Fraserburgh FC Official Matchday Programme

Today we welcome the players, management, officials and supporters of Clachnacuddin FC to Bellslea Park for our Press & Journal Highland League match.

A warm welcome also to Clach Chairman and Highland League President Dennis Bridgeford. Dennis hasn’t had his problems to seek in his reign so far and I know how lonely a place it can be sometimes but Dennis comes of good stock and as a Strichen loon was educated in the Broch Academy. If that doesn’t get him through his reign, then nothing will!! It is important that clubs make an effort to get their pitches Our last match here against Turriff United was a bit of a let- in good order so that as many games get played as possible. down in the fact we lost out on penalties after pretty much It isn’t cheap and we have spent on average around £10k on dominating the game but fair play to Turriff as they had a game the pitch each season for a number of years. Most clubs in plan and it worked perfectly. We wish them well for the the league are the same but sadly there are some who don’t remainder of the tournament. There were some things said at and that needs to change if we are to get our seasons the end of the game which I was less than impressed with but if finished in good time every year. people want to behave like that then so be it. I have moaned about this before and people have a right to celebrate as if they Last week we had a disappointing draw up at Huntly couldn’t then what is the point in being involved. There are although it could have been worse had Joe Barbour not plenty bad days so it is right that you enjoy the good days but saved the penalty in injury time. Huntly have vastly there is a line you shouldn’t cross and you have to respect the improved from the time they played here earlier in the o pposition. Everyone is different I suppose. season but I am sure a lot of that goes down to Dougie Baxter. He manages his team like he played and despite not Those of you who were at the game wouldn’t have failed to spot being the most popular player amongst the Broch fans we the sand pit in the middle of the pitch and I am pretty sure it would have all loved to see him in Black & White stripes. will be still visible today (fingers crossed it isn’t raining!!). This is a problem area which has got worse this season but Hughie As for today, Clach come here equally disappointed at our groundsman has it under control and is already planning getting knocked out of the cup in the last round and by all remedial work for the close season. I have no knowledge of accounts should have got something from the game against greenkeeping and the fact I dug out all the grass around my Nairn. They have had a mixed season with some good results house and replaced it with slabs and chuckies tells you it isn’t followed by some bad ones but they have had a few guys something I am keen to learn. Having said that however it is out. As always though, we will have to play well to ensure interesting to listen to Hughie and he tells me that this area is the three points remain at Bellslea. suffering from rotten soil and a disease of some sort but he has a cure. It's always tough to accept going out of a cup competition on penalties but how frustrating was the defeat against

Turriff United given the amount of chances you created especially during the 90 minutes?

