Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Catechetical Corner What is Catholic Social Teaching Catholic social teaching is a central and essential element of our faith. Its roots are in the Hebrew prophets who announced God’s special love for the poor and called God’s people to a covenant of love and justice. It is a teaching founded on the life and words of Jesus Christ, who came “to bring glad tid- ings to the poor . . . liberty to captives . . . recovery of sight to the blind” (Lk 4:18-19), and who identified himself with “the least of these,” the hungry and the stranger (cf. Mt 25:45). Catholic social teaching is built on a commitment to the poor. This commitment arises from our experiences of Christ in the eucha- rist. “Catholic social teaching is a central and essen- tial element of our faith.” Prayer Before an Election As the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, Lord God, “To receive in truth the Body and Blood of Christ giv- en up for us, we must recognize Christ in the poor- as the election approaches, we seek to better under- est, his brethren” (no. 1397). stand the issues and concerns that confront our city/ state/country, and how the Gospel compels us to re- Catholic social teaching emerges from the truth of spond as faithful citizens in our community. what God has revealed to us about himself. Why a Farmer’s Market? St Elizabeth Ann Seton will be joining Three Square Food Bank to provide more food to more people in our community. Some programs are created specifically for people in need, who cannot afford to purchase food. Many items are staples for households, some dairy and some meats. Our Food Pantry Program falls into this category.

Other programs are based upon serving and uniting the community. Most of this food needs to be distributed quickly. The main items given out are seasonal fruits and vegetables at NO CHARGE. These are Farmer’s Markets where anyone and everyone in the neighborhood and community are invited to take home a bag of fresh produce.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish invites you to our first ever FARMER’S MARKET on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 8:30am-9:30am under the canopies in the parking lot. Fresh fruits and vegetables will be availa- ble to all parishioners and people in our community at NO CHARGE. Please stop by and grab a bag of sea- sonal goodies!

Any questions or to volunteer to help contact Patti McGuire @ [email protected] or 702-804-8311.
