Despite its somewhat austere appearance, this range of cutlery conveys an almost sensuous feeling of pure pleasure for the eye and also for the hands. The reason is that its chiselled fi nish allows us to experience the beauty of the silver, there is no unneces- sary ornamentation to distract our gaze away from the clarity of the lines. With its simplistic beauty and its taut silhouette, Alta makes us feel that this is the one and only shape that is justifi ed in providing the basic pattern for every contemporary style of cutlery today.

  • Specialists for Enjoyment Ten Testimonials Present the Enjoyment Region of Stuttgart
Press Release Specialists for Enjoyment Ten testimonials present the Enjoyment Region of Stuttgart The Stuttgart Region offers a huge range of culinary delicacies: from exquisite starred restaurants to down-to-earth traditional fare, sparkling wines and sweet delights. The ten specialists below, whose professions all have to do with creating enjoyment, are just some examples of the many different facets of the Enjoyment Region of Stuttgart. Starred chef Vincent Klink – a Michelin star has been shining over his "Wielandshöhe" restaurant without a break since 1991 – cultivates not only haute cuisine, but also the tradition of typical regional dishes. He places particular importance on the quality of the ingredients used, on organically-grown vegetables and species-appropriate animal husbandry. Klink likes to buy his favourite regional produce at Stuttgart's Art Nouveau Market Hall, which was built in 1914. The Swabian restaurateurs Ferdinand and Maximilian Trautwein pursue a style of cooking that is firmly rooted in traditional Swabian cuisine. At their "Gasthaus zur Linde" the food is presented in a modern look that delights the eye as well as the palate. One of their favourite ingredients is Filderkraut, a local variety of pointed cabbage that grows on the fields of the Filder plateau south of Stuttgart. The young wine grower Moritz Haidle is one of the most successful wine producers in the Stuttgart Region and one of Germany's 60 best young vintners. In 2014 he took over the Karl Haidle wine estate in Stetten from his father, where he now carries on the family tradition. To him, not only good wine, but also good food and good automobiles are an integral part of the Stuttgart Region.

  • PR MICHELIN Guide France 2019 EN
PRESS INFORMATION Boulogne-Billancourt, Monday 21 January The MICHELIN Guide France 2019: The reflection of a gastronomic France at its highest level Michelin is pleased to unveil the selection of the MICHELIN Guide France 2019. Including 632 starred establishments, the 2019 vintage has grown this year with 75 new establishments gaining either one, two or three stars: a record level never seen before. Commenting on the new selection, Gwendal POULLENNEC, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, said: “This year, more than any other, the MICHELIN Guide France is demonstrating a gastronomic France that excels on all fronts. From remarkable regional dynamism, to showcasing new talented youngsters, and to an unprecedented number of new star-studded restaurants led by women, the 2019 vintage shines brightly in many ways”. Nestled at the foot of the mountains that protect the city of Menton, Mirazur , brilliantly led by the chef Mauro COLAGRECO, gets three stars in the 2019 selection of the MICHELIN Guide. In front of the Mediterranean Sea which unfolds and stretches as far as the eye can see, the chef allows his customers to live a unique and enchanting gastronomic moment. Here, the dishes on offer invariably follow the cycle of the seasons and magnify with delicacy and subtlety the products of the sea and the mountains, as well as the fruit and vegetables cultivated in the kitchen garden of the chef. At Mirazur , the menu is always full of amazing surprises that play with textures and combine bold flavours with simple and colourful presentation. This year Le Clos des Sens also receives the highest distinction of the MICHELIN Guide.

  • Modelling Last Glacial Cycle Ice Dynamics in the Alps

Modelling last glacial cycle ice dynamics in the Alps Julien Seguinot1, Guillaume Jouvet1, Matthias Huss1, Martin Funk1, Susan Ivy-Ochs2, and Frank Preusser3 1Laboratory of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology, ETH Zürich, Switzerland 2Laboratory of Ion Beam Physics, ETH Zürich, Switzerland 3Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Freiburg, Germany Correspondence to: J. Seguinot ([email protected]) Abstract. The European Alps, cradle of pioneer glacial studies, are one of the regions where geological markers of past glaciations are most abundant and well-studied. Such conditions make the region ideal for testing numerical glacier models based on simplified ice flow physics against field-based reconstructions, and vice-versa. 5 Here, we use the Parallel Ice Sheet Model (PISM) to model the entire last glacial cycle (120–0 ka) in the Alps, using horizontal resolutions of 2 and 1 km and up to 576 processors. Climate forcing is derived using present-day climate data from WorldClim and the ERA-Interim reanalysis, and time-dependent temperature offsets from multiple palaeo-climate proxies, among which only the EPICA ice core record yields glaciation during marine oxygen isotope stages 4 (69–62 ka) and 2 (34– 18 ka) spatially and temporally consistent with the geological reconstructions, while the other records used result in excessive 10 early glacial cycle ice cover and a late Last Glacial Maximum. Despite the low variability of this Antarctic-based climate forcing, our simulation depicts a highly dynamic ice sheet, showing that Alpine glaciers may have advanced many times over the foreland during the last glacial cycle.

Documentation of forest and other woody land along trajectories of non-destructive rockfall V2 2018-04 Frank Perzl, Andreas Kofler, Elisabeth Lauss, Hanna Krismer, Monika Rössel, Christian Scheidl and Karl Kleemayr 1 Introduction In this guideline, an approach to consider forest structure and characteristics along a rockfall trajectory guideline is presented to determine key parameters, which help to evaluate the protective role of forests stands against rock-fall events. Therefore, this work should be seen as extension to “Guidelines for collecting data about past rockfall events” (ASP 462 – RockTheAlps; WP1 – Activity A. T1.2) proposed by Žabota & Kobal (2017). In this concept, the approach and the survey setup for a comprehensive rockfall hazard event documentation, focusing on woody vegetation, are illustrated. The main forest parameters are explained and in a “best practice example”, the general workflow and some exceptional cases are discussed. 2 General concept The spatial distribution of (woody) land cover units like forest stands with relative uniformity and the internal structure of woody vegetation of these units of homogeneity (U) is documented along rockfall trajectories (real rockfall paths) from the farthest block deposit (FBD) identifiable to the starting point of the rockfall hazard (the center of the scar – CS). Methods and work steps: 1) Preliminary orthophoto-mapping of the rockfall trajectory. 2) Preliminary segmentation of the rockfall trajectory into units of homogeneity (not stocked areas and stands of woody vegetation) by means of aerial image interpretation. 3) Preliminary determination of sample plot positions (plot centers) within the unity of homogeneity along the trajectory. 4) On-site inspection of the trajectory uphill: correction of the direction of the trajectory and of the U-borders, classification and description of U, log sampling along the segments, correction of sample point positions and plot sampling within Us.
