Heritage for everyone www.visitdolomites.com ITINERARY 3B – ROLLE PASS - BAITA SEGANTINI imagea.org © system in World Heritage Site Pale di San Martino, San Lucano, Dolomiti Bellunesi, Vette Feltrine mountain group(s) San Martino UNESCO values landscape: the landscape of the Rolle Pass is marked by the stark contrast between the western section, where the Lagorai porphyritic mountain chain with its powerful volcanic rocks ends, and the eastern side, home to the peaks of the Pale di San Martino with their clear sedimentary covering of dolomite rock. Here there are traces of the geological and geodynamic process which created the Pale di San Martino group. Baita Segantini stands on a large, undulating plain which gives a superb view of the most famous peaks in this enormous group: Cimon della Pala, Cima di Vezzana and Sass Maor. geology: on the north-western slopes, just beyond the Pale di San Martino (Veneggia, Valles Pass, Rolle Pass) there are outcrops of rock that tell of the arrival of the first Dolomite sea, starting from the Athesian volcanic events and the gradual erosion of the ancient Hercynian mountains. This imposing system that includes the Pale di San Martino, together with some parts of the Coldai, Pelsa, Agner and Pale di San Lucano peaks, contains traces of a large Ladinian island whose original geometries are still intact (island-deep sea; island-volcanic material). The major deposits of volcanic origin are mainly concentrated in the western areas, while to the east rocks have been found that bear witness to the emergence of the Ladinian island, its surfaces marked by erosion and paleokarst formations. In detail, the World Heritage Committee having examined Documents WHC-07/31. COM/8B and WHC-07/31.COM/INF.8B.2, defers the examination of the nomina- tion of The Dolomites, Italy, to the World Heritage List on the basis of criteria (vii) and (viii).     ITINERARY 3B ROLLE PASS - BAITA SEGANTINI imagea.org © description UNESCO Dolomites system Pale di San Martino, San Lucano, Dolomiti Bellunesi, Vette Feltrine mountain group(s) Pale di San Martino UNESCO values Landscape: the landscape of the Rolle Pass is marked by the stark contrast between the western section, where the Lagorai porphyritic mountain chain with its powerful volcanic rocks ends, and the eastern side, home to the peaks of the Pale di San Martino with their clear sedimentary covering of dolomite rock. Here there are traces of the geological and geodynamic process which created the Pale di San Martino group. Baita Segantini stands on a large, undulating plain which gives a superb view of the most famous peaks in this enormous group: Cimon della Pala, Cima di Vezzana and Sass Maor. Geology: on the north-western slopes, just beyond the Pale di San Martino (Veneggia, Valles Pass, Rolle Pass) there are outcrops of rock that tell of the arrival of the first Dolomite sea, starting from the Athesian volcanic events and the gradual erosion of the ancient Hercynian mountains. This imposing system that includes the Pale di San Martino, together with some parts of the Coldai, Pelsa, Agner and Pale di San Lucano peaks, contains traces of a large Ladinian island whose original geometries are still intact (island-deep sea; island-volcanic material). The major deposits of volcanic origin are mainly concentrated in the western areas, while to the east rocks have been found that bear witness to the emergence of the Ladinian island, its surfaces marked by erosion and paleokarst formations.
