E-mail: Abstract: We present an inventory of amphibians and reptiles of San Isidro de Dota, northwest of the Cordillera de Talamanca in the Central Pacific of Costa Rica.Leptodactylus The study was insularum conduced from January to August 2012 in premontane wet Coloptychonforest from 689 rhombifer m to 800 m elevation. We found a total of 56 species, including 30 species of amphibians and 26 of reptiles. It results striking the presence of the frog , uncommon above 400 m elevation, and the lizard , a very uncommon species. Diet is an important aspect of the ecological niche, and assemblages are often structured based on the ways food resources are partitioned among coexisting species. However, few works investigated the use of food resources in anuran communities in the Brazilian Cerrado biome. Thereby, we studied the feeding ecology of an anuran assembly composed of six terrestrial frog species in a Cerrado protected area. Our main purpose was to detect if there was a structure in the assemblage based on the species’ diet, in terms of the feeding niche overlap and the species’ size. All specimens were collected by pitfall traps placed along a lagoon margin, during the rainy season. We collected six frog species: Elachistocleis cesarii (172 individuals), Leptodactylus fuscus (10), L. -

DRAFT FINDING OF NO SIGNIFIGANT IMPACT (FONSI) RIO GRANDE CITY STATION ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT, RIO GRANDE CITY, TEXAS, RIO GRANDE VALLEY SECTOR, U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY U.S. BORDER PATROL, RIO GRANDE VALLEY SECTOR, TEXAS U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY WASHINGTON, D.C. INTRODUCTION: United States (U.S.) Customs and Border Protection (CBP) plans to upgrade and lengthen four existing roads in the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Rio Grande City (RGC) Station’s Area of Responsibility (AOR). The Border Patrol Air and Marine Program Management Office (BPAM-PMO) within CBP has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA). This EA addresses the proposed upgrade and construction of the four aforementioned roads and the BPAM-PMO is preparing this EA on behalf of the USBP Headquarters. CBP is the law enforcement component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that is responsible for securing the border and facilitating lawful international trade and travel. USBP is the uniformed law enforcement subcomponent of CBP responsible for patrolling and securing the border between the land ports of entry. PROJECT LOCATION: The roads are located within the RGC Station’s AOR, Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector, in Starr County, Texas. The RGC Station’s AOR encompasses approximately 1,228 square miles, including approximately 68 miles along the U.S.-Mexico border and the Rio Grande from the Starr/Zapata County line to the Starr/Hidalgo County line. From north to south, the four road segments are named Mouth of River to Chapeno Hard Top, Chapeno USIBWC Gate to Salineno, Salineno to Enron, and 19-20 Area to Fronton Fishing, and all of these segments are located south of Falcon International Reservoir (Falcon Lake), generally parallel to the Rio Grande. -

E-mails: [email protected] (*corresponding author); [email protected]; juniorvalerio19@gmail. com; [email protected] Abstract: Herein, we present an updated inventory and the variations of frog communities’ composition from five areas of humid Chaco and Cerrado in municipality of Porto Murtinho, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil. This municipality is located in an area with three ecoregions: Chaco, Cerrado and Pantanal. Through acoustic and visual nocturnal/diurnal and pitfall evaluations from a period of over five years, we recorded 31 species in the Cerrado and 29 species in the humid Chaco. About 90% of the species were previously registered in the municipality of Porto Murtinho. A non-metric multidimensional analysis based on a presence/absence matrix revealed a separation in our sampling sites and communities with Cerrado and humid Chaco characteristics. This peculiarity in the species composition must be related to the transition zone, with the presence of mixed species characteristics of Cerrado and humid Chaco in both areas in the municipality of Porto Murtinho experiences a high degree of deforestation pressure, which threatens both the Cerrado and humid Chaco vegetation. -

Diet and natural history notes of Leptodactylus laticeps (Anura: Leptodactylidae) in the Gran Chaco of Paraguay THOMAS ZIEGLER Zusammenfassung Ernährung und Lebensweise von Leptodactylus laticeps (Anura: Leptodactylidae) im Gran Chaco Paraguays. Es werden Freilandbeobachtungen zur Lebensweise von Leptodactylus laticeps im Gran Chaco von Paraguay vorgestellt, die im Rahmen faunistischer Studien in der Regenzeit erfolgten. Neben Angaben zu Habitat, Abmessungen, Eiergröße und -zahl, liegt der Schwerpunkt dieses Artikels auf der Ernährungsökologie. Sowohl Magen-, als auch Darminhalte von 26 eröffneten subadulten (mittelgroßen) bis adulten L. laticeps aus der paraguayischen Oberen (Trockenen) und Unteren (Feuchten) Chaco-Region wurden getrennt voneinander analysiert. Insgesamt befanden sich unter den erkennbaren wirbellosen Beuteresten (in absteigender Anzahl) Termiten, Käfer (u. a. Curculionidae und Scarabaeoidea), Schaben, Tausendfüßer, Hautflügler (Ameisen und eine Wespe), Springschrecken, Spinnen (darunter eine au sgewachsene männliche Vogelspinne) und Wanzen; unter den erbeuteten Wirbeltieren befanden sich sechs Frösche (zumindest vier davon Bufo granulosus) und eine Maus. Die Ernährungsökologie der A1i wird unter besonderer Berücksichtigung vertebrater und giftiger Beutetiere diskutiert. Abstract Field observations on the natural history of Leptoclactylus laticeps made during faunistic studies in the rainy season in the Gran Chaco of Paraguay are presented. Besides information on the habitat, measurements, and egg size as well as egg number, this paper focuses on feeding ecology. The native species of amphibians and reptiles of Uruguay were categorized according to the IUCN Red List criteria. Out of 47 amphibian species, seven are listed as Critically Endangered (CR), five as Endangered (EN), one as Vulnerable (VU), three as Near Threatened (NT), and two as Data Deficient (DD); the remaining species are considered to be Least Concern (LC).
