Metro, RER, Bus:

● Visit www.ratp.fr for timetables and maps. ​ ​ ● A single metro ticket T+ costs 1.90€, and allows you to travel anywhere inside ​ ​ ​ Paris, over the whole public transport network: metro, RER,Bus. ​ ​ ​ ● Tickets T+ can be purchased singly or in of 10 (“carnet”) for a reduced rate of ​ ​ 14,50€ at the ticket offices or machines in metro stations. ​ ● On the buses, you use the same tickets T+, with no limit of distance. Quartier Latin - -​ ------​ X Latin Quarter is situated in the 5th arrondissement, on the Left Bank around the University​. Known for its student life, lively atmosphere and bistros, the Latin Quarter is the home to a number of higher education establishments besides the university itself, such as École Normale Supérieure​, École des Mines de Paris​, Panthéon-Assas University and​ Jussieu University campus​. On the small streets named after the most significant philosophers and writers of the French Renaissance, you will find a bohemian air, lots of bookstores, emblematic statues, private hotels, arthouse cinemas and theaters. The area (Quartier Latin) gets its name from the Latin language, which was once widely spoken in the University since Latin was the language of learning in the Middle Ages in Europe. ● Bouillon Racine: Beautiful art nouveau decor, restaurant with traditional French ​ food ● Maison Georges Larnicol (19 rue de la Harpe): Pâtissier and chocolatier, winner of the Meilleur Ouvrier de in 1993. ● Odette: featured in the photo is an old boulangerie (Rue Galande no. 77), in a 17th ​ Century building.

Parks:

● Square Viviani: Home to the oldest tree in Paris, a locust tree from 1601. ​ ● Arenes de Lutece: Roman Amphitheater ruins from ancient city of Lutece ​ ● of the Medieval Museum: Gothic architecture and a quiet ​ ● Square Paul Langevin: Magnolia trees and monumental staircase. ​ Jazz bars:

● Caveau de la Huchette: Historical jazz bar from 1947, meeting place for New ​ Orleans jazz fans . Referred to in the Oscar winner movie La La Land. ● Caveau des Oubliettes (52 Rue Galande): Jazz club with an intimate and secretive atmosphere

Charming streets:

● Rue Galande: Timber framed medieval houses and remains going back several ​ centuries. Just look above the doorway of the cinema at No 42 and you’ll see a ​ sculpture of Saint Julien the Poor carved into the stone that dates back to 1380.

Curious spots:

★ Statue of Montaigne, a very famous French author and public figure from the ​ French Renaissance era (1533-1592). It's located at rue des Ecoles, right in front of the entrance of . The statue is stunning (it was made by Paul ​ ​ Landowski during the 20th century), but it has a funny story too: if you look carefully at his right foot, you'll see that his shoe is exceptionally shiny...

➔ Why? Because students believe that touching it before an exam will bear them luck!

Panthéon - -​ - - ​- ​- - - - -​ X Do not miss the neoclassical Pantheon, the architectural treasure crowning Montagne Sainte-Geneviève. The district also includes one of the jewels of Paris churches, Saint-Etienne Church and a lot of concert bars, wine bars and cafés. X ------Monuments-Museums:

● The Pantheon: A commemorative monument and burial place, many famous ​ personalities have their tomb in here. ● Saint-Etienne Church: The whole construction is remarkable. ​ ​ Charming Streets:

● Rue Mouffetard: oldest and liveliest neighbourhood in Paris. Countless ​ ​ restaurants and cafes jostle for room along with the butcher shops, greengrocers, fishmongers, cheese shops and bakeries all along this long.

Curious spots:

★ Foucault pendulum has been installed for the first time at the Panthéon in 1851. ​ Nowadays, an exact copy of the original pendulum is swinging permanently under the dome.

Quartier de l'Odéon - -​ - - ​- -​ ------​ X Hurried or wondering passersby, traffic, light from the cafes, and busy queues outside the cinemas: this is what you will find in the Odéon district at any time of day. The crossroads open onto the Cours du Commerce Saint-André courtyard. With mismatched cobblestones, this passage is home to the vestiges of the Philippe-Auguste enclosure and, between shops and restaurants bristling with traditional signs, the Procope. Théâtre de l'Odéon, a temple from the Age of Enlightenment, which opened in 1792, shines in the centre of Place de l'Odéon. X ------Monuments-Museums: ● Odeon theatre: The King's actors were provided with the first "monument/theatre" ​ in Paris in 1782. It was also the first theatre where the audience in the stalls were seated on benches. ● Church of Saint-Sulpice: The second largest church in the city. ​ ​ Restaurants: ● The Procope (13 rue de l’Ancienne Comédie): Opened in 1688, it is supposedly the ​ ​ oldest cafe in Paris. Large choice of oysters and shellfish. ● Brasserie Lipp (151 Boulevard Saint-Germain): "The beer was cold and wonderful to drink. The pommes à l'huile were firm and marinated and the olive oil delicious." -E. Hemingway

Charming streets: ● Rue Racine: some boutiques, and wine shops ● Rue Lobineau: Marché Saint-Germain, market with beautiful arcades, ​ ​ ● Cour du Commerce Saint-André: courtyard with terraces, bistros, cafés.

