Hohner g3t review

Continue SOLD GT3-BK Headless uses a licensed design. This is the lower price of the all- wood version of Steinberger. Most of the original and more expensive are made from their own graphite and carbon fiber blend. My first interest came when I was thinking about buying a I could travel with. Stock GT3 before mods I compared the Hohner GT3 with the Traveler EG-1 Custom and Voyager Transaxe Telair both of which actually cost a little more than the GT3. I felt that these short scale travel were more than one guitar trick and ended up opting for GT3 instead. The GT3 is shorter in length than my Martin Backpacker only about 30 inches long. Pretty amazing for a guitar with 25 1/2 at full scale. I felt that not only bring this on the trip a few times a year, but would play in it on other occasions as well. Hohner G3T-BK (BK for Black) The unfinished guitar is lightweight and quite compact making it great for travel. But much more than a traveling guitar as it is a very cool instrument. It has a maple neck through construction and maple wings, a poly trim, a 24-fret 14-inch radius of rosewood, an HSS pickup configuration and a licensed Steinberger lock tremolo. Controlled with mini switches for each pickup truck, the crane coil for the position , one volume, one tone control and includes an adjustable farm rod and folding leg rest. The C-shaped neck is on the thicker side and feels a bit like my . The weight is a little heavier than I might expect at 5-pound 11-ozs. This is my first unfinished guitar. Maybe not the last one as I really like it. The Steinberger GT3 style reminds me of a shortened Flying V. Almost looks like the illegitimate son of Flying V. Light, small with easy access to 24 frets. What's not to like? and Hohner GT3 are unique guitars designed by Ned Steinberger, a true innovator in the of electric guitars. Tremolo Castle Bridge is one huge feature that make Steinberger owners love their tools. The Hohner GT3 is a budget model that has what is known as the R-Trem, which uses a design more similar to the traditional tremolo edge knife. The Steinberger S-Trem and Trans- Trem bridges are more advanced. Note that not all types of Steinberger bridges are interchangeable and may require a different route. Visit SteinbergerWorld to learn more about the types of bridges on these guitars. The GT3 uses zero fret so open notes have a similar tone as carved notes. Being necked through design makes the guitar quite resonant and gives it support. The guitars are well thought out, but the strings they use.... The first thing you'll learn about Steinberger Steinberger's headless style is that they use double-string ball end (each end of the line has the ball). First, they are expensive and you will be limited to just a few strings of bodies. If you're like me, you're probably your favorite makers and string sets. So the first thing I did was look for a string adapter that would allow the use of standard strings. They can be found on eBay for about $40. But.... Hold on! A string of adapters for bass and guitar - brass or aluminum in comes my new best friends at HeadlessUSA, who educated me at all Steinberger. They offer what I thought was a better more elegant solution. I bought a JCustom Steinberger Combo headgear that allows you to use the ball end and standard strings. Plus there is no sharp end of the line that will stick out like the other lines of the adapter. This headgear simply replaces the stock one with only two screws. The view makes you wonder why not all Steinberger-style guitars had it. I also bought a nice soft concert bag (my GT3 is not a ship with a body) and a guitar stand (as I understood, none of my guitar stands would work with gt3). JCustom Steinberger Combo Headpiece NOTE: Unfortunately, the JCustom Steinberger Combo headpiece ultimately didn't fit my Hohner GT3. I had to return it for a refund. I bought a brass string adapter instead. The headpiece doesn't fit as the screw holes and the plate is not aligned GT3 is a good player and better built than you can expect for a guitar at this price. Solid maple construction makes it a bright sounding guitar. Takes a bit of getting used to, but easier to play than you can expect for its size and shape. The volume of pen placement will be my biggest complaint as it is usually put in the way, but not that big a deal. The GT3, like most comes with folding leg rest for comfortable sitting. The tremolo hand can be mounted on the left or right side of the bridge. They also include belt buttons on both sides as well. Thus, left-handed players are made more desirable. Tuning is certainly done on the bridge and takes a bit of getting used to playing guitar with tuners all these years. Basically, you lock the tremolo, adjust the guitar to tango with the tuners of the bridge. Then unlock the tremolo and check the settings in an unlocked position. There is an adjustment handle on the bridge to adjust the tremolo if necessary. Folding Feet Recreation Passive Select EMG pickups (one humbucker, 2 single reels) that come on this guitar are pretty boring. They are adequate and should probably be expected with a guitar in this price range. These are not the active EMGs you may have heard of. My intention is to eventually swap this for the best pickups. I'm trying to figure out which ones. Thinking Hot Golden Lace Sensors with Double Lace / Blue in the position of The Humbucker or some Seymour Duncan pickups. The back control cavity in this guitar is quite small. 