Alison Armstrong Re-Envisaging Erikson: Deconstructing Adoption Through the Case of Claire ABSTRACT This theoretical study explored the social construction of adoption present within North American discourse and how this has impacted subsequent theoretical understandings of adoptee development. This was done with a particular emphasis on Eriksonian theories of adoptee development. This study utilized a cultural artifact, namely the character of Claire in Tim Kring’s (2006) television show, Heroes. Claire’s case is then used to compare current uses of Eriksonian theories of psychosocial ego development with possible, more comprehensive iterations of Erikson’s theory. The impact and relevance to social work theory, research and practice are discussed. CSA Interview MASTER
Amin Bhatia & Ari Posner – Canadian Screen Award Nominees Best Original Music for a Series – X-Company: Black Flag SCGC member Janal Bechthold catches up with the Canadian Screen Award nominees Amin Bhatia and Ari Posner to give you a little look into their process of scoring for the TV series, X-Company. This is their second nomination, having received a Best Original Score nomination for the series in 2016. X-Company is an “emotionally-driven character drama, set in the thrilling and dangerous world of WWII espionage and covert operations. It follows the stories of five highly skilled young recruits.” ~CBC.ca SCGC: How is the premise of X-Company meaningful to you? AB & AP: As a Canadian, to learn about how Camp X in Whitby Ontario and our intelligence forces helped to defeat the Nazi regime was very inspiring. It needs to be said that especially this year we've become acutely aware of world events in the US and how this story is an uncomfortable foreshadowing of what could repeat itself if we do not pay attention. SCGC: What was the biggest challenge you faced during this project? AB & AP: For this particular episode ,"Black Flag", our heroes had to assassinate a high-ranking German general during a night at the Opera. So it created many musical challenges, ranging from ritzy jazz themes and remixes, operatic rearrangements of Gabriel Fauré, ambient terror, orchestral action, and pure tragedy with a Nazi reprisal attack on innocent citizens. Thanks to the co-ordination of the cast and crew we actually wrote the source music months before to be used as playback on set as well as helping the picture editors set the pace and feel of the show. -

CANADIAN PRIVATE COPYING COLLECTIVE SOCIÉTÉ CANADIENNE DE PERCEPTION DE LA COPIE PRIVÉE 150 Eglinton Ave. East, Suite 403 Toronto, Ontario M4P 1E8 416 486 6832 1 800 892 7235 416 486 3064 [FAX] www.cpcc.ca CPCC CPCC C-32 Submission Background The Canadian Private Copying Collective (CPCC) is the non-profit organization responsible for collecting private copying royalties and distributing them to songwriters, performers, music publishers and record companies, as well as promoting the interests of rights holders as they pertain to private copying. For over a decade, the CPCC has represented copyright holders before the Copyright Board of Canada. The Board establishes the levies that may be collected after trial-like hearings where experts, representing music rights holders and organizations that represent consumers and businesses that sell leviable blank media, present evidence and are cross-examined. The private copying levy has been an important part of the Canadian copyright regime since 1999, when the first private copying tariff was certified by the Copyright Board, following amendments made to the Copyright Act (the “Act”) in 1997 to allow for a levy to be placed on blank audio recording media. Currently, the levy only applies to blank CDs and MiniDiscs, at a rate of 29 cents per unit, and is paid by manufacturers and importers of these blank media to the CPCC for distribution to rights holders. The private copying levy has provided an effective mechanism whereby consumers are allowed to make copies of music for their personal use without infringing copyright and, in exchange, music creators receive royalties that recognize the value of private copies of their work. -
