sponsored by Welcome... From all of us here at the a big welcome to our Autumn Steam Gala. The timetable for this event is printed in the centre of this brochure. We hope that you enjoy your weekend with us and, to Ex-Southern Railway help you plan your day, you may wish to ‘Lord Nelson’ class 4-6-0 note some of the key features. No. 850 Lord Nelson It’s been a long time coming, but making its debut on Severn Valley metals, prestigious Maunsell-designed express passenger locomotive No. 850 Lord Nelson adds an essence of Southern glamour to proceedings. Visitors Entering service on the Southern Railway in 1926, No. 850 accumulated 1,349,617 miles by the time it was withdrawn at Eastleigh in 1962. Affectionately known as ‘Nellie’, owned by the , but residing on the Mid Hants Railway, this malachite green locomotive will be a ‘rare cop’ whilst in unfamiliar Great Western territory!

Ex- ‘Hall’ class 4-6-0 No. 4936 Kinlet Hall Only a stone’s throw away from its namesake, No. 4936 Kinlet Hall returns to the Severn Valley after a 4-year absence. Built in 1929, Kinlet Hall was based initially in the Northern Division at Chester and Shrewsbur y sheds, before venturing down to the South West where the locomotive was eventually withdrawn in 1963. ‘Kinlet’ carries the unique distinction of not only being saved from the scrapyard, but also surviving a fall into a bomb crater during a Luftwaffe raid in 1941. After the doubtful distinction of being longer under restoration than in service , No. 4936 returned to steam for the first time in preservation during the millennium after 36 years out of service .

Ex-London Midland & Scottish Railway ‘Coronation’ class 4-6-2 No. 46233 Duchess of Sutherland Not only do we have a Lord (Nelson), but now a on the West Coast Main Line express services Duchess makes an appearance at our Autumn Steam between London Euston and Glasgow. Owned by the Gala. Making newspaper headlines in 2013, Metropolitan Railway No. 1 has been a major flagship in the London Underground 150 celebrations and is set to be a star at our Autumn Gala. This diminutive tank engine is of Victorian design and was built in 1898.