Curious spots: ★ Church of Saint-Sulpice: It has a very peculiar asymmetrical facade, the two ​ ​ towers are of different sizes and different architectural styles.

➔ St. Sulpice’s other famous draw is its stunning pipe organ. Noted as one of the finest in the world, the whole structure is more than 20m tall.

Quartier du Luxembourg - -​ - - ​- - -​ - - ​- -​ ------​ X Jardins du Luxembourg with their 23 hectares of immeasurably beautiful flower beds and sculptures; the French also has its home here. Try as well to visit the Musée du Luxembourg and its Orangerie, where palm trees, pomegranate trees and orange trees take shelter in autumn and winter.

There are many more examples of the French capital's architectural heritage waiting to be discovered here, such as the Observatoire, the Institut d'Art et d'Archéologie, Hôpital Val de Grâce or Eglise Sainte-Sulpice. X ------

Museums:

● Monastery of the Val-de-Grâce ● Museum of Luxembourg: First French museum opened to the public, in 1750. ​ Renaissance Art exhibitions.

Food:

● Boulangerie La Parisienne (48 rue Madame): Winner of the Best Baguette of Paris 2016 Contest, designated the official supplier of the Elysée Palace.. ● Maison Georges Larnicol (132 Boulevard Saint-Germain): Winner of the Meilleur ​ Ouvrier de France in 1993, he bakes chocolates, macaroons, fudge, candy, not to mention his specialty, the "kouignette" which is a variant of aman kouign.

Curious spots:

★ Less known Replica of : On the occasion of the Exposition ​ ​ Universelle of 1900, Bartholdi crafted a smaller version of the Statue of Liberty, which was placed in the , where it stood for over a century, ​ until 2014. It currently stands at the entrance to the Musée d'Orsay. ​ ​ ➔ A newly constructed bronze replica stands in its place in the Jardin du Luxembourg.

Montparnasse and Hemingway’s Cafés

------​- -​ - - ​- - -​ - - ​- -​ ------​ X Hemingway loved to walk in Paris. To trace Hemingway’s path across the Left Bank, you have to begin the walk not far from where the young writer and his wife, first established a home on rue Cardinal Lemoine. (He would later establish his second home close to Montparnasse.)

Crossing the Luxembourg Gardens, as Hemingway did on so many occasions, you will make your way towards the infamous quartier Montparnasse. The neighborhood was another hub of artistic life in the 1920s, with its many famous ​literary cafés ​all patronized by “Hem". Entering the café-lined streets, you will end up at one of the most emblematic cafés of them all, th​e ​Closerie des Lilas​. X ------

Jardin des Plantes

- -​ - - ​- -​ - ​- -​ ------​ X A charming public garden and in the heart of Paris. Discover here the most beautiful species of flowers and trees. The grounds of the Jardin des Plantes includes four galleries of the Museum: the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution, the Mineralogy Museum, the Paleontology Museum and the Entomology Museum. In addition to the gardens there is also a small zoo, ​Ménagerie du Jardin des plantes​, founded in 1794 by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre​ ​from animals of the royal menagerie at Versailles. ● La Menagerie: Oldest zoo in the world, created in 1794 ​ ​ ● Natural History Museum ●

Nearby - Teahouse and Hammam:

● Grand of Paris: A favourite place for tea in Paris. Enter the tea house ​ ​ (around the corner from the main mosque entrance) and you’re transported to a lively Middle Eastern-style setting. ➔ The friendly staff will also help you pick desserts that appeal to your particular tastes, baklava or Turkish Delight. ● Turkish baths beckon just past the takeout register, for post-tea relaxation where ​ you can wind down in warm and hot rooms and receive Hammam-style massage and exfoliation treatments (10 minutes for €10; 20 minutes for €20, 30 minutes for €30). ● Arènes de Lutèce: The ancient Roman Amphitheater, a nice park in the heart of ​ ​ Paris with Roman ruins from the ancient city of Lutece

Curious spots:

★ Labyrinth of the Gardens: This vegetal labyrinth is located on a hill. Find your way ​ ​ up to the Gloriette of Buffon: One of the oldest metal constructions in the word designed by architect Verniquet. ➔ This hilltop offers an incredible view of the city.

