Dear Mr. Secretary-General, OFFICE OF THE SECKEiAFi ('-ill! ;c:RAL As follow-up to my letter of 20 March inviting you to the 30"' Anniversary Celebration of the United" Nations DeveTopfneh'fTund'fbr Women (UNIFEM), I would like to inform you that pjans for the^celebration on 13 May are moving forward. Ms. Nicole Kidman, UNIFEM's "recently appointed Goodwill Ambassador will host the Anniversary Celebration at the New York Hilton.

In commemorating this milestone, UNIFEM will recognize two outstanding individuals who contribute to the advancement of women from different spheres, and who set new directions. UNIFEM will inaugurate a Global Leadership Award, which we are proud to give toJHLE Jtfadam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia. We are also bestowing our first annual Global Champion Award to Mr. Terry J. Lundgren, Chairman, President and CEO of Federated Department Stores, for his partnership initiatives that realize women's economic security and rights, particularly through the Rwanda Path to Peace project.

We would be honoured ij^you, Mr. Secretary-General, and Mrs. Annan would consider lending your names as the Honorary Co-Chairs on the event invitation. If you are agreeable to "this request, we are also requesting a photograph and a brief statement from you and Mrs. Annan for the evening's printed commemorative programme on the occasion of UNIFEM's 30th anniversary.

Ms. Kidman is inviting a select number of individuals such as Sir Howard Stringer, SONY; Rupert Murdoch, News Corporation Ltd., and Francois-Henri Pinault, PPR/Gucci to be Co-Chairs and provide a high level of financial support for the event. She is also inviting a select group of individuals from the film, business, arts and fashion world to lend their names to the Host Committee listing.
