Διπλωματική Εργασία vi «Μαρία Λουμπάκη, Φεστιβάλ κόμικς στην Ελλάδα: Η περίπτωση του Comicdom Con Athens» «Comics festivals in Greece: The Case of Comicdom Con Athens» Maria Loumpaki Abstract Festivals are multi-faceted cultural activities with specific characteristics, which differentiate them from other cultural activities, as they take place in a certain space and time and require different organization and management. They stand out for their originality and authenticity and play a key role in the development of local communities. This dissertation explores the influence of the Greek Comics Festivals on cultural, social and economic level. It focuses on how they are organized and managed, as well as on their contribution to public entertainment, the spread of the Ninth Art, the emergence of new Greek artists and the development of the domestic industry of comic books. For a holistic approach of Greek events, data analysis and a case study (the Greek festival "Comicdom Con Athens) were chosen as the preferred research method. The first part of the dissertation is the theoretical framework, on which the case study is based, and it contains an analysis of the basic concepts governing the administration and management of cultural activities, as well as a brief historical review of the most important Comics Festivals in U.S.A and in Europe. "Comicdom Con Athens" is introduced in the second part, which includes a historical review, an analysis of the festival's organization and management, and a survey that examines the opinions, the characteristics and preferences of the festival’s audience. The dissertation, as far as the methodology is concerned, is based on the collection of primary and secondary data. The primary ones come from the processing of questionnaires and interviews of important figures involved in the domestic comic scene, while the secondary data are based on the bibliographic review and presentation of various statistics of the international and Greek Comics festivals.
