It is located in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province. Established in 1956, the university has now become the largest university in the eastern part of Indonesia. Unhas embraces the vision of developing science, technology, and knowledge, based on the Indonesian Maritime Continent. Such a unique aspiration has led to approximately 32,000 students enrolling in the university, with 1,700 lecturers. Unhas consists of 15 Faculties that offers a wide range of Undergraduate programs and a Postgraduate School. Since 2017, Unhas has accelerated its efforts to raising its International profile by opening International classes in the faculties of Economics, Public Health, and Engineering. PROGRAM OVERVIEW Universitas Hasanuddin International Cultural Program 2019 will facilitate talented and enthusiastic young minds from all over the globe, to engage in an 8-day cultural program in the beautiful city of Makassar, Indonesia. Participants will be exposed to the rich cultures of South Sulawesi through field trips as well as learn an introduction of the Indonesian Language and the traditional dance. Unhas International Cultural Program (ICP) provides international students the opportunity to spend their summer break from university, to visit historical sites and engage with the rich cultural experiences of South Sulawesi, Indonesia. This program features one-week activities where participants can learn Indonesian language and can gain experience in the cultural and academic life in Indonesia. UNHAS INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL PROGRAM 2018 2 The program consists of classroom sessions, cultural night, and field trips to some cultural and historical sites. This field trips not only offers hands-on experience for students but also the opportunity to expand student networks through interacting and sharing their cultural experiences with other international students. Unhas International Cultural Program will become a once in a lifetime experience, offering students a unique, intellectually, and culturally enriching experience in South Sulawesi, the opportunity to meet and network with Indonesian and other international students, as well as the chance to immerse in Indonesian culture and the Indonesian teaching environment PROGRAM COVERAGE This program is free of charge and no application fee is required. Universitas Hasanuddin will be covering most of the needs for the program, including: - All classroom costs - Accommodation for the entire duration of the program - Cultural and social programme - Breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the program - Certificate of participation Despite so, Universitas Hasanuddin will not cover a number of things (the obligation of participants to fulfill), which includes: - Return flights ticket to Makassar - Visa processing fees - Insurance ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - NOT be an Indonesian citizen; - Be at least 18 years old or over; - Enrolled in a Degree / Non-Degree Program of a university, or 2018 or 2019 alumni (fresh graduate) - Be able to write and speak in English; - Have a letter of recommendation from their institution; - Have health insurance. The organising committee reserves the right to determine the list of participants, which will be announced via email on 17 July 2018. Spaces are limited and will be selected by the organising committee of Universitas Hasanuddin. SOUTH SULAWESI TOURISM South Sulawesi (Sulawesi Selatan) is a province that is located in the southern part of Sulawesi Island in Indonesia. South Sulawesi consists of 24 districts namely Toraja, Makassar, Bone, Bantaeng, and others. There are 4 (four) main ethnic groups in South Sulawesi namely Buginese, Makassarase, Toraja, and Mandar. Each ethnic groups in South Sulawesi are famously known for its culture, culinary, traditional ship, and history. South Sulawesi is famously known for its culture, culinary, ship, and history. The capital city of South Sulawesi province is Makassar which is located in the southern part of the province. Universitas Hasanuddin itself is located in Makassar. South Sulawesi Province (red color) is located in the center of Indonesia. You only need to take a 2-hour flight to get to Makassar from Jakarta. Makassar is considered as a metropolitan city in Indonesia with approximately 2.4 million populations. The average temperature in Makassar is 27.5 °C – 32.5 °C. Being the capital city of South Sulawesi province, Makassar serves as the center of economic activities in the province and the largest city in the province. Makassar serves as a perfect destination for tourism because Makassar provides various tourist attractions such as national parks, museums, culinary, sea and water activities. UNHAS INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL PROGRAM 2018 4 Makassar is the capital city of South Sulawesi Province One of the top things to do in Makassar is to taste Coto Makassar and other traditional dishes such as Pallubasa and Sop Saudara. Coto Makassar, one of the famous traditional dishes, is a traditional broth soup with beef and mixed of innards such as livers, lungs etc. Coto Makassar is served with rice cake and can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You will enjoy various traditional dishes of South Sulawesi in the ICP 2018 program. Coto Makassar, the most favorite traditional dish in Makassar. Other favorite activities to do in Makassar are sea and water activities which are located in numerous places. Being located near the sea, Makassar possesses advantages in providing various attractive places and activities for sea and water activities. If you want to go to enjoy the sunset and relaxing by the sea while eating traditional foods stalls, you can go to Losari Beach. Other places to be noted for is snorkeling and diving in Kodingareng Keke or Samalona island which is located 40-60 minutes away from Makassar. You can go to these islands by renting a small boat with a good price. UNHAS INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL PROGRAM 2018 5 The process of Pinisi Boat Production in Bulukumba. Pinisi Boat is a famous traditional boat from South Sulawesi. It had been known since centuries ago as the vehicle used by Bugis-Makassar people to travel until the African Continent. It has become the legacy of Bugis-Makassar people as a maritime society. One of the activities in this program is to visit the place of Pinisi Boat Production in Bulukumba District, continued with enjoying white-sand of Bira beach located in the same district.
