Central headquarters for all of the Hands Together’s Mission in Haiti are located in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. HQ’s are the nerve center for the many facets of the mission spread throughout the country: education, charity, medical help, agriculture, water resources, and cooperatives. Fr. Tom lives at the Port-au-Prince HQ’s, as does Doug Campbell when he is in Haiti. HQ’s are in the Delmas region of the city just south of the international airport. Port-au-Prince and its environs are a vibrant, congested, and sprawling maze of a city. One fourth to one third of all the people of Haiti (10,000,000+) live in Port-au-Prince. With OUTREACH high unemployment, most of the streets are lined with vendors desperate to feed their children and selling anything from Chicklets to bedroom furniture. There seems to be little trash collection, so trash is everywhere, sometimes in huge piles further disturbing traffi c. The core of the city is relatively clean and organized and includes the National Palace site. The National Palace itself was destroyed in the 2010 earthquake and is just now beginning to be rebuilt. Few of the existing traffi c lights are functional and there is a feeling that the city is one huge traffi c jam. It can take two hours to cross from one side of the city to the other. It is estimated that the 2010 earthquake killed 300,000 Haitians, one in every ten persons living in Port-au-Prince. It took over fi ve years to remove the rubble and re-construction is still happening. The city is picturesquely located on the Bay of Port-au-Prince and is backdropped by a verdant mountain where most of the wealthy of Haiti live. That is the Petionville district of Port-au-Prince. Most of the other outskirts of the city are slums, the largest and most desperate being Cite Soleil. Cite Soleil is northwest and contiguous to the city. It stretches all the way to the sea and would be prime real estate in most developed nations. In Haiti, for lack of dykes and embarkments to contain the Cul de Sac river, the entire slum can be under three feet of water during hurricanes and violent storms. It is in this slum that Hands Together operates and brings hope to some of the poorest people on this earth. Next week we will review the mission of Hands Together in Cite Soleil. The week after, we will begin our journey north to visit the second site of Hands Together’s mission: Ti Desdunes. CCyberbullyingyberbullying couldcould bebe affectingaffecting youryour child.child. In the summer, children may be spending more time talking to friends online and sharing status updates on social media, playing games, and more. The internet is a great way to keep in touch with classmates while school is out, but it’s also a place where cruel and bullying behavior can be rampant. Talk to your children about internet safety, and be vigilant about who they communicate with and how they are acting. If your child seems sad or depressed, it could be a sign that bullying is going on. Unlike in school, you can’t walk away from cyberbullying, and harmful messages can be spread quickly. As parents, stay up to date on what sites your children are using, and openly monitor conversations and messages if needed. YCombining12 the somatic approachSR of yoga, and the cognitive approach of 12-step programs.

St. Joseph Center 1524 Fremont Avenue

PARISH HIGHLIGHTS PARISH South Pasadena, CA Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. No charge!

Yoga of 12-Step Recovery is designed to address the physical, mental and spiritual dis-ease of addiction. Addictive behaviors disconnect us from ourselves, our loved ones, our environment and so much more. Conversely, the meaning of yoga is union, integration and balance. Just as the practices of yoga help bring us into right alignment, the 12 Steps help bring us into right alignment with something greater than ourselves.

Informed by the latest research in neuroscience and trauma healing, Y12SR connects the dots by combining the somatic approach of yoga with the cognitive approach of the 12-Step recovery model. ANY/ALL are welcome regardless of your experience with yoga. This group is open to anyone and everyone dealing with their own additive behavior or affected by the addictive behavior of others. Please bring your own mat. We will create a safe, confidential space. 14 For more information contact Jan at: 626.278.2051 GRADUATE BLESSING PARISH HIGHLIGHTS FOR ALL HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL Sunday, June 23rd at 5:30 p.m. Mass

Trinity Ministry seeks to help Holy Family Church provide a loving, spiritual home for young adults and young families.

We are single, engaged, married, divorced, or widowed and in our 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. We are young profession- als, parents, graduate students, single parents, artists, and workers. We cultivate a safe place for everyone to be truly themselves, to connect genuinely through Christ-centered fellowship, and to grow fully by serving others.