Losing any games is difficult to take but even more so when it comes to cup matches. The game against Turriff was simply one of those games. We dominated the game from start to finish and created some really good chances which on another day we would have taken. Turriff only had one shot on goal the whole game and it went wide of the target. They set their stall out very early and it was clear that they wanted it to go to penalties as even when it was 11 v 11 they were slowing the game down and trying to frustrate us. In my opinion we didn't quite do enough to win the game as when they went down to 10 men, they sat in and invited us on to them but we didn't move quick enough to try and pull their players out of position so that I was disappointed in. Give Turriff credit as I I can confirm that we got Jamie Beagrie on a pre contract think they defended really well and when you have a agreement on Tuesday night, so he will join us when his goalkeeper of the standard of Kevin Main then you always contract with Turriff finishes. He quite simply is one of the have a chance. I do not want to be too hard on my team best attacking midfielders in the league today. It seems like because we dominated a team who are sitting fourth for he has been around for a while but he is still young and has almost the complete game and had we had a bit more luck many years ahead of him. When I took over as manager I then it would be us playing in the cup today and not Turriff, highlighted 4 players whom I would like to sign, so we could but hey that's football. We have won one cup already and are be up there challenging more often. Dean was one and now in another final so the boys are still having a relatively good Jamie has committed himself to us, that's two. He is strong in season. every area. Good passer, strong, athletic, scores goals, an all round, almost complete midfielder. He has already won the Last week against Huntly it seemed like the guys couldn't league on more than one occasion so he knows what it takes. get going as they normally do in terms of passing, The players we have will look up to him and see what he does movement and creating chances. How did you see the game and how he conducts himself and hopefully his winning and how big a loss was Ryan Christie having to go off early mentality will rub off on some of them and make them more with an injury? eager to win trophies. A signing in the stature of Jamie Last weekend was by far the poorest we have played this Beagrie shows the ambition I have as well as that of the club. season, yet we still came away with a draw. I do not know if We have been labelled a cup tam by most and rightly so as we the 120 minutes against Turriff the previous week got to the are successful in a lot of cup competitions, but it is the league guys or not but there didn't seem to be any tempo to our play which we are all after and bringing Jamie on board will take or any urgency. It was simply an off day where everyone us a step closer to competing. decided to struggle in the game. Even Bryan Hay who in my mind has been the best centre half in the league this season, Today sees the visit of Clachnacuddin in a re-arranged had one to forget. He has been outstanding this year but then fixture. The reverse fixture this season saw a battling makes a costly mistake for their first goal and puts us on the performance by the Broch capped with Ryan Cowie's late back foot. We changed things around and introduced Graham winner. What type of a game are you expecting today? and Aidan who seemed to inject something in to our play. I expect the game to be very similar. Clach had a Graham did very well in creating our first goal and then Aidan disappointing result on Wednesday night in the cup so they got another which took him to 3 goals in 3 games. He deserves will be looking to make amends. They will come down here his chance so we may see him becoming more regular hurting that they are out of the cup and I am sure Ian will be between now and the end of the season. Ryan took a knock looking for a reaction. If we play like we did last week then early on and didn't manage to run it off. When he goes down we will lose. Simple as that, however I do not think I will see injured you know something is not right as he would normally that performance from them again. A few harsh words were play through the pain barrier, but on this occasion we needed spoken after the game so the players know what I expect. to change it. Early changes do not help things as our whole Ability is not an issue with our guys as they are all talented preparation was for the team which started. To then have to players for this league. We just need to change their mindset go and change 5 minutes in upsets the rhythm. That said we and add a bit more desire into them and see where that takes put Stuart Taylor in there who I feel did well. Not our best us. We need to start getting better at the mentality side of performance but at least it was another point and keeps us in the game and start going into every match as if it is a cup the mix. We have ambitions of finishing in the top 6 and we final. Football does not last forever and I have tried telling will do our very best to achieve this. the guys that. If they share my ambition of winning the league

Breedon Aggregates Scottish Highland Football League Cup Quarter Final, Saturday 27th February 2016, Fraserburgh v Turriff United, Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh

The Broch should have taken the lead as early as four minutes when Graham Johnston’s free kick was floated to the back post from 30 yards out to Willie West who headed back across the six yard box but Paul Campbell couldn’t get a touch to knock the ball into the net. Three minutes later a Turriff free kick was met by Artjoms Kuznecovs but Joe Barbour was on hand to save easily. On 10 minutes Leszek Nowosielski had a chance from outside the box but he blazed well over the bar.

It was almost lucky 13th minute for the Broch when West headed the ball into the Turriff box and the ball was deflected out to Ryan Cowie who saw his effort blocked by Kevin Main, the rebound fell to Johnston on the edge of the box and he set up Dean Cowie only for him to see his effort saved by Main. The Broch striker tried his luck from a free kick after Paul Young had fouled Campbell but his effort went just past the right hand upright. On 28 minutes Marc Dickson’s run and cross form the right was met by a glancing header from West but once again Main saved. Four minutes later Dean Cowie won the ball back in midfield and played it through to Campbell who turned his marker and forced a save from Main but no one in a Broch shirt was on hand to follow up the rebound. Just before the break another cross into the Turriff box was only half cleared to the edge of the box where Dean Cowie met it but he couldn’t direct his shot on target.

