Red Sea has established itself in the public aquarium industry by providing a high quality salt, available in customized mixes, based on naturally evaporated elements. Red Sea Salt has 86% of its components harvested by solar evaporation. The (NaCl) comes from the crystal clear of the Red Sea, and contains a natural complement of minor and trace elements in naturally ocurring ratios. It is this natural trace element mix which helps to sustain the ionic balance of without the danger of the accumulation of toxic metals and in addition stimulate a natural and healthy population of marine Micro-fauna which in turn are instrumental in assisting with issues related to the quality and accumulation of nitrate, phosphate and organic waste. Our marine chemists, biologists and experienced curators work to develop specific salt formulas customized to meet each aquarium`s specific needs. Our low bromine mix is suitable for elasmobranch systems and any aquariums with intensive ozonisation. The Source of Red Sea Salts

From the clear, unpolluted waters from the living reef of the Red Sea, seawater is pumped through a series of shallow ponds and goes through a natural evaporation process in the hot dry sun. In the first pond the Red Sea water is evaporated from its natural of 40ppt to a salinity of approx 250ppt, precipitating out all of the heavy metals from the water. In subsequent ponds, as more water evaporates, crystals begin to form leaving other ions such as and in concentrated . At the end of the evaporation process the remaining brine is drained away leaving behind crystals of raw sodium chloride that undergo a proprietary process of washing and drying to remove organic and other impurities. The end result is pure, white, -grade crystals of Sodium Chloride that also include 45 of the other elements that are naturally present in the waters of the Red Sea. This element enriched sodium chloride is the basis for all of Red Sea’s salt mixes providing part of the “living reef” inside every grain of harvested salt.

This sodium chloride with its natural array of minor and trace elements, that is free from excessive levels of heavy metals or organics, comprises over 72% of Red Sea’s salts and therefore by definition provides a quality and homogeneity of finished product that is unachievable artificially.

The next stage in the process is to add back to the sodium chloride, the , magnesium, potassium and any other elements lost during evaporation resulting in a consistent, homogenous mix. This is achieved by working in small batches with strict quality control. The absence of excessive levels of heavy metals in our materials obviates the need for chemical binders as found in many artifical salts, and which significantly affect the function of protein skimmers, and can be detrimental to fish health.

Red Sea Salt is designed to provide the exact parameters of tropical reef water with a slightly elevated KH (alkalinity) as needed in closed marine systems. Red Sea salt is ideal for fish, elasmobranch, invertebrate and low- coral systems.
