China Passes Bill on

Animal Vaccination

China’s President, Mr. Jiang Zhemin , has signed Chairman’s Order No. 87, a bill on animal vaccination. The bill, passed during the meeting of

○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○ the Standing Committee of the Eighth National People’s Congress, was designed to implement better control on how animal vaccination and its related activities are carried out. The aim of the bill is to eradicate animal diseases, promote animal husbandry, and protect public health. The bill consists of several sections including: • prevention of animal epidemics • control and eradication of animal diseases • quarantine of animals and animal products • supervision of quarantine procedures Under the new ruling, all animals that have been quarantined and approved for use as food or food products must then be processed in accordance with regulations on proper inspection procedures and food hygiene. Also, any epidemic diseases detected by organizations and individuals, both suspected and confirmed, must be reported to the local animal quarantine offices. Indonesia’s Herbicide Policy Relaxed

The Indonesian Government has loosened its tight control over the use of herbicides. All kinds of herbicides will now be treated similarly, and should be used in accordance with the instructions provided by manufacturers. The Indonesian Minister of Agriculture mentioned that this move was necessary in order to increase food production.
