It provides further details to policies in the Core Strategy, which is the primary source of guidance on planning issues. The SPD is not part of the Statutory Development Plan. However, it forms part of the Local Development Framework and as such will be an important consideration in determining planning applications. The document is intended to support pre-application discussions about development proposals for the regeneration of the former Horwich Loco Works, although it is designed for use throughout the development control process. Applicants are advised to contact the Council to discuss their proposals as early as possible. When, ten days ago, the first copy of the " Evolution of the Steam Locomotive" was ready for sale, I did not expect to be called upon to write a preface for a new edition before 240 hours had expired. The author cannot but be gratified to know that the whole of the extremely large first edition was exhausted practically upon publication, and since many would-be readers are still unsupplied, the demand for another edition is pressing. Under these circumstances but slight modifications have been made in the original text, although additional particulars and illustrations have been inserted in the new edition. The new matter relates to the locomotives of the North Staffordshire, London., Tilbury, and Southend, Great Western, and London and North Western Railways. I sincerely thank the many correspondents who, in the few days that have elapsed since the publication: of the "Evolution of the , Steam Locomotive," have so readily assured me of - their hearty appreciation of the book. rj .;! Lancaster City Museum's Access Statement
Access Statement for Lancaster City Museum This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our visitors. Introduction Lancaster City Museum. The City Museum is prominently positioned in Market Square. It is within walking distance of both the train and bus stations. Lancaster City Museum is a VAQAS Quality Assured Visitor Attraction. It comprises both the City Museum collection, and the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum. The ground floor is completely accessible, and can be reached via the main steps or a ramp which is accessed by the entrance to Lancaster Library. The first floor is accessed by the main staircase. There is a stair lift which is regrettably not accessible to wheelchairs which exceed the weight limit. In the event of an evacuation, wheelchair users will be evacuated using the museum evac chair, by a trained member of staff. For this reason, only one wheelchair can be permitted on the first floor at any one time. A Hearing Loop is available. Pre-Arrival Lancaster Railway station is less than 1 mile away and has a taxi rank situated outside. Both major local taxi services can provide accessible vehicles (see p.5 for details). Lancaster Bus station is less than 1 mile away and the route from the station to the museum is up a mild uphill slope. Pedestrian access to the museum is very good. Car Parking and Arrival There is no parking available on site, due to the city centre location of the museum. -

No. 850 Lord Nelson It’s been a long time coming, but making its debut on Severn Valley metals, prestigious Maunsell-designed express passenger locomotive No. 850 Lord Nelson adds an essence of Southern glamour to proceedings. Visitors Entering service on the Southern Railway in 1926, No. 850 accumulated 1,349,617 miles by the time it was withdrawn at Eastleigh in 1962. Affectionately known as ‘Nellie’, owned by the National Railway Museum, but residing on the Mid Hants Railway, this malachite green locomotive will be a ‘rare cop’ whilst in unfamiliar Great Western territory! Ex-Great Western Railway ‘Hall’ class 4-6-0 No. 4936 Kinlet Hall Only a stone’s throw away from its namesake, No. 4936 Kinlet Hall returns to the Severn Valley after a 4-year absence. Built in 1929, Kinlet Hall was based initially in the Northern Division at Chester and Shrewsbur y sheds, before venturing down to the South West where the locomotive was eventually withdrawn in 1963. ‘Kinlet’ carries the unique distinction of not only being saved from the scrapyard, but also surviving a fall into a bomb crater during a Luftwaffe raid in 1941. -
