One of the most dangerous things we have to deal with is pyrotechnic articles such as smoke bombs and flares in the stadium and we'd ask that you assist us to look after you by not bringing such articles with you to matches. These articles can cause severe burns, damage to hearing or breathing difficulties and their use is especially distressing for groups such as small children and those who can't easily move away when pyrotechnics are activated. Experience shows that when a pyrotechnic is activated in a crowd there is often a movement away from the immediate area which can cause panic and disorientation and which creates a risk of slips and trips or crushing for those nearby. Please be in no doubt that these articles are unpleasant and potentially life- threatening to be around - they are also illegal at football matches - and being caught with them will result in exclusion from Queen’s Park FC as well as a possible criminal conviction. 6 7 RAY McKINNON I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone at Albion Rovers ahead of our game today. We are delighted to finally have our first home game having been on the road for the first three games of the season and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to play at Hampden. We know Albion Rovers will be out to make things difficult for us as they look to bounce back from what will have been a disappointing result for them last week. We are also looking to build on last week’s match at Stirling Albion where the outcome was not what we wanted. It’s hugely important for us that our home form is good this season, we know that teams enjoy coming to play at Hampden so there is an onus on us to make that as difficult as possible for them. Home form will be very important to us over the course of the season and it’s vital that we use Hampden to our advantage on Saturday and every other home game that follows. We had the opportunity to train at Hampden on Thursday which went very well. It allowed the players to get an idea of what the surface is going to be like ahead of the game and it was a session that the squad really enjoyed. Enjoy the game! • Playing Rugby for Jordanhill College Rugby Football Club 1958
Playing Rugby for Jordanhill College Rugby Football Club 1958 - 1966 John Henderson ‘The Boot’ Remembers Playing Rugby for Jordanhill College RFC ‘The Boot’ Remembers When I first matriculated in October 1958 at the Scottish School of Physical Education, Jordanhill, Glasgow to undergo a three year diploma course of training in order to qualify as a teacher of Physical Education, I had no idea that some years later my senior rugby career would turn out to be as creditable as it did. Although I knew then that I was a very accurate and lengthy instep place-kicker of a rugby ball, I was under no illusion that my getting a place in the Jordanhill College Rugby Football Club top squad would be easy, nor did I have any notion then that retaining a first choice spot in the 1st XV for a good number of seasons might possibly occur. However, I was aware of the fact that graduating from College was not the end of the opportunity to play senior rugby for Jordanhill, as former students as players were not only considered eligible, but were also deemed essential in order to maintain a fighting chance for coach Bill Dickinson‟s side to compete at the highest levels possible in Scotland. Thus time was on my side, if only I was patient, and prepared to work hard at the game. But first I had, during my student days, to convince mentors Bill Dickinson and George Orr of my potential, and then, if this was accomplished, to provide consistent proof thereafter of my continuing value as a full back/three-quarter and place kicker in the top side in its annual attempts to win the Scottish Unofficial Club Championship and the Glasgow District Knock-Out Trophy.

As well as a lot of awful footballer autobiographies. In this crowded market it’s important to try to make your book leap from the crowd like Sergio Ramos at a corner and demand attention. A catchy, interesting title can help significantly with that. On the other hand, if you’re a footballer, you’re already instantly recognisable to anybody who might buy and read it anyway, and you have access to a loyal fanbase that consistently proves itself willing to part with hard-earned money for any old rubbish they are served up (bad performances, third kits, club shop tat etc.), so why bother? And not bothering is very much the watchword for many players who clearly think that a nice snap and a simple title will do. Hence the plethora of ‘My Story’, ‘My Life in Football’ or ‘My Autobiography’ efforts clogging up the shelves. Surely we can do better than that? We’re not saying everyone needs to call their book Snod This for a Laugh,1 but come on.