Quai Saint-Bernard

Museums, Parks:

● Institut du Monde Arabe: Modern building designed by Jean Nouvel, part of the ​ ​ ​ ​ urban development series entitled the "Grand Projets” by President Francois ​ ​ ​ ​ Mitterrand. ● Jardin Tino Rossi (pointed on the map): Open air Sculpture Museum and Park, on ​ the banks, from Institut du Monde Arabe to Jardin des Plantes.

Curious spots:

★ Dancing on the banks of the Port Saint-Bernard: If you wish to enjoy the good ​ weather in a Parisian way, bring some wine and your dancing shoes at Jardin Tino ​ Rossi. Hundreds of dancers gather spontaneously here. ​ ​ ➔ Salsa, tango, swing, traditional Breton dancing, etc. there’s something for all tastes!

Île Saint-Louis

- -​ - - ​- -​ - ​- -​ ------​ X Île Saint-Louis is the smaller of the two islands in the centre of Paris. It is located in the historical centre of the city and is a great place for a walk full of surprises. Stroll along the main road, Rue Saint-Louis en l'Île, or go around the island along the quays. Visitors can admire the numerous former private mansion houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. Foodies will love the delicious ice cream at Berthillon. X - -​ - - ​- -​ - ​- -​ -

Food - Ice-Cream:

● Berthillon: Best ice-cream in Paris. Berthillon is a French manufacturer and ​ ​ retailer of luxury ice cream and sorbet. Ice creams are made exclusively from natural ingredients, with absolutely no chemical preservatives or sweetener.

Île de la Cité

- -​ - - ​- -​ - ​- -​ ------​ X Ile de la Cité, once known as Lutetia, is the oldest settlement in Paris, and boasts more than its fair share of Paris sights: the ​Dauphine Square​, the ​Pont de l’Archevêché ​and Notre-Dame ​cathedral, to name only three. When you’ve finished visiting all the sights, stroll along the banks of the Seine and stop to watch improvised concerts by wandering musicians, for whom this area is a performance venue. Ile de la Cité is also the perfect place for a riverside picnic. X -​ - ​- -​ - - - - - Monuments - Museums:

● Square du Vert-Galant: Green space and ​ ​ viewpoint placed on the tip of the island

● Pont-Neuf: Even if it is called “NEW Bridge”, this ​ is the oldest stone bridge of Paris. Here stands the impressive equestrian statue of Henry IV. ● Don’t miss the 381 different mascarons (the stone masks, each being different and which decorate the sides of the bridge)

Curious Spots:

★ Les Bouquinistes: riverside booksellers, an enormous ‘open-air bookshop’ that is a ​ part of the Parisian landscape, adding to the charm of the Seine riverbanks. They provide a lively atmosphere, cultural attraction, and literary and historic heritage. Located on the Left Bank, from Quai of Tournelle to Quai Voltaire. ➔ Around 217 riverside booksellers with their 'book boxes' have postcards, souvenirs, stamps and many old and modern literary works to discover.

Centre Pompidou

Modern Art Museum: ​ Even if you don’t have the time for a full visit, it worth just sightseeing the intriguing modern architecture by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. Either you love it or you hate it, this high-tech, industrial inspired style is very contrasting with the setting around. Stravinsky Fountain: ​ Perfect place to sit and relax and contemplate the 16 moving mechanical sculptures spouting jets of water that are intended to represent the work of the famous Russian composer.

Brancusi Gallery: ​ This is a free entrance modern sculpture exhibition. The gallery is designed as the original artist’s studio, the artworks are disposed on blocks of contrasting materials, creating mixed feelings: wood with marble, bronze with stone, etc. The exquisite delicate shapes convey the true essence of the subjects by concentrating on highly simplified forms. Subjects inspired by myths, folklore, and "primitive" cultures contrast to the sleek appearance of the works, resulting in a distinctive blend of modernity and timelessness.

Palais-Royal

Monuments: ● Palais Royal and gardens ● Comédie Française: the oldest still-active theatre in the world ​ ​ Shopping: Palais Royal Galeries: These are one of the poshest and trendiest fashion spots of ​ ​ the city, coupled with a romantic stroll. The most iconic fashion designers are here, so it worth going window-shopping for a quick glance on the latest fashion creations. You will find Didier Ludot, the biggest (and over expensive) vintage clothing specialist, by Galerie ​ ​ ​ de Montpensier (n° 31), the Marc Jacobs flagship store (n°34), but also the innovative shoemaker Pierre Hardy, and the dark fashion staples of Rick Owens (n°130-133). ​ ​ Curious Spots: ★ Colonnes de Buren: Located in the inner courtyard, the highly controversial art ​ ​ installation is more than a simple artwork or sculpture, it is a permanent playard for children and adults, a space of sharing and exploration that excites your creativity. ➔ Stop by to take playful photos and have fun climbing on the candy-striped columns.
