Applications may be inspected free of charge at the Office of the Traffic Commissioner in Leeds by any person who carries written authorisation to act in that capacity. Objections against published applications may be made in writing by a Chief Officer of Police, a local authority, a planning authority or a prescribed trade union or association within 21 days of the date on which notice of an application is published in Applications and Decisions. Objections must be made either on the grounds that any of the requirements listed in Section 13 of the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995 are not met and/or that a nominated operating centre will be unsuitable for use as such. A copy of the objection must be sent by the objector to the applicant at the same time that it is sent to the Traffic Commissioner. The onus of proof in terms of the grounds on which an objection is lodged lies with the objector. You may fax a copy of your objection to 0113 2488521 but please note that you must send the original signed document through the post. Classification of Operator Licences – There are three classes of licence: A Restricted (R) licence authorises the use of a goods vehicle on public roads in Great Britain for the carriage of the licence holder’s own goods in the course of his trade or business. The licence holder cannot carry goods for other people for hire or reward; A Standard National (SN) licence allows the licence holder to carry both his own goods and goods for other people for hire or reward, on public roads in Great Britain. He can also carry his own goods on journeys abroad; A Standard International (SI) licence allows the licence holder to carry both his own goods and goods for other people for hire or reward. These activities can be undertaken both in Great Britain and on international journeys.     S E C T I O N 9 A Parishes and Congregations: names no longer in use The following list updates and corrects the ‘Index of Discontinued Parish and Congregational Names’ in the previous online section of the Year Book. As before, it lists the parishes of the Church of Scotland and the congregations of the United Presbyterian Church (and its constituent denominations), the Free Church (1843–1900) and the United Free Church (1900–29) whose names have completely disappeared, largely as a consequence of union. This list is not intended to be ‘a comprehensive guide to readjustment in the Church of Scotland’. Its purpose is to assist those who are trying to identify the present-day successor of a former parish or congregation whose name is now wholly out of use and which can therefore no longer be easily traced. Where the former name has not disappeared completely, and the whereabouts of the former parish or congregation may therefore be easily established by reference to the name of some existing parish, the former name has not been included in this list. Present-day names, in the right-hand column of this list, may be found in the ‘Index of Parishes and Places’ near the end of the book. The following examples will illustrate some of the criteria used to determine whether a name should be included or not: • Where all the former congregations in a town have been united into one, as in the case of Melrose or Selkirk, the names of these former congregations have not been included; but in the case of towns with more than one congregation, such as Galashiels or Hawick, the names of the various constituent congregations are listed.

    B BAIKIE, Dave 1954- Arbroath June 1997-Sep 19th 2000 Cowdenbeath Oct 11th 2004-Aug 3rd 2005 East Fife Apr 8th 2006-Apr 14th 2009 Honours: 3rd Division promotion 1997-98, 3rd Division Champion 2007-08 After a career as a player and manager in the Juniors Baikie was an initial success at Arbroath, winning the club’s first promotion since the 1970s. He resigned when the board refused to sanction a signing he thought had been agreed. He returned to the Juniors but was lured back by Cowdenbeath. His resignation came after admitting an assault outside a Dundee pub on the father of one his former players, which left his victim, scarred and visually impaired for life. He was ordered to perform 300 hours community service, pay his victim £3,000 compensation and told he was lucky to escape a jail term. After another stint in the Juniors Baikie returned as East Fife manager and led the club to the 3rd Division title in 2008. He quit somewhat surprisingly towards the end of the 2008-09 season to return to the Juniors once again. BAIN, John 1923- Meadowbank Thistle 1974-1976 Honours: None Bain first got involved with the then Ferranti Thistle in 1952 when they were playing on a public park. Under his management they climbed to the East of Scotland League and won the Qualifying Cup. In 1974 an Edinburgh journalist suggested to Bain that the club should apply for the newly created vacancy in the Scottish Football League. Much to his (and everyone else’s) surprise they were successful though the SFL insisted they change their name.

During Scottish football’s formative years, however, the ascendancy of the Old Firm was far from set in stone. The exhaustive study of these two extraordinary organisations, therefore, greatly distorts our understanding of Scottish football’s Victorian origins. Both clubs were part of a far greater scene which included not only fellow ‘senior’, well-established clubs, but also any number of ‘junior’, ‘juvenile’ and non-classified football clubs, as well as fledgling associations which oversaw the regulation of the young game.

MARYHILL FC - A SHORT HISTORY The club were formed back in 1884 when the district of Maryhill was a semi rural settlement on the outskirts of Glasgow. In the earliest years of the club's history the side had a brief flirtation with senior football, entering the Scottish Cup on several occasions, but the majority of our existence has been in the Junior grade. Having moved ground several times in its formative years, the club has called Lochburn Park its home since the latter years of the 19th century. Originally one of Glasgow's more basic football venues, an extensive upgrading programme in the 1990s transformed it into one of the premier stadia in the Junior game, regularly hosting local and regional finals. Over the years the Hill have won a long list of honours, bringing the "Holy Grail" of the Scottish Junior Cup back to Lochburn on two occasions; the first win being in 1900 (1-0 v Rugby XI at Shawfield) and the second in 1940 (1-0 v Morton Juniors at Hamoden). The club enjoyed its most recent sustained period of success in the years around the Millennium, with back to back league titles secured whilst also reaching three Junior Cup semi-finals although on all three occasions we fell at the penultimate hurdle. Many great players have worn the red and black over the years; many never took the step up to the senior game, but among those who did were the likes of Tommy Burns, Danny McGrain, Davie Meiklejohn and Alex Harley.
