’17 7 16 72 From one hectare in Barolo, a single vineyard, varietal Nebbiolo made with brief aging in stainless steel tanks. A pure, clean expression of the variety and site. 540. Nebbiolo G. D. Vajra “Coste di Rose” Barolo, Piedmont, Italy ’15 A new wine from one of our favorite, classic Barolo producers. In 2015 the 11 27 135 Vajras were able to produce this wine from a well-situated vineyard in the Comune di Barolo. A must try – as aromatic and pretty as it is structured, powerful and complex.
