NA FALI HISTORII Szanowni Państwo, Drodzy Czytelnicy, z przyjemnością i poczuciem wywiązania się z powierzonego mi zadania oddaję w Państwa ręce 80. tom „Rocznika Gdańskiego”. Praca nad jego przygotowaniem była wyjątkowym i twórczym doświadczeniem, ale jednocześnie czasem pełnym wyzwań i zmagań z przeciwnościami, jakie narzuciła nam wszystkim pande- miczna rzeczywistość. Hasłem niniejszego tomu uczyniłam zwrot „na fali historii”, który rozumieć można na kilka sposobów. Gdańsk i Pomorze zajmowały i nadal zajmują w historii naszego kraju miejsce szczególne. Bycie „na fali historii” nigdy jednak nie oznaczało dla Pomo- rza płynięcia z prądem wydarzeń, a aktywne w nich uczestnictwo, przewodnictwo i kreowanie przyszłości. To także wykorzystanie odpowiedniej chwili, sprzyjającego czasu i pomyślnych okoliczności dla próby przeforsowania własnych rozwiązań, rea- lizacji wypracowanych wcześniej postulatów czy przedstawienia poglądów. Pamiętać jednak należy, że bycie „na fali historii” to także naznaczenie przez historię, czasem okrutne przećwiczenie, wypełnione krwią, cierpieniem i bólem przeżycie. Historyczna fala nie raz zalewała mieszkańców Pomorza, a wydobycie się z jej odmętów, brak zgody na bierne zagarnięcie przez nurt tożsame było z przetrwaniem. Słowa zapisane w preambule Karty Powinności Człowieka1 o Gdańsku jako mieście szczególnym, doświadczonym przez historię, w którym zaczynały się kataklizmy i kończyły totalitary- zmy, potraktować można nieco szerzej – jako odnoszące się do dziejów całego regionu. Współuczestnictwo w istotnych, kluczowych wydarzeniach, czasem bolesne i trudne, które z perspektywy czasu ocenić można jako swego rodzaju punkty zwrotne historii regionu, budowało obraz i tożsamość Pomorza i jego mieszkańców. Jest to widoczne we wszystkich tekstach, które złożyły się na ten tom „Rocznika Gdańskiego”. Tom otwiera artykuł Bogusława Ulickiego Gaszenie pożarów dawnego Gdańska na przykładzie porządków ogniowych XVI w., w którym autor analizuje XVI­­­‑wieczne przepisy dotyczące tego, jak radzić sobie z żywiołem. Porządek ogniowy z 1539 r., w świetle badań B. Ulickiego, był zbiorem nowoczesnych przepisów, których oddzia- ływanie autor zauważa w obowiązujących dzisiaj regulacjach.     The Sinking of the Unsinkable Titanic: Mental Inertia and Coordination Failures Fu-Lai Tony Yu Department of Economics and Finance Hong Kong Shue Yan University Abstract This study investigates the sinking of the Titanic from the theory of human agency derived from Austrian economics, interpretation sociology and organizational theories. Unlike most arguments in organizational and management sciences, this study offers a subjectivist perspective of mental inertia to understand the Titanic disaster. Specifically, this study will argue that the fall of the Titanic was mainly due to a series of coordination and judgment failures that occurred simultaneously. Such systematic failures were manifested in the misinterpretations of the incoming events, as a result of mental inertia, by all parties concerned in the fatal accident, including lookouts, telegram officers, the Captain, lifeboat crewmen, architects, engineers, senior management people and owners of the ship. This study concludes that no matter how successful the past is, we should not take experience for granted entirely. Given the uncertain future, high alertness to potential dangers and crises will allow us to avoid iceberg mines in the sea and arrived onshore safely. Keywords: The R.M.S.     Ports as tools of european expansion The Role of Transatlantic Shipping Companies in Euro-American Relations Antoine RESCHE ABSTRACT Between the arrival of transatlantic steamships in the 1830s and the popularization of air transport in the 1950s, shipping companies provided the only means of crossing the Atlantic, for both people as well as goods and mail. Often linked to governments by agreements, notably postal ones, they also had the important mission of representing national prestige, particularly in the United Kingdom, but also in France, Germany, and the United States. Their study thus makes it possible to determine what the promising migratory flows were during different periods, and how they were shared between the different companies. Ownership of these companies also became an issue that transcended borders, as in the case of the trust belonging to the financier John Pierpont Morgan, the International Mercantile Marine Company, which included British and American companies. A major concern from the viewpoint of states, their most prestigious ships became veritable ambassadors tasked with exporting the know-how and culture of their part of the world. It began with narrowing down my wide field of interests to the Norwegian resistance movement. This was done through several discussions with professors at the historical institute of NTNU. Via further discussions with Frode Færøy, associate professor at The Norwegian Home Front Museum, I got it narrowed down to reprisals, and the cases and questions this thesis tackles. Bei derartigem Vorgehen kann man keinesfalls zu runden Ergebnissen kom­ men, doch ist die Betrachtung des Problems aus verschiedenen Perspektiven die einzige Chance, um der Forderung nach Objektivität und Sachlichkeit der Auslegung gerecht zu werden. Nicht zu unterschätzen bei der kaschubi- schen Frage ist der Aspekt der Sprache. Nach Jerzy Samp zeigt sich die ethnische Identität der Kaschuben eben in der beharrlichen Bindung an ihre Sprache. Zusammen mit der Geschichte und Tradition macht sie ein wesen­ tliches Element der immateriellen Kultur dieser Region aus und verhilft zu ihrer gewissen Spezifik, die von den Publizisten oft als „regionales Kolorit” bezeichnet wird.1 Natürlich sind diese Elemente nicht als drei völlig getren­ nte Erscheinungen zu betrachten. Es wäre unmöglich, eine strenge Grenze zwischen ihnen zu ziehen, und so werden wir auch in diesem Artikel auf der geschichtlichen und kulturellen Ebene verweilen, um die spezifischen Zu­ sammenhänge darzustellen.
