Location: Lib Dems Headquarters, Westminster, SW1P

About this role The Liberal Democrats Business & Entrepreneurs Network (www.ldben.org.uk) was launched in 2015 to build support for the Party with leading business people and entrepreneurs. Under the leadership of founder Andrew Dixon and chair Tilly McAuliffe, LDBEN has 135 members who lend their expertise, networks and financial support to the Liberal Democrats. LDBEN works closely with Interim Party Leader Sir Ed Davey MP, Business Spokesperson MP, and other Lib Dem parliamentarians to develop and strengthen the Party’s business policies and profile. The Executive is also responsible for supporting the Business Taskforce of the Interim Party Leader, chaired by Juergen Maier.

Throughout the year, LDBEN holds events, policy roundtables and private briefings with parliamentarians, business leaders, journalists and experts, including a Business Day in London in the runup to the Lib Dem Autumn Conference. LDBEN members include entrepreneurs, investors, founders and business leaders across many sectors, and we are

aiming to diversify our membership and expand LDBEN to Scotland and Manchester in the coming year. The Network has published a number of policy papers on topics such as land value tax, responsible capitalism and the impact of .

You will be joining an experienced fundraising team that is focused on mobilising support from major donors and business leaders who share the Party’s liberal, progressive, internationalist values. The Liberal Democrats value business because we understand that without successful businesses we have no wealth-creation, innovation, creativity, tax revenues, skills or international standing. With the massive economic shock that is anticipated from the coronavirus shutdown, our Party will be a strong voice for pragmatic policies that will support businesses, entrepreneurs and the self-employed and ensure a sustainable economic recovery.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose of job To manage all LDBEN activities including events, communications, fundraising, membership recruitment and retention, and policy development

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the Party’s fundraising and networking efforts in the business community. 2. Identify and engage prospects across different areas of business to join LDBEN. 3. Grow the engagement of current LDBEN members in our programme of activities. 4. Raise funds from LDBEN members, including annual membership dues as well as larger gifts to support individual projects and campaigns. 5. Develop and deliver the programme of events, communications and policy initiatives for LDBEN. 6. Work closely with the founder, chair and LDBEN executive committee to deliver key objectives around membership, profile-raising activities, fundraising, policy development and diversity. 7. Liaise with Parliamentarians, HQ staff and other key Party stakeholders to create opportunities for LDBEN members to contribute their expertise and practical resources to the Party. 8. Draft member communications, event briefings and other writing as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

We are looking for a highly organised, motivated, and entrepreneurial Executive with strong fundraising skills, business acumen and experience, and an interest in politics.

Essential Skills and Experience

1. 3-5 years of experience in business, sales & marketing, fundraising or similar field; 2. Confident communicator who can engage effectively with senior business leaders on politics, business and supporting the Liberal Democrats;

3. Excellent organisational, writing and planning skills, with equal ability to work independently or within a team; 4. Strong understanding of how UK businesses engage politically and their key concerns around Government policy; 5. Ability to work collaboratively with donors and board members to deliver shared objectives; 6. Flexibility to work some evenings throughout the year and to travel outside of London for our party conferences; 7. Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.

Desirable Skills and Experience

1. Design and technical skills (ability to update a website and design e-newsletters). 2. Experience with the donor database Raiser’s Edge.
