DIEGO RIVERA KAHLO OROZCO DAY 1 : Vancouver / City Arrive Airport where you will be met and transferred to your Hotel. Welcome Dinner at Dulce Patria, a traditional Mexican Restaurant. Overnight: Royal Zona Rosa DAY 2 : Zocolo Breakfast. Today we visit the Zocolo, the 3rd largest City Square in the Western Hemisphere, the of Tenochtitlan, former capital city of the , the Cathedral and ’s at the National , providing an understanding of Mexico’s complex history. Today also includes a visit to San Idelfonso, where Diego Rivera painted his first in the 1920’s and attended high school. Overnight: Royal Zona Rosa DAY 3 : Anahuacalli / San Angel Inn / Frida/Diego Studios / Frida Kahlo Museum Breakfast. The day begins with a visit to Anahuacalli, a spectacular Museum conceived and designed by Diego Rivera, to house his amazing collection of Prehispanic Art. Saturdays are special in the south of the City and we will visit charming San Angel, with its cobblestone streets and famed Sabado Arts & Crafts Market, where some of Mexico City’s finest Artists show and sell their work. Time for strolling, viewing and shopping, then relax at the San Angel Inn, a lovely colonial garden restaurant, for Lunch. We visit the Frida and Diego Studios, designed by Juan O’Gorman, where both worked independently, as well as the home where Frida grew up, the Art Studios where she and Diego worked, and the sprawling former Hacienda. Finally, we stop at UNAM, Mexico’s largest University Campus, to view the spectacular O’Gorman Mosaic Murals on the Main Library walls. Overnight: Royal Zona Rosa Day 4 : Historic District / Casa de Azulejos / MUNAL / Palace of Fine Arts / Diego Mural Museum / of Decorative Arts / Seminar at Hotel Breakfast. Today we visit the Alameda Park area, in Mexico City’s Historic District, where we will see architecture of the Porfiriato Era. We then visit MUNAL, Mexico’s premier National Museum of Art, to view late 19th & 20th Century Art. From here, we visit the spectacular Neo-Classical Palace of Fine Arts to see some of the most important Murals in Mexico, such as Diego Rivera’s ‘’, originally intended for Rockefeller Center, but torn down due to its highly political content. We can compare artistic content and technique of the most important Muralists of the 20th Century. We end the day at The Franz Mayer, one of Mexico’s finest Museums for Decorative Arts. Later we will have a Seminar at our Hotel on painting in in 500 BC, before continuing to our Hotel in Teotihuacan, located close to the Archaeological site. We will learn how paint was made from nature, and how the indigenous people used painting as a universal language, and to paint on stone. Overnight: Villa Arqueologicas Day 5 : Teotihuacan / Atetelco / Tetitla / Tepantitla Breakfast. Today we will see what we learned at the Seminar when we visit the City of Teotihuacan and see the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, connected by the Avenue of the Dead. We will also visit three neighborhoods: the Atetelco (Warrior School), with its mural paintings related to war in Teotihuacan. Next is Tetitla, a neighborhood where people of high status lived and where we will see paintings related to various Gods, with the most representative being ‘The Jade God. Finally, Tepantitla, where we will see the painting known as the `Tlalocan`, a mural that has been interpreted as the ‘Paradise of Tlaloc’. Overnight: Villa Arqueologicas Day 6 : Mexico / Queretaro / San Miguel de Allende Breakfast. Depart for Querétaro where we will visit the Aqueduct, Ex-Cross Convent and Historic Downtown, before heading to San Miguel de Allende, with its thriving Arts Community. Visit: San Miguel Parish, Holy House Chapel, Inquisitor House, Church of San Francisco and the ‘Allende’ House. San Miguel offers an excellent selection of Cafes and Restaurants. Overnight: Real de Minas Day 7 : San Miguel de Allende / Breakfast. Depart for Guanajuato, home of the Annual International Cervantino Festival. In the afternoon we will enjoy exploring this wonderful City, with its beautiful Colonial Alleys and Plazas, such as the University, Juarez Theater, Kiss Alley, and Diego Rivera’s house, to see the sketches for many of his paintings. The streets and subterranean avenues of Guanajuato are one of a kind in Mexico. Other attractions include the Alhóndiga de Granaditas Museum, the Museum of Quixote and Mommies Museum. Possibility to enjoy the ‘Callejoneada’, a picturesque, folkloric event performed at night several times a week, in the narrow streets by local student bands, usually dressed in 17th century Spanish costumes` singing popular songs of the legends of Guanajuato. Overnight: Mision Guanajuato Day 8 : Guanajuato / Zacatecas Breakfast. Depart for Zacatecas, a World Heritage Site. This beautiful Colonial city of ‘Pink Cantera’ stone has the most outstanding Mexican Baroque style Cathedral. From ‘La Bufa’ Hill you will enjoy a panoramic view of the City from where we will descend by Funicular, for an educational visit to the Mine of Eden. Zacatecas has much to offer culturally, visiting a Gallery dedicated to Catholic painting as well as the Goitia Museum to see its rich collection. In the evening you may enjoy the ‘Callejoneada’, a musical performance with a ‘Tambora’ group. Overnight: Emporio Zacatecas Day 9 : Zacatecas / Guadalajara Breakfast. We continue to Guadalajara, the Capitol of the State of Jalisco, and home of Tequila and Mariachi. We visit Tlaquepaque Town, known for its fine handcrafts. Time permitting, we will stop at a traditional Mexican Restaurant for Lunch and to enjoy Mariachi music. We will visit the principal points of interest: with its splendid Murals of Orozco; Plaza Tapatia; Degollado Theater; Cathedral; Rotonda of the Illustrate Men; and Hospicio Cabañas, a neo-classical building, emblematic of Guadalajara, housing preserved Murals of José Clemente Orozco. In 1997, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage. Overnight: De Mendoza Day 10 : Guadalajara / Morelia Breakfast. Our first stop is the magical town of Pátzcuaro which, in the Purépecha language, means ‘Heaven’s Door’. Pátzcuaro is famous for its colonial beauty and uniqueness of its customs. Attractions include the Basilica of Our Lady of Health, House of the Eleven Patios, and Historic Downtown. We continue to the lovely City of Morelia – known not only as the ‘City of Lights, but also the ‘Pink City’. Its spectacular Cathedral is widely considered one of the most beautiful Catholic Churches in Mexico. Morelia offers many fine traditional Cafes and Restaurants. Overnight: Hotel Casino Day 11 : Morelia / Mexico City Breakfast. Morelia is a World Heritage Cultural City, recognized for its environment and magnificent Colonial construction of Pink Cantera stone. Attractions include: The Cathedral, Government Palace; Clavijero Palace; Plaza Mayor, Street Market, Aqueduct, and Temple Gualupita in the Convent San Diego. Depart for Mexico City. Evening: Farewell Dinner with Méxican Show. Overnight: Royal Zona Rosa Day 12 : Monday, December 17 : Mexico City / Canada : Breakfast. Transfer to Airport at required time. NOTE: In San Miguel de Allende, Zacatecas and Morelia, we will have up to 3 Hours in the afternoon, daily, for Outdoor Sketching and Painting with our Artist Guide.
