John Abercrombie, an influential jazz guitarist and composer who came to prominence in the 1970s with a lyrical, im- provisatory style that applied the swagger of rock ’n’ roll to the loose rhythms of jazz, died Tuesday at a hospital in Cortlandt, N.Y.