500K mini-sized pots. Size. Pots, switches and capacitors will be a bit of an operation, but quite doable. The easiest swap would be to upgrade pickups for better EMGs, but I choose something different. The plant installation has the action line a little high. Fret's work was decent, but the frets could use a bit of polishing. I'll take care of this and do the fitting on this guitar as soon as I get a new headgear installed. Anyone who wants to buy one of these guitars will see that the Hohner GT3 and Steinberger Spirit GT-Pro (Steinberger owned by Gibson) look very similar. Well, they're both made in the same factory in Korea with only a small difference between these models. I chose Hohner as I liked the mini switch switch more than the 5-way switch on Spirit. The reduced price I paid made the cost about the same. It seems Spirit is keen to sell a little cheaper. GT-Pro ships with a concert bag, but it's low end thin and won't provide the protection you can for any real travel. Steinberger Spirit Deluxe My new friends at HeadlessUSA tell me that Gibson has canceled these guitars and will soon no longer be arriving in the U.S. (at least for a while). Make no mistake, it's a good guitar for the price and great for travel because of its size and shape, but no replacement for the higher-end Steinberger. The other guitar I thought was the Erlewine Lazer guitar (made famous by the late great ) but they are hard to find used and cost a little more than I would like to travel with. Hondo used to make a licensed copy of Lazer (the agreement with Erlewine expired a few years ago), but some of these guitars suffer from quality problems. Even the Hondo I saw sold for $1,000. Updates I removed the double ball end of the line and shares the headgear. I used some steel wool to polish and clean the frets. The fret work from the factory wasn't bad, but the frets were a bit dirty (even on the new guitar) and they needed some polishing. I then used a little lemon oil to treat the rosewood, which looked pretty dry. This process took only about 20 minutes. Gave the guitar some polish as well. Now it looks better. I spent tons of time researching and listening. I ended up deciding on Seymour Duncan pickups - SH-11 Custom Custom Medium Exit humbucker for Bridge, Vintage Rails for Medium and Cool Rails for Neck Positions. It should be a good combination that adds a lot of good tone features and fits well. These pickups usually sound particularly good in bright guitars, and many people use them in strat style guitars. Cool and Vintage Rails are actually that are in the same size and the sound is a bit like the combination between a humbucker and one reel in my opinion. This makes for a quiet guitar with Hum. Very good at listening through headphones when connecting to Amplitube and Guitar Rig on Mac/PC or iPad, as I intend to do when I travel. They will certainly be a big improvement over the stock of pickups. I snatched stock pickups and installed Seymour Duncans. Pretty much straight-line for neck, medium and bridge pickups. Equestrian Seymour Duncan in a Triple Shot pickup ring with a SH-11 Humbucker. I saved the original plant 500K volume/tone pots and capacitor. Mini switches switches will allow a lot of different pickup choices along with The Triple Shot switching this guitar will have many different sound capabilities. Installing Duncan pickups I would adjust the farm rod to get my neck a little straighter as it was more onion than I preferred. The brass string adapter is perfect (unlike the JCustom Steinberger Combo headpiece). Now I was able to mount some of my favorite single ball strings - Elixir Nanoweb 10-42s. Did the setup and action now nicely and low. More in the game and pickups are great, great improvement. The Brass String Adapter installed allows you to use regular strings of one ball Now I'll put stock pickups on eBay and see if anyone likes these more than I do. One worry around the 22 positions is a bit high and needs a bit of alignment. The fret work from the factory was better than I expected for this lower point point guitar. Used a rocker fret, a small file and grinding stick and leveled a few frets that were vert a small amount high and caused a small string of buzz way to the fret. He's playing better now. The folding leg rest I'm waiting for on the new DPTT On/Off/On the mini switches I ordered. This will allow me to wire the middle and bridge pickup with a reversal phase on and off position. Between these mini switches and Triple Shot on the Bridge pickup you can get a mind boggling number of sound selections. Mini Switch Switch (Medium and Bridge): Position 1 - Pickup at Position 2 - Pickup Off Position 3 - Pickup on with Reverse Reverse Phase