Half Time: Fraserburgh 0-0 Turriff United

Turriff were first to threaten when Robbie Allan cut inside from the left wing and fired a shot just wide of Barbour’s goal. On 53 minutes Johnston swung in a dangerous free kick which was deflected wide for a corner. The visitors were reduced to 10 men on 65 minutes after a crunching tackle by James Chalmers on Ryan Christie was deemed to be over the top by referee Graham Beaton who had no hesitation in showing the player a red card.

Seven minutes later corner by Johnston to the near post was met by Christie but Main saved again and the rebound was cleared. On 81 minutes another ball into the Turriff box this time by Dickson was met by Christie but he couldn’t keep his effort on target. Three minutes from time a free kick by Dean Cowie was headed on by West but Main was out bravely to clear the ball. Breedon Aggregates Scottish Highland Football League Cup Semi-Finals

Brora Rangers v Cove Rangers The top two in the Highland League table meet at Dudgeon Park in what’s sure to be a cracking cup-tie. Brora edged out Formartine on penalties in a thrilling quarter-final last weekend, while Cove saw off Forres after extra time in their quarter-final. Brora are at full strength for this one, with Joe Malin having recovered from the knee injury which forced him off in extra time at Formartine. Cove travel north without Daryl Nicol, who is suspended, and the unavailable Daniel Park. Nairn County v Turriff United Paul Macleod and Gregg Main are ruled out for Nairn, while Michael Morrison is also unavailable. Callum Maclean picked up a head knock during the midweek win over at Clach and is doubtful, while Wayne Mackintosh, Tony Wallace and Martin MacDonald remain out. Work commitments could also rule out Bradley Halsman, John Cameron, Ross Naismith and Adam Naismith. Turriff also have several player missing, including Darren Mackie, Stuart Cumming, Gary McGowan, Nick Gray, David Booth, James Chalmers, Leszek Nowosielski and Chris Stuart. Paul Young and Artjoms Kuznecovs are also very doubtful, while Chris Herd and Kevin Main face late fitness tests. Press & Journal Scottish Highland Football League Fraserburgh v Clachnacuddin Fraserburgh boss Mark Cowie has a full squad to choose from for the visit of Clach to Bellslea. Struan-Scott Woodhouse is the only absentee for Clach, as Ricky Wardrop and Blair Lawrie return to the squad. Huntly v Buckie Thistle Huntly now face Buckie at Christie Park after their scheduled trip to Fort William was postponed this afternoon. Alex Thoirs, Matthew McDonald and Murray McCulloch all miss out for the home side, who recorded a much-needed win over Lossie in midweek. Goalkeeper Ross Salmon is out with an ankle injury for the Jags, while Kai Ross and Donnie Munro are both out with knee problems. Keith v Formartine United Keith take on title-chasing Formartine at Kynoch Park and have a doubt over Donald Fraser after he picked up a knock on Wednesday night. A win for the visitors would see them close the gap at the top of the table, with Brora and Cove facing each other in the cup. They are likely to remain without the injured Craig McKeown and Neil McVitie. Rothes v Forres Mechanics Rothes have Craig McMillan and David Lawrence both out with ankle injuries. Goalkeepers Matthew Mackie and Jack Faren are also out injured, but Gary Ewan returns from suspension. Ricky Henderson is doubtful and will face a late fitness test. Forres have Ross MacPherson suspended and Simon Allan is doubtful with a throat infection. The Can- Cans have several games in hand of the teams above them and will be looking for three points to start climbing the league table. Strathspey Thistle v Deveronvale Strathspey have a full squad available for the visit of Deveronvale to Seafield Park, as they look to end a long winless run. Vale have midfielders Craig Cowie and Kevin Souter back in their squad, but they remain without Graeme Watt, Kevin Adams, Gary Harris and Liam Archibald. Wick Academy v Inverurie Loco Works A pitch inspection will take place at Harmsworth Park at 7:30am tomorrow morning. Wick have Michael Steven out through suspension and Grant Steven and Alan Farquhar are unavailable. One or two others will also face late fitness tests before the game.
