Since your last notes you have picked up another two wins in the League over Huntly and Strathspey Thistle. How did you assess the performances in both games?

After the euphoria of the cup final win, we were swiftly back in to league duty against an in form Huntly side. I made a few changes to freshen up the squad as this was something I felt we had to do to keep the fitness levels high. To be fair we played some very good football, especially in the first half and went on to comfortably see the game out. Strathspey Thistle was next and for as long as I can remember, it has never been easy to win up there. I told the guys that all I wanted was a result at the end of the day and thankfully the guys put in a shift It was a great result for the club. We knew who we and we again won to keep up our excellent run. In both would face in the next round before the game so I used games, I felt we were dominant which is a very good that in my favour. The game itself was great for the sign as it shows that the guys are focussed on every neutral with Turriff probably edging the first half with game and have not allowed out standards to slip. us controlling the second. Considering the majority of the lads played 120 minutes on the Wednesday it was a That was followed up by progress in the great shift. They all worked hard for the win and against Buckie Thistle on deserved the late winner. Now they get to experience penalties. How pleasing was the performance given playing a top side away from home in the next round of you rested several players for the Scottish Cup game? the Scottish Cup. I am sure it will be a great day for everyone involved. I have to give credit to Graeme and Buckie as in the first half we were outplayed. What are your expectations over the clear cut chances and probably should have scored in next couple of weeks before the massive game at normal time but it wasn't to be. I actually did not rest Falkirk? any players as they were carrying wee knocks. I brought in a couple of younger guys to start and they showed no It will be another hectic month but I wouldn't change fear. I trust the young guys as they are all eager to that. The fact that we are playing so many midweek impress. Special mention to Bailey Simpson who games is down to our success in the cups so in that sense managed 120 minutes after playing on the Tuesday also. it is a small price to pay. Every game in the league is Great potential. tough. There is no such thing as an easy game. Match Report Vs Huntly

Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League, Wednesday 14th October 2015, Fraserburgh v Huntly, Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh

Early corner for the Broch into near post forced wide by Steven Davidson. The Broch went ahead on 5 minutes when Ryan Cowie picked the ball up 35 yards out and hit a screamer which hit the underside of the bar and bounced over the line.

On eleven minutes Steven Davidson crossed to the back post where he found Graham Johnston he chipped the ball back into the centre but Aidan Combe’s header was straight at keeper Fraser Hobday.

A couple of minutes later Johnston swung a free kick dangerously into the penalty box but Hobday did well to parry the ball to safety. A minute later Stuart Taylor played ball down the left to Davidson who shrugged off his marker and fired in a shot which the keeper did well to save.

On 25 minutes Graham Johnston played in a corner to the near post which was cleared out to Willie West, his overhead kick hit the bar and Russell McBride’s shot went over the bar.

A minute later another Johnston corner was met by Willie West who headed home from 6 yards out. On 32 minutes Ryan Christie found Cowie with a raking pass and his cross was met by Lawrence but Hobday was equal to the task. Huntly finally had an effort at goal on 34 minutes when Aaron Scoular picked the ball up 25 yards out but shot over the bar.

Two minutes later Joe Barbour’s long ball forward was missed by the Huntly defence and Johnston ran through to slot the ball home. The Broch went 4-0 up on 39 minutes when Ryan Cowie’s free kick was missed by everyone and went past Hobday into the net.

Half Time: Fraserburgh 4 Huntly 0

The visitor’s night got worse as keeper Hobday was called to the referee’s dressing room and shown a red card for an incident as he left the field of play for half time. This on the back of manager Gregg Carrol being sent to the stand in the first half for words said to the assistant referee.

The Broch kept up the pressure on Huntly and Johnston fed Bruce but his effort drifted wide. Huntly had a chance a minute later when Adam McNamee latched onto a through ball but Barbour saved well. Just before the hour Ryan Cowie crossed to the back post where Courtney Cooper controlled the ball but blasted his shot well over.

Huntly were trying to get back into the game and a shot by Gary McNamee was saved before Lawrence gave away a free kick which JJ Urquhart took but Barbour was equal to the task. The Broch almost made it 5-0 but Cooper’s effort was blocked after Johnston had set him up. On 70 minutes the Huntly goal survived a major let off when after a stramash efforts by Lawrence, Johnston and McBride were all thwarted by the visitors defence.

A minute later Johnston swung in a corner which was palmed away by the keeper but Ryan Cowie returned the ball to the box where Cooper managed to slot home to make it 5-0. It was 6-0 on 76 minutes when Lawrence was barged in the box by keeper Pennycook. Johnston took the kick and made an immaculate job of the penalty. The Broch had one last chance when Jordi Walker crossed for Lawrence but his effort was saved.

The home side had the first chance after 10 minutes when Jack Maley played the ball behind the Broch defence to Adam MacLeod and he rounded Barbour before slotting the ball home despite Stuart Taylor’s desperate efforts to clear.

The Broch then created a chance on 13 minutes when Grant Noble crossed from the right but Graham Johnston’s header was blocked.

The equaliser came on 20 minutes when Noble played the ball to Johnston and he slipped in Marc Lawrence who crashed the ball past the keeper from just inside the box.

Three minutes later Noble beat his marker on the right wing and crossed into the Strathspey box where John Chalmers picked up the ball six yards out but he sidefooted past when it seemed easier to score.

On 24 minutes the Strathspey box resembled a pinball machine with Johnston and Lawrence both trying to get the ball on target but the ball wouldn’t fall kindly for either.

Adam MacLeod almost regained the lead for Strathspey but his effort from distance was well saved by Barbour.

On 38 minutes a long ball forward by Barbour found Johnston and he laid the ball back to Chalmers but his effort was once again saved by MacCallum.

Half Time: Strathspey Thistle 1 Fraserburgh 1

Two minutes after the break Johnston swung a great ball into the box which was met by Ryan Christie but his header was off target.

Six minutes later James Mackay picked up the ball 25 yards out and let fly but his shot went past the post.

Just before the hour Ryan Cowie and Grant Noble combined to set up the latter but his shot from inside the box went past the post.

The Broch took the lead on 60 minutes. Graham Johnston tricked his way past the defender and fired a shot which was deflected over. From the resultant corner kick Ryan Cowie’s cross was met by Ryan Christie who bulleted a header home to make the score 2-1.

On 73 minutes Graham Johnston and Dean Cowie combined to send Ryan Cowie free on the left and his cross into the middle was met by Lawrence but he lifted his shot over the bar.

Strathspey had one final chance to pick up a point when Stuart patience dribbled past a couple of Broch defenders but Joe Barbour did well to save the shot.
