How to use the Blio app (Android)

Before you begin, you will need:

• Your library card number and PIN • A Store account

Step 1: Download the Blio app

Step 1: Download the Blio app

1. Open the Google Play Store on your device, search for Blio and install the app.

2. Once installed, open the Blio app by tapping the icon on the home screen.

3. For new users, you will first need to create an account. Tap the Create Account button and enter your name, email address and password. Once completed, it will automatically take you to the home Library screen.

Step 2: Borrow and checkout an eBook using the axis360 Library website

1. Open your browser and go to the Lake Mac Libraries website at http://library.lakemac.com.au and tap the eCollections tab at the top of the page. Tap on the eBooks link. Scroll down the page and tap on axis360 .

2. Search the Magic Wall by tapping the category tabs at the top of the screen, tapping on the category headings, scrolling through the left and right arrows for each category or by typing a keyword in the search box at the top of the screen.

3. Tap the cover of the you want to borrow. To complete the checkout process, tap the Blio button. Tap on Checkout Now . To add this to your account, you will need to sign in using your Blio account details. To continue borrowing more eBooks, tap the Home button at the bottom left of the screen to return to the Magic Wall.

4. If the book you want to borrow is unavailable or on loan, you may reserve a copy. Tap on the book cover. Note the cover will display “Not Available” . Tap the Place on Hold button. You will be asked to login with your library card number and PIN. You will be notified by email when the eBook is available for loan.

5. To navigate around the site, scroll down the page until you see the navigation bar below.

The Home button takes you back to the Magic Wall, Browse let you view the collection by category, App Zone lets you download Blio, Account contains your email address to receive notifications (ensure your email address is up to date), and My Lists will show you all the titles you have on loan or hold.

6. To sign out of your account, tap the down arrow next to the Welcome button at the top right of the screen. Tap the Sign Out button.

Step 3: Download the eBook in the Blio app

1. To download an eBook, open the app by tapping on the Blio icon on the home screen of your device. Your account should be signed in from when you created your new account previously in Step 1: Download the Blio app (page 1). If it is not signed in, tap Sign In and use your email address and password to sign in.

2. The main Library page will be displayed with the eBooks you have checked out to your account. To begin, tap the Download button on the book cover. This may take a few minutes depending on your device and internet connection. Note the book now shows the number of days remaining before the eBook expires.

eBooks can be displayed by book cover (as shown above), or in a list view. Change the way you view the display by tapping the List button represented by the three lines at the top of the screen. eBooks can also be sorted by author, title or recent by tapping on the Menu button at the top right of the screen and then tapping on Sort By .

3. Tap a book cover to begin reading. Turn the page by swiping the screen to the left and right. If you have finished reading, tap the Back arrow at the bottom of the screen. This automatically inserts a bookmark on the page and takes you back to the home Library screen. When you next open this eBook, it will automatically open at the bookmarked page.

4. You can return an eBook before its expiry date. Hold your finger on the book cover for a second until a menu appears. Scroll to the right and tap on Return Book . Tap Yes to confirm. This will remove the eBook from both your device and your account enabling you to borrow another eBook. This may take up to 30 minutes to take effect on the axis360 site.

If you do not return the eBook early, the eBook will be removed from your account automatically at the expiry date, however it may still remain on your device. Hold your finger on the book cover until the menu pops up, and tap Remove from Library to delete from your device.

5. Most in the axis360 collection include a Text to Speech function which allows your book to be read aloud. You can check that a book has this feature before you download it, by making sure that its attributes include Text to Speech Enabled on its detail page in the axis360 site.

To have your book read aloud, tap the cover to open the book, tap the centre of the screen to display the tool bar, then click the Play icon.

If you have not previously downloaded a voice, you will be prompted to purchase one.

Tap Buy TTS voice and follow the prompts to purchase and download a voice. One voice can be used to read all Text to Speech enabled books in your collection. Blio will also highlight each word as it is read and turn the page for you.

6. To sign out of your account and allow someone else to log in and read their books, tap the Menu button at the top right of the screen, then tap Sign Out . All of your books will be removed from the device.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How to use the Blio app (Android)

1. How many eBooks can I borrow?

You can have up to 10 eBooks on loan at one time.

2. How long can I have the eBooks for?

Loans are for a four week period.

3. Can I renew my eBook?

axis360 eBooks can not currently be renewed. If no one has reserved it, you may return an eBook and immediately borrow it again, however it may take up to 30 minutes for the return to take effect on the axis360 site.

4. Can I reserve an eBook?

Yes. You will receive an email notification when the eBook is available for loan. Reservations must be checked out within 5 days. Ensure your account details are up to date.

5. I have finished reading my eBook, can I return the eBook before its due date?

Yes. eBooks can be returned before the expiry date. In doing so, the eBook will be removed from both your device and your account enabling you to borrow another eBook.

6. Am I able to read eBooks on my device?

Yes, providing your eReader supports Adobe DRM ePub files. For a list of supported eReaders, visit: http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/supported-devices

You must set up your eReader according to manufacturer instructions. Connect the eReader via USB cable to your computer, transfer your Adobe ID authorization to your eReader, then transfer books.

Note: Kindle eReaders and Kindle Fire tablets will not accept our files as they only accept the proprietary Kindle format. .
