With John's deep roots in American traditional music, his approach to writing reflects both a simplicity and a layered complexity that creates songs that are always more than they seem. “He is a master at the difficult craft of the ballad,” touted the Boston Globe. “Storytelling with the richness of fine literature,” added the Washington Post. “One of our country’s best songwriters,” said Pete Seeger. Continued on next page - 2 - FMSNY Events Details- Continued As an instrumentalist, John is a master of a dozen different tra- ditional instruments, most notably the rare and beautiful hammer dulcimer. His songwriting has been hailed by critics and singers around the globe. His thirty recordings have garnered every imagin- able honor including seven Grammy nominations. He has produced over twenty albums of other artists - from traditional fiddlers, to contemporary singer-songwriters, to educational and documentary works. His books and instructional materials have introduced bud- ding players to the joys of their own musicality. And his commit- ment to grassroots political organizations has put him on the front lines of many of the issues important to communities and workers.
