LESSONS LEARNED AND CONFLICTS HISTORY Historical AND contemporary CONDITIONS FOR communication aviation development IN Poland Krzysztof ZAłęSKI Abstract DOI: 10.26410/SF_2/18/11 This article has presented conditions and criteria which have determined the development of passenger avia- tion.throughout.the.course.of.aviation.history..The.author,. basing upon the statistics data analysis and the histori- cal and contemporary generalisations in the area of avia- tion, assumes that the criteria for aviation development remain unchanged and arise from the operational (com- mercial) needs, existing economic potential, socio-politi- cal situation existing in the country, as well as from the affluence of the society and its willingness to communi- cate and to develop political relationships, business and economic relations with other societies. In the article, the author substantiates the adopted research hypotheses, basing on historical determinants, typical for the history of.Polish.aviation. Abstract Boarding an aircraft, a passenger immediately enters into a different world and encounters a dif- ferent culture. For this reason, airlines are often viewed as national symbols, which is oftentimes strengthened by their names (e.g. Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, Brussels Airlines, Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT or Air Aruba). However, there are also airlines whose names were created in a totally different way (e.g. Transavia, Jetairfly or Bingo Airways). In this paper, I will make an at- tempt at providing the answer to the question of how the names of the airlines functioning in Poland and the Dutch-speaking territories were created and what influence the cultures of those countries had on this name-formation process. The major goal is thus to present the outcomes of a semantic analysis of the names of 113 Dutch, Belgian, Surinamese and Polish (both contemporary and non- existent) airlines. The study will also involve tracing the differences and similarities in the history of the formation of the names under analysis. Design/Methodology/Approach: The Analysis of the air travel segment referring passenger transport in Polish airports is based on available literature, analysis and statistical documentation of the air transport market for the years 2010-2018. Findings: The Polish market of air services continues to be in a state of flux. The pace at which changes occur results from a combination of external and internal factors, which precondition the behaviour of air carriers and customers, and the operation of airports. When analysing air transport development forecast, we can see a further upward trend in the number of activities of all market participants. That said, in the near future we should be expecting an expansion of connections, erection of state-of-the-art infrastructure, new air services, and above all a growth of importance of Poland on the aviation map of Europe.
