A musical sensation in the making! The Austrian World Music export, Global Kryner, the Alpine newcomer on the European scene with a globalized mountain sound, meet the greatest vocal trio in Central Europe: The Rounder Girls, from Vienna, London and New York. Along with their successful solo careers, Tini Kainrath (Dancing Stars, Willi Resetarits, The Hallucination Company, etc.), Lynne Kieran (soloist at the Wiener Festwochen, Burgtheater, Bayerische Staatsoper, Gloria Gaynor, etc.), and Kim Cooper (songwriter and international dance floor diva: Beat 4 Feet, Club 69, Junior Vasquez, Jamie Lewis, etc.), continuously excel with the soulful qualities of their three mutually harmonizing voices, a unique phenomenon since 1993. Sufficient reason for the five men of Global Kryner, accordionist Anton Sauprügl, guitarist Edi Köhldorfer, trumpeter Markus Pechmann, trombonist Martin Temmel and band founder and clarinettist Christof Spörk, to embark on this exciting experiment. Simultaneously, Global Kryner’s front woman thus far, Sabine Stieger, is working on her solo career as Samy Jones. Alpine-spiced gospel and soul of the best quality is to be expected. In return, the Rounder Girls will explore pop music classics from the Global Kryner repertoire in their own inimitably stylish way.     Da bahnt sich eine musikalische Sensation an. Der österreichische Weltmusikexport Global Kryner, die alpinen Newcomer der letzten fünf Jahre, treffen mit ihrem globalisierten Karawankensound auf das großartigste Vokaltrio, das Mitteleuropa zu bieten hat: The Rounder Girls aus Grinzing, London und New York mit Wohnsitz Wien. IASPM periodically carries out, since 1981 – year which was founded – regular meetings and the publication of the works contributing to the creation of a new academic field targeted to the study of this medium narrative modality of syncretic and multidimensional nature, which has been consolidated along the last 150 years as component element of the contemporary culture. We hope that this Conference will represent another step in the consolidation of this field which has already achieved worldwide coverage. For the Music Department of the Arts Institute of UNICAMP, to carry out the 18th Conference brings special importance as it created the first Graduation Course in Popular Music of Brazil, in 1989, making this University a reference institution in these studies. UNICAMP is located in the District of Barão Geraldo, in the city of Campinas – SP. This region showed great development at the end of XIX century and beginning of XX century due to the coffee farming expansion. Nowadays it presents itself as an industrial high-tech center. Its cultural life is intense, being music one of the most relevant activities.
