Lately, I have been aware of a feeling of joy within my heart. ! ! There is a link between the emotion of joy and the virtue of gratitude. ! ! Br. Stendl Rast, author of a Paulist Press bestseller, “Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer” wrote, “The root of joy is gratefulness…It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.” ! ! It was not until I remembered Stendl Rast’s quote, that I understood the source of my joy. ! ! Since arriving on July 2, I have not had to work at gratitude as it seems to be in the air I breathe inside and outside our worship space. I am so very grateful for Javier Castro and his small team of workers who assisted me greatly in unloading the U Haul vehicle upon the very first moment of my arrival. Our hospitable reception personnel at the parish center were terrific in making me feel at home. ! ! I am thankful for the warm reception I received from my brother Paulists and our staff at both the Paulist residence and the parish. Frs. Joe Ciccone and James DiLuzio have been helping me adjust to life in a large house. I am especially grateful to Fr. Matt Kathy Z., and Valerie for their ability to “keep calm and carry on” during the transitions of the past year. ! I remain grateful to Paulists Frank Desiderio and Eric Andrews who wore the Administrator’s hat for about 5 months and one month respectively and oversaw some important liturgies and events at St. Paul the Apostle. I came for a visit during Holy Week (I was checking you out) and I was so grateful for the efforts of everyone who made the Triduum both solemn and joyful; especially for Joe Cooper’s co ordination of the liturgical ministers, the musicians, and all those who make the liturgy and the beauty of our space shine. The efforts of the Ministry Teams and their leaders really showed themselves over the period of transition. ! ! Whether you’ve been a parishioner for a while or you’re new like me, allow me to share the main reason why I was and still remain grateful for the parish of St. Paul the Apostle. ! ! It’s you, the members of Christ’s Body who participate in the life of the parish and who continue to share your valuable time and resources, even during the summer season! This is what the Eucharist means at its heart. It is the prayerful expression of a community of believers’ gratitude for the gift of God’s very Self. And that gratitude makes us joyful. ! ! I am so thankful for the welcome I have received. You are the source of my gratitude and therefore the source of my joy. ! Fr. Rick Walsh, CSP ! ! 2! JULY 14, 2019 ! St. Paul’s Announcements !

! ! ! ! ! Fr. Rick Walsh, CSP !
