Welcome to another edition of the Bob Cats Newsletter. It's night time in the big city, the West Frisian Funk Gospel Choir intones Swing Low Sweet Chariot inside the decaying ancient Roxy movie house, the timbre and the resonance of hardened voices peeling paint off old tarnished velvet walls, inbedded decades of screams and laughter. The main entrance is boarded up, the sun bleached, flaked off movie posters are of yesteryear’s repertoire, ticket stubs blowing in the wind. A streetcar named Desire goes by, inside a Polish couple scream at each other, he in wife-beater and baggy pants, swinging a Żywiec beer bottle high above his head, she in a dust-coat wringing her apron, staring a hole in the floor, her voice making the straps tingle. The cracked actor walks up and down Main Street in a blue and green Nudie Cohn suit and a pair of brand-new cowboy boots made in Cancún, the pain and the glory, the squeak and the creak, gnarling proof, not yet paid for ending up on a scruffy couch, springs popping, fabric broken, outside the gates of the Black Swan. The night nurse tries but fails to get the boots off, shouting out for another bottle of Manischewitz. Guildenstern, a God’s creation, hair astray, gutted purse looking for a getaway, trembling down a dark end stairway meeting greeny eyes shining in the dark. Rosencrantz, lazy on his back, savouring a grape, touching base with fate and hitty-missy coincidence, sun drenched oak and Chippendale.

Guildenstern, free at last, yawning underneath an awning at the dawning of the day, downing gin and tonic in an Apollonian state of mind, euphoric sound and vision. Rosencrantz, on the run down a willowed colonnade, shoes and coat in arms, the yelping of the corgi pups, commandments of the Lord written in the sky.

Guildenstern, Spanish words and Cuban dance flicker through his mind, moving down the alleyways unto a marketplace in disarray, steals a colonel’s coat. Rosencrantz, huffing hard atop an oak, hundred years of age, sap in rush, foliage in full, a snake’s a curling above his hairy skull.

Guildenstern and Rosencrantz walking down the road, side by side, right on time praising God and nature, blowing smoke rings heaven’s way.
