Ove Andersson OVE ANDERSSON Ove Andersson a débuté sa carrière de pilote à l'âge de 20 ans, en 1958. Jusque là employé en tant que mécanicien dans un garage, il décide avec un ami de préparer une Saab pour participer à ses premiers rallyes. De bons résultats lui valent progressivement de devenir un pilote officiel de Saab. En 1965, mécontent de sa situation chez Saab, il rejoint l'équipe officielle Lancia avec laquelle décroche ses premiers succès dans des épreuves internationales. Il pilote ensuite pour Ford ainsi que pour l'écurie française Alpine, avec laquelle il remporte en 1971 le Rallye Monte-Carlo, le San Remo et l'Acropole. Toujours chez Alpine en 1972, il termine 2 e du Monte-Carlo en étant copilote par Jean Todt). Courant 1972, Andersson est contacté par Toyota pour piloter une de leurs voitures à l'occasion du RAC Rallye. L'accord entre le Suédois et Toyota va bien plus loin qu'une simple relation pilote employeur puisque Andersson monte sa propre structure, le Andersson Motorsport (qui deviendra le Toyota Team Europe en 1975 lors de son déménagement à Bruxelles), chargée de la préparation et de l'engagement des voitures japonaises. La première victoire du TTE intervient en Finlande, à l'occasion du Rallye des Milles Lacs remporté par Hannu Mikkola sur une Toyota Corolla. Parallèlement, Andersson poursuit sa carrière de pilote et remporte ce qui sera sa seule victoire dans le championnat du monde, au Safary Rallye sur une Peugeot 504. Dans les années 1980, Andersson abandonne sa carrière de pilote pour se concentrer sur la direction du Toyota Team Europe qui quitte Bruxelles pour s'installer à Cologne en Allemagne. Au début des années 1990, le TTE s'affirme comme la meilleure équipe du championnat du monde et offre à Toyota plusieurs titres mondiaux avec Carlos Sainz, Juha Kankkunen et Didier Auriol. Mais la période de domination de Toyota s'achève en 1995 lorsque l'écurie est reconnue coupable de tricherie (les Celica utilisaient des turbos ne répondant pas au règlement technique) et est exclue du championnat du monde. En 1997, Toyota confie au TTE d'Andersson l'engagement de la marque aux 24 heures du Mans. Malgré une voiture reconnue comme la plus performante du plateau (la Toyota GT One), il s'agit d'un échec pour Andersson puisque la victoire échappe à Toyota tant en 1998 qu'en 1999. Comme pressenti de longue date, les 24 heures du Mans servent également de répétition à Toyota pour s'engager dans le championnat du monde de Formule 1. À nouveau, le programme est confié au Toyota Team Europe, mais signe de la perte d'indépendance d'Andersson vis à vis de la maison mère, la structure, qui avait été rachetée par Toyota en 1993, est rebaptisée Toyota Motorsport. Après une année de préparation, le Team effectue ses débuts dans le championnat du monde en 2002 mais à l'issue de deux années décevante en termes de résultats, Ove Andersson est écarté de la tête de l'écurie et confiné à un rôle de "consultant". Ses derniers mois au sein de l'écurie sont en outre obscurcis par une affaire d'espionnage, plusieurs dirigeants de Toyota F1 (dont lui) étant mis en cause pour avoir utilisé en 2003 des données confidentielles appartenant à la Scuderia Ferrari tout en ayant connaissance de leur provenance frauduleuse 2. Les poursuites à son encontre seront finalement abandonnées fin 2007. En 2007, il quitte définitivement Cologne pour s'installer en Afrique du Sud. C'est près de chez lui, au volant de la Volvo 444 qu'il pilotait à l'occasion du Continental Milligan Vintage Trial (un rallye historique réservé aux voitures antérieures aux années 1960) qu'il trouve la mort le 11 juin 2008 après avoir été percuté de face par un camion. However, with COVID-19 now in almost all parts of the world, we have to approach sports very differently where we expect athletes, spectators, organisers and support crew working close to each other. The 2021 Safari Rally WRC is no different. Thankfully, the FIA has released clear and concise guidelines on how to do this in Appendix S of the International Sporting Code, COVID-19 Code of Conduct. No one is immune from these rules and certain groups, such as Media, are expected to be ambassadors in pushing through the message to the competitors and public. You will see and experience new measures in place that you may not be used to such as the creation of the High-Density Area (HDA) where only those essential to the safe running for the event are allowed, mandatory PCR and antigen tests for entry into the HDA, lack of mingling of at the event even between groups at HDA. There will be limited access for all personnel in this area including for Media and once in HDA, one will not be allowed to freely come in and out at will. In fact, there is even guidelines on how to behave at your hotel every evening and who with. We need everyone on board making this event a success and bringing back the glory of the Safari Rally.

  • Esteban Ocon and Alpine A110s Take on 2021 Rallye
    ESTEBAN OCON AND ALPINE A110S TAKE ON 2021 RALLYE MONTE-CARLO Alpine F1 Team Driver Esteban Ocon will demo the Alpine A110S sports car on Thursday 21 January with a series of special stage runs during this week’s 2021 Rallye Monte-Carlo. It is the first time that Esteban gets to grips with the A110S as an official Alpine F1 Team Driver and his first attempt taking part in a rally event. Esteban will pass through two stages on the opening day of the 89th Rallye Monte-Carlo as the official VIP course car, starting with a private test run to fully understand the A110S in the unique conditions of the rally. The rally then begins with the official departure at 13:10 on Thursday in Gap, Provence- Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Esteban will tackle SS1, a 20.58km route from Saint-Disdier to Corps and SS2 between Saint-Maurice and Saint-Bonnet 70 minutes before the official crop of World Rally Championship drivers including compatriots Sébastien Ogier, the reigning world champion, and Pierre-Louis Loubet, who trains with Esteban during the winter off-season. The Frenchman will have his race number, #31, emblazoned on the A110S, which will feature its traditional and iconic blue livery. Alpine has a five strong entry in the RGT class during this week’s Rallye Monte-Carlo with Cédric Robert, Emmanuel Guigou, Philippe Baffoun, Pierre Ragues and Raphaël Astier all piloting Alpine A110 Rally cars across the four days.
